As Anna started to cry, the dragon's heart broke for her. Pyralis should have been able to do something more for her, but he just held her close, stroking her hair from time to time. The tears would exaughst her and no doubt the elf needed her sleep. Even then, he wouldn't leave her side.
It was then that the beads and scraps of material caught his attention. What the...were those from her dress? "Anna," He began, but decided it was best no to mention it. If she had destroyed the dress, it was her own business. He could understand. Pyralis changed his train of thought. "Sit down with me."
Gentley, he picked up Anna and craddled her in his arms, sitting right next to the fire. "I can feel the lingering chill on your skin, A'mael."

In his arms, Anna felt safe for the first time since the ordeal. She rested her face against him, and began to steady her breathing. A few stray tears came now and then, but she was beginning to calm herself. There would be time for more quiet grief later.
"I couldn't keep it," she said, after they had been sitting by the blaze she created. With the pearls and bits still lingering by the fireplace, he was sure to have noticed what she had done. Still, though, Anna felt no guilt for the destroyed dress. "I came here to be rid of it, and to see if there was something... something that I had missed."
A quick gesture was made to the books strewn about and flung open to chapters on healing. Some tomes spoke of demons, others demonic sicknesses. Nothing, though, gave her a clear answer on my Verdi had slipped away after all she had done to save her. "I'm sorry if I worried you, dearest."

Resting his head lightly on top of hers, Pyralis released a heavy sigh. "I just can't imagine losing you Anna. The threat was so real. I need to have you near me where I can watch you...for my own sake as well as yours." He added the last part, remembering how independant Anna was. She was strong too. How could her healing powers have not helped Verdi.
"We all missed something my love." His eyes scanned the books she had pulled out. The spirit-seer had been healed. They had all seen the body. Except for the blood, Verdi had appeared to only be sleeping. "There is something more to her death than the wounds she suffered."

His words of losing her hit a soft spot. Though who was she to fool, her whole heart was a soft spot then. "But what if... what if something like that happened to you and I couldn't save you?" Yet another fear exposed. Anna felt selfish thinking it, but a large part of this hurt was the chance that should something like that happen again, and more specifically to the one she loved most, she would not be able to heal.
Anna adjusted herself so she could wrap her arms about his neck, and bury her reddened face. "I cannot imagine losing you, either. You are my dragon, my A'mael," Anna said through sniffles. "And I am yours. But now I can't imagine what I am to the students, or to Kaien..."

Pyralis squeezed her just a little. "My heart beats as long as your heart beats. Did I not promise that?" He would always protect her. It was in his nature and that came along with an intense survival instinct. "If you ever lost me, then how I would protect you?" Surely that was an absurd idea. The dragon not protect Anna? It was something he would never allow to happen.
As for her fears, "You did everything in your power. The students and Kaien will need you more than ever. You are so radient my dear Anna, they will need you to light the way at times. I know it is within your power to help all that are here." Verdi had died, but they still didn't know anything about her death. There could still be somthing to find out.

His words eased her worry a bit, though her shame still stung. It couldn't be let go of so easily in her mind, even if everyone knew and believed that she had done all she could. Even Anna knew deep within her heart that what had happened was something none of them could have stopped.
Anna let her own sigh escape before resting in his arms as she had been before, watching the fire. There really was nothing else to be done that night concerning the ball. Everything would have to wait for now, and so she would sit with her love, and feel his warmth as the night stretched on. They would be each other's strength. and how she loved him...
"I had a dream," she said softly, as her eyes began to droop shut with sleep. "We were home." Home... how lovely that sounded then, to be far away from all of this. "We sat in a field, you as a dragon. And we were curled up together. I was by your nose, and your neck and tail stretched all around... And we were talking. Just talking, and laughing. It was nice."

