Oh yes. He really must keep checking on the adults. Da was not so bad, but the little one -who was still huuuuuuge to the audio pup- needed much reassuring. Tilting his head to the side before giving another nuzzle and scampering back to play Bradach wondered what could be bothering the black winged audio. The painting of him reading by the lake that was at home had him seen as much calmer and happier than this.
Well... Bradach would simply have to work at it, wouldn't he? To see that his Da's -and now his- friend was in that peaceful state again.
It did not seem to be of notice to Aiden that there was no response to his statement. Nor did he seem surprised when after a while Kaleb did return comment. Sometimes... there was nothing wrong with silence.
A good thing, he supposed, when his own son had yet to speak. Sometimes Aiden wondered if Bradach ever would, but he tried not to worry about it. Either the pup was mute, or should he need to he would find his voice. The concerned father put it down to everything being all right.
“Aye. Ye dinnae see 'im when he was born. Scarce bigger than my hands together long, ye ken.” Aiden smiled the smile of a proud and doting papa. “Bu' even if'n 'e grew as slow as th' human laddie t'would still be too fast. An' Audios grow much quicker than humans.”
There was a slightly extra softness tinged with sadness to those words though the Highlander remained happy overall. Blissfully happy really. It was only that he understood how fleeting youth was. Hence why he shared as much of it as he could with his pups.

Kaleb glanced over at Aiden a couple times while Bradach played, and noticed that he didn't seem particularly worried. At least not over the safety of the playground. With a nervous sigh the little healer tried to relax, and successfully resisted the urge to pick up the pup the next time he came in for a friendly nuzzle.
"I-I've never seen a pup that young before," Kaleb replied, glancing down at his own hands and trying to imagine it. "Except maybe... M-maybe that time I-I s-saw Morgana..." He blushed and stammered horribly at the memory. It was hard to forget, with the fainting and the scent of the dried peppers he could still imagine if he tried hard enough, but hadn't there been a pup there?
In an attempt to cover for his embarrassment over the long ago incident he channeled a bit of magic and tossed a light protection spell over the pup playing on the playground equipment. The little mage felt better almost immediately.

"T'is nae surprising. Wouldnae be surprised most pups kept safe 'til a wee bit bigger." Though he noticed the blush and stammering of his small companion Aiden made no show but a gentle smile for whatever had embarrassed him and made no comment. More interesting to him was how Kaleb had seemed inclined to pick up his son again. Aiden concluded that was a good thing. Young ones had a natural pacifying effect. When they were not running wild.
Although Aiden did not know what spell the mage had used he could see the magic of it and could hazard a pretty well educated guess based on his knowledge of Kaleb & his personality. A little smile lifted the corners of the smile already there even as the swirl of green over his eye twitched as his brow lifted in interest. How would his son react or even notice such a thing. The Highlander's golden eyes watched with interest.
At first, the pup hardly noticed the magic. He saw magic all the time and recognized it by sight. There was a certain appearance and taste around the mage -seeing it come out was really no surprise. The pup continued to play.
Until... he noticed the magic stayed with him. THAT was different.
Never had a spell more than a Wingardium Leviosa been cast of the angelic audio pup. Halfway up the ladder Bradach paused and looked around at the colors around him. A confused expression crinkled his face faintly. Still puzzled he continued his climb to the top but once there he did not slide down right away as he pretty much had been after getting the adults attention and smiling. No... this time he sat down on his rump and tried to look at himself. Tilting his head Bradach bit at the air around him where he could 'see' the spell there. It tasted... crisp. Clear. Magic-y of course. He nommed at it a little more -causing no effect to it, but simply 'tasting' the magic there. It was very pretty... Bradach turned his questioning gaze on the adults. Was he shining to them too? With a grin he gave a wiggle that should shift the magic around him to sparkle somehow. At least... so the pup hoped. Then he grinned happily, watching their reactions even as he slid down the slide.
It was good magic. It tasted good and Bradach was not afraid. It did not even taste funny and biting like the twins' prankster magic. This was nice magic. It reminded Bradach of curling up in his mother's arms. Safe.

