Fern began innocently moving from crystal to crystal, trying to create rainbows with her own shine. She soon grew bored, though, and began venturing closer to the elf.
He's smiling... I wonder why he smiles so. The notion that she had been seen never crossed her mind. Then again, neither had the risk of being seen. As she flitted about above his head, that strange flow in the not-quite-air caught her in a whirlwind. Fern's little wings seemed useless against the feeling of energy pulling her about, and it was far too late to acclimate to the sensation by the time she was sent hurtling into the face of the elf she had been so eager to spy on.
"Aaaoof!" she squeaked as her body collided with the bridge of his nose and forehead.

" Oof!" It wasnt the force, but the surprise, that sent Gavin falling off of the chair and onto the floor ungracefully, something a noble shouldn't be.
" Uh..." He groaned, picking himself up and massaging his nose.
" What was that for?" He wondered, looking about for the light, his voice richly accented.

Fern had dropped off his face, onto his chest, and promptly fell again to the floor once he began to get himself sorted out. It was all terribly disorienting, not to mention she was almost half-conscious. She could manage to make herself full-sized again in order to answer his question that she had vaguely heard.
"Ooohh..... that was the oddest thing..." Fern rubbed her own face and arms to rid herself of that squished feeling. Having bruises wouldn't be the best thing to have when meeting new people, she thought.

Gavin dark eyes widened as she turned back to normal size. He found himself face-to-face with definently the prettiest woman he had seen. But more than that, she had a sense of realisim, not one of the pure-bred, never seeing the sun kinda lady that his parents tried to make him marry. He cleared his throat with a blush and stood. He offered his hand to her with a gentlemanly smile.
" M'lady."

Fern gladly took it, blushing as well at her incredible blunder and speaking quickly to explain herself. As she stood, she reeled a bit from the ordeal.
"...and I'm usually an excellent flyer, mind you, just like a sparrow... Aye, that was a strange thing to be swept up in a wind like that with no open windows about..." She desperately hoped that this new gentleman would forgive her. The next apology to be issued would be from laughing at his fae-dusted face, but Fern kept that giggle to herself.

Gavin smiled, waving a hand in the air.
" No, it's fine." He used a simple spell to gather the fae dust on him into a tight, sparkly ball, which he handed to her.
" I believe that belongs to you." He smiled at her, bowing and kissing her free hand.
" It's a pleasure to meet you, m'lady." He said as he straightened with a light flush.
" I'm Gavin. Who might you be?"

"Ooh..." Fern pocketed the ball as he kissed her hand. It was such an odd thing for him to do. It brought such color to her face that she feared she would be something akin to a red rose if she could catch herself in a mirror.
"My name's Fern Everlasting, Gavin. It's a pleasure to meet you. Did you fall hard?" Her voice had a slight lilt to it when she spoke, as if she came from Ireland or near it and was full of concern despite his assurance that nothing was wrong.

" It's fine. I'm a fast healer, m'lady." His own voice was a mixture, seeing as he learned so many languages, but it was handsome all the same. He smiled at her red face, which no doubt was close to his. He gestured to the couch.
" Please. I would feel much better if you sat for a moment to unwind from that...flight..you took." He waited until she was seated to seat himself next to her.

Fern had to situate herself close to the end so she could sit sideways, wings hanging over the side. After a few mutterings on wing crinkles, she was able to make herself comfortable and sort herself out.
What do I say? she thought desperately. The best route seemed to be asking about his origins, as she had ever met what seemed to be a nobleman.
"So, Gavin..." Fern began. "Pardon me if I'm being forward, but you sound like you're something of a nobleman from all your speech and gestures." It was all said with a smile and good intentions so as not to come off as socially inept.

Gavin smiled at her, ruffling his hair again. It had become a habit over the years.
" Yes, actually. The elven king is my uncle, as it would happen." He rolled his eyes a bit.
" Which doesn't make things any easier." He shook himself.
" What about you, Fern?" He asked, wondering where she grew up, though he could guess somewhere with lots of plants.

But her eyes were wide at the idea of who Gavin was.
"The elven king? Oh, that's got to be a bit of an adventure every day, if you don't mind me saying so." Fern smoothed out her dress that lay in a fine, shining veil on her lap, like sunshine. "I grew up in a little grove right by a stream, in a beautiful, deep forest. It was a nice little community we had, but we were so isolated from everyone else. I'm glad I came here to see what it's like."

Gavin chuckled.
" I would have rather grown up where you did. Im a bit of a woodsman myself, and would have delighted in it." He smiled, twiddling with a toggle on his tunic, spring green, and open to reveal a soft white undershirt. He left it up to her to ask why he didn't want to grow up where he did.

Of course Fern took the opportunity.
"Was it really that bad, living with all those pretty women and sparkling things?" she asked, getting just a little closer to him out of curiosity. "I used to pretend I was a princess when I was younger..."

Gavin smiled, reminiscing.
" It wasn't so bad when I was a kid. Outside of lessons, I was allowed to do what I wanted. When I grew older was when the reality of my station set in." He frowned, something his handsome face wasn't suited for.
" I woulda been happier as the lowliest peasant. I didn't want the luxury, even as a kid, and wondered most of the time why we wouldn't help the people who really needed the money. Of course, elven nobles are just like human ones, maybe a bit more dignified. My mum wasn't so bad, but she wasn't aloud to say much; it was my dad that was the greedy one."
His eyes, lily-pad green, took on a brooding sort of light.
" As their only child, all the responsibility of out family was placed on me. I wasn't allowed any outside- the estate excursions, so I wasn't able to go in the woods, and nearly every night, my parents would set up some sort of fancy-shmancy dinner party, where I had to meet and greet as many noble ladies as I could.." He frowned deeper, then mentally shook himself. His normal smile returned.
" Im talking too much, aren't I? I should be asking about you." He said, smiling.

"Aye... I see now. You were a free prisoner, and they were trying to show you off to the world. It's nice that you didn't get pulled into it all, Gavin," Fern said with a smile. While he was telling his tale, it worried her that he frowned so much, especially when speaking of his father. But, he clearly wanted to deviate from it all. "There's not much to tell about me. I'm an only child, and get on very well with my parents. Me dad was a bit of a stickler for the rules, but I was always getting myself into scrapes and trouble, so it was on good grounds."