Kaleb finally leaned back against the bench, able to relax now that he had assured no harm would come to the pup. Wasn't that why he had studied magic to begin with? To prevent and repair harm? Heaven forbid he ever had children of his own, he would spend most of his time wound up like a spring knowing the inevitable scrape of the knee or tearful acquisition of a bruise was natural for kids.
He smiled, a little distracted by watching Bradach while free from worrying over his safety. "H-he seems really calm, like you," Kaleb said quietly. Suddenly his brows furrowed a little. "Is he... trying to taste the spell?" He asked, to himself as much as to Aiden. "I've never seen anyone react like that to a shield spell." He knew it was possible to feel a shield settle, and those with a knack for it could sense spells being formed or even how they were put together, but would a pup have that magical sense?
The mage was curious, so he channeled a bit more energy and wove it out into several strands of different elements to 'decorate' the park area. He didn't form any spell with it, just 'handled' it a bit, wondering if the pup would notice it or the differences between the elements.

Aiden merely nodded. It was another reason he did not worry about his son's lack of speech, for somehow he was interchanging calm and silent in his head. Really even if Bradach were mute it was not as bad as an audio being deaf. Aiden knew he could hear, even beyond the obvious proof in that the pup had taken his headphones' color and wings. Sometimes though... he wished some sound would come from his son. Even a whimper.
Golden eyes glanced sideways at the mage with a boyish & sheepish slight grin. "Aye. He gets tha' from me a'well. Th' fae." With a wan, sheepish smile Aiden fluttered his small faerie wings. Were there no magic he would not be able to lift himself, let alone Lainey as he did before she acquired wings of her own. He glanced out, arching a brow at the shift of magic then looked back. "I cannae taste i' myself."
Meanwhile Bradach looked up from reaching the end of the slide amazed. His big smile of accomplishment shifted slightly to one of youthful wonder as the kaleidoscope of living energy and magic shifted.
At first he marveled, but then his head shot to the mage. HE was doing this. Bradach gave a big grin then lopped in frolicsome fashion to follow all parts of the change one after another. It was like chasing butterflies in a field of flowers. The pup lopped to and fro, snapping his jaws playfully upon the woven magics he could see to taste them. It was almost like he was playing with them, more then studying them but he was however a pup and so often the two melted together if one was unawares.
((ack... Aiden's part isn't as good as it was, but somehow I typed and send Bradach's part over Aiden's & lost the original. *cries* It was so perfect too. Now it's only a shadow 'cause I can barely keep awake. I wish I could remember better what Aiden said. If I do before you post I'll edit it in. *hugs*))

Kaleb couldn't help but laugh out loud at the pup's reaction to his testing, and he quickly covered his mouth with one hand to stifle it somewhat. He could only conclude that Bradach was indeed looking at the magic, and could differentiate between the different elements. The pup wouldn't move that quickly from one element to the next if he didn't have some way of knowing they were different before putting his mouth on them.
"I can't taste magic either," Kaleb replied, smiling lopsidedly as he toyed with the magic. "Sometimes my shields and tangible spells have a taste to them though." He could remember how weird it had seemed to give his shield spells an experimental lick, but he had been curious at the time, and wanted to know if they tasted like vanilla too.
Once he was sure Bradach had tasted them all, he fragmented each strand into little shapes that floated around like lazy butterflies. "It looks like he actually sees the magic," Kaleb muttered, glancing over at Aiden as though hoping for some confirmation for his logic. "I don't see magic so much as I feel it, I could close my eyes completely and have just as accurate a sense of where it's located and how it's formed, even when it's not my own magic. But it really looks like he can actually see it."
((Ah, that's the worst. D: Maybe if you remember it will be applicable farther along in conversation. =3))

"I kinnae taste it, bu' I can see i' well enou'." Though there was the barest hint of disappointment stemming more from a curious wonder at what it might be like to actually be able to have some control over the fae magic that permitted his tiny wings to carry him and whatever the strength of his arms could hold, there was no regret in either Aiden's body or voice. He was rather calm, except for the oft chuckle, as his golden eyes twinkled while watching his son. Sometimes... watching was just as wonderful as actually doing something tangible with his loved ones. This was one of those times.
"Bradach's been able t' see magic since 'e first opened his eyes. Dinnae notice 'im bitin' any a'fore, bu' there's so much dif'rent kinda a'flowin' 'roun' th' house tha' I admit I dinnae give th' possibility a thought."
Gold flecked pale violet eyes went wide with wonder and delight. Butterflies! Sparkly, tasty butterflies!! With the quickest of glances to the black-winged mage those eyes paired with a beaming smile seemed to shout a silent 'thank you!' before the pup turned and mid-turn started to go after the fragmented magic as if they were not being lazy at all but startled magical beings instead. The pup knew they were not though -magical beings tasted different. Their energy color was a different intensity. There was a difference between grass-magic and that around his Da and his siblings and him, and even more different around ones like Kaleb who could do things with the colored threads that did not always stay threads but could change shape. Tiny feathers fluttered in wind and motion as his wings flapped to give the jumping pup a little more lift to reach a green/apple fragment before Bradach lurched with pup-cuteness after a pale-blue one he was sure would taste crisp and clean and pure. Like ice-cubes or snocones without flavor squirted on. That was one of the best tastes.

Kaleb was adept at handling the raw magic, and he hardly needed to concentrate on keeping it floating around for the pup's enjoyment. Occasionally he would put some thought to sending one zipping away from the pup like a real insect might, but for the most part he left them alone.
"I've never seen it, but neither of my parents showed any magical inclinations. Otherwise I might have learned about my own innate skill long before I did." The modest mage blushed a little, he felt awkward openly talking about his magical talent, despite a majority of that being attributable to his workaholic nature.
He wondered what it was like to actually see the magic, it must have been nice to keep Bradach so entertained. But just feeling it wasn't entirely bereft of pleasure. His gentle healing magic was like working with strands of sunlight, and the magic that formed some of his barriers felt as soft as liquid marble. Unfortunately it also gave him a distinct bias against certain spells. The strong, forbidden magic he had learned in order to perfect his countermeasures had made him retch the first time he so much as touched the deadly elements.
A strong shudder ran through him at the memory, and all the magical 'butterflies' seemed to ripple for a second. He hoped Bradach would never have to see any of that harsh, cruel magic.

Aiden nodded thoughtfully. He did not remember having any parents, for it had been Trelweny alone who had cared for him as a pup -unless one counted the cait Locke and his familiar. But then that was not uncommon. Not really. If the legend could be believed... well it really was not important now anyway. It was a pleasant story.
"Tis easier when th' parents ken abou' a gift, aye." Was what the Highlander commented instead in his usual soft-spoken brogue. He was no telepath or even empath to guess the direction his friend's thoughts had taken. His own were on his pups, understandably so. "It'd be a surprise fer me if th' laddie or his siblings could use magic, t'be sure."
The markings over his eyes shifted as a brow arched seeing the flicker in the magic Kaleb was 'playing' with his son. Only a bare flick to the mage, worried but trusting Kaleb's overall skill with magic. The concerned father was more focused on how his con might react to even such a small disturbance. How had it been for the pup?
This - was - the - best!! With joyous grin Bradach pranced after the different colored things gaily, happily dashing after a darting glimmer when it 'escaped' with full enthusiasm. So what if it might look to others that he was chasing invisible things? Bradach was too little to know or care. Oh, he knew not everyone could see the colors he saw -not even most of the magic users at home. But Da could and he could and sometimes Dida Trel (he had picked up the nickname for their human from the cait, Amaryllis) seemed to be able to too. And the Relms -but then the pictomancers saw everything in colors and art. Still never had the colors played with him before.
Then there was a shimmer. Something touching the magic was sad/scared/unhappy. The colors dimmed momentarily as if touched by gray or covered with cloud or fog. Their taste went ashen -even if only for a moment. Charcoal muzzle went to the mage. He was the one moving the colors, Bradach had figured that out. Da certainly could not -only when he flew did colors stir specially around Da. So it must be the one the colors of magic loved. With a soft soundless whimper the pup cast a momentary farewell glance at the dancing magics then darted over to the adults with a 'I'll make you smile' pup grin on his face. He had left them too long alone. Adults really did need a lot of looking after. See what happened when he left them alone? A quick -almost cursory- nuzzle to his father, then Bradach had his paws on the smaller male's legs to try and stretch his small pup body so that his head nuzzled Kaleb's belly. Smiling bright eyes peeked cutely and sweetly up at the mage as if to say it was all right, everything would be fine.

Kaleb's slight unhappy frown turned to confusion when Bradach came running back, grinning like he could bring the sun itself over to brighten their day. It surprised him when the pup came right up to him, and he couldn't help but lean back with a fluff of his wings as Bradach nuzzled him.
"I'm sorry, I got a little distracted, didn't I?" Kaleb said quietly, figuring it was the ripple that had drawn the pup out of his playing. Such a light shift of magic wouldn't have had any effect if he had actually formed it into a spell, but the raw elements could carry a disturbance like a ripple on water. He hesitantly reached over and gave the pup's ears an apologetic pat.
Suddenly his stomach grumbled, quiet but insistent like he had grown accustomed to over the past couple months, and his cheeks turned red. "Ah, h-here," he stammered quickly, losing his cool and conjuring up a colourful, glowing sphere for Bradach to play with. Perhaps the pup wouldn't notice the little rumble, or at least be easier to distract than Riley when he caught a sign that the mage was neglecting himself. He wasn't sure the pup would even be as attentive as his partner on matters like that, but it was proving difficult to tell.

The pup grinned, letting the mage adult think that was all it was. Yes, distracted. No, why Bradach came running. Just a distraction would not have pulled him over like this. It had been the sad, gray tone the magic had taken. But the little angelic audio pup did like his ears rubbed, especially as it seemed to cheer Kaleb up -even if only minutely.
Plaid charcoal folded ear lifted to match its mate at the unexpected sound near where the pup's head rested. Violet eyes flicked up curiously to the mage then were almost diverted by the glowing ball. In fact they grew wide with delight and his tail wagged as Bradach turned, momentarily about to chase after it. A turn. A step. Then pouting softly the pup paused, clearly torn as he looked between the the mage and the magical ball.
oh the tough decisions of the young.
Bradach pouted thoughtfully. The dark winged angel did not want him ot know he was aching and empty in the belly... why? It made no sense to the pup. Belly empty, audio ate. Then belly no longer empty and making funny empty sounds. Well... somehow the mage's belly had to have something in it. Da said it was not good to think on an empty belly, whatever that meant. Bradach only understood that when he was hungry nothing else much seemed to work right.
Whatever the reason or case or whatever... Bradach had a solution. With a tiny self-satisfied smile for his conclusion he padded back to his father, lifted up on his back legs aaaaaaaall the way (Aiden being nearly a foot taller than the short mage) and pawed meaningfully at his belly, giving soft, sad puppy eyes as if to indicate that he were hungry. Bradach tried not to wag his tail.
The Highlander smiled in his soft way, proud of his young son. Bradach's strange behavior did befuddle him quite a bit however. All but the 'I'm hungry' display. Wryly Aiden turned yellow eyes to his friend.
“Ach, Kaleb-laddie. I' seems m'wee bairn i' hungry.”
He gave a look of apology then with a warm look gently added “Will ye lunch wit' us, Laddie?” An imploring smile that his pup mirrored and intensified. “I dinnae think Bradach nor the lassie would e'er forgive me if ye dinnae."”

Kaleb bit down on his lip when he noticed his distraction was failing. It didn't make any sense, up until that point the spell had been almost flawless in executing it's goal. That spell had calmed many small children at the hospital, distracting them while he treated an injury, or gave them an injection, or whatever it was he needed to accomplish that the child would otherwise resist. Sometimes it even worked on adults, but why not Bradach?
The little mage's anxious fingers twined together in his lap as he waited to see how things played out, and was surprised at the ingenious solution the pup had arrived at. As much as he wanted to believe that perhaps Bradach had coincidentally found himself with a similar rumbling stomach, he knew it wasn't the case.
" I-I w-would love to join you," Kaleb stammered out, "i-it's been awhile since I've had lunch with friends." He managed to smile, and neglected to mention his poor appetite had left him long due for a good meal. He only hoped Aiden wouldn't think anything of the sudden reappearance of his stuttering. "Bradach c-can keep the ball t-to play with later if he wants, I tied off the magic weave so it won't fade away."
He floated the abandoned ball over and gave it back to the pup, along with a quick 'I saw what you did just there,' expression. From a real authority figure it might have been reproachful, but from the timid little mage it would come across as nothing more than a conspiratorial thank you.

Ah, but see the pup -somewhere in his subconscious- thought that perhaps the reason the magic had turned gray was because of Kaleb being hungry. Bradach wagged his tail happily and sat up on his hind legs to be lifted up -not knowing he had been a conundrum to the mage at all. it made sense to him.
“ah. good.” with a smile Aiden stood and collected his pup-son into his arms. "We'll ge' somethin' near, aye? Be a good bit o' places t' eat jus' outside th' park. Cannae go filling up on ice cream an' snacks now, laddies." The soft-spoken Highlander gave a wink and started walking to the nearest exit. “d'ye have a preference i' cuisine, Kaleb-lad?”