Listening to her voice, Pyralis could let his mind drift away in that thought. It sounded nice and he imagined the two of them could be quite content just like that. An actual smile touched his lips, however small. "I would like that very much. We'll have to make such a thing happen very soon." The human world facinated him, but he did long to return to the other realms at times. It would be refreshing, if only for a little while. There was something in every creature from those realms that always called to them. No matter your ties in the human world, you would feel the pull of the Other Realms. It was in the very blood of every single one of them.
Kissing the top of her head, he smiled and murmered in her ear. "Close your eyes dearest. Close your eyes and dream some more. Take us home and everywhere else your mind can think up. I'll keep watch as you explore."

There were times when Pyralis made Anna want to cry simply because he made her so happy. Listening to his soft voice lull her to sleep was such a time. But, she was tired, and more tears, even if they were for pure joy, would not do either of them much good.
Anna could, however, sit up a bit to kiss him sweetly. "I love you," she said. "You make me so proud..." Indeed, seeing him fight that beast made her understand how skilled he was with a blade, and how fierce he could truly be, even if what she saw was only the beginning of his real might.
The elf snuggled close to him, still in his arms as she thought about all that had happened. "But don't lose sleep over me, Pyralis. You've been through just as much as I have."

"Do not worry, I will rest soon." And he would, too; but first he would watch over his love. There wasn't a potion or spell strong enough to make Pyralis sleep just yet. He would watch and keep the demons and bad dreams away from the 'delicate' elf in his arms. Anna was strong in her own way, magnificiant really; but he would always treat her like a rare gem that would break if he dropped her. It was his way. How sweet a creature Anna was to put up with him. He kissed her back, as always, tempering his passion at such times as these.
Watching as his love sleepily started to close her eyes, Pyralis brushed away a lock of hair that fell into her face. He could watch her forever and never once become bored by her beauty. She would captivate him forever.
The only light in the room now was that of the fire. It cast flickering shadows all around the room, lighting up the fair skinned elf and her dragon.

And so Anna slept in the arms of a dragon whom she loved so dearly. It was even clear upon her face as she slumbered, the peace she gained from him and the knowledge that he would be true to his word all there to bring her comfort.
Dreams, too, made her lips turn up in a small, almost undetectable smile. Flying... they were flying together, over all the lands and seas of the worlds. Laughing, spinning, smiling for pure joy of just being together in a land all their own. There was no great catastrophe at the Grove Academy, no demon that could stop them. The only thought that came to Anna's mind during her dream was how beautiful the world was from a dragon's point of view.
The dreams carried her sore heart through the night until morning came.

Though he could keep it up for hours yet, lack of sleep was revealed in the eyes of a dragon watching over his elf. Pyralis had yet to doze, for he was too content watching Anna sleep; and as she woke up, he knew just how worth it it was to have stayed awake.
"Good morning my angel. A new day has dawned and the new days tasks will soon be at hand." Anna always seemed to have paperwork to file and students to take care of.

Anna woke slowly. Her head hurt from her crying, but the dreams she had were worth that feeling of unrest. The best part, though, was waking up right in the arms of Pyralis. He hadn't taken her to her own bed and left her there, or placed her upon the small couch in the library. No, he had kept her nearby and warm throughout the entire night.
And judging by his sleepy eyes, he had spent that night awake. "Good morning..." she said in a sleepy voice as she gazed back at him with equally sleepy eyes. They examined him for a few moments before she let out a soft chuckle. "I knew you weren't about to listen to me."
There was the ghost of a smile on her lips as Anna looked up at him and willed herself to wake.

Pyralis joined in with her soft laughter. "It seems I'm a terribly stubborn man." Tilting her chin up gentley, he leaned down and kissed her. Pulling back, he sighed. "I would prescribe a day of rest and reading for you, A'mael, but why do I think that you will show a stubborness to match my own?" He laughed softly again. "What is it you must do today?" Though he asked her this question, his arms never made a move to release her from his warm embrace. She was by no means trapped, but letting go of her was hardly at the top of his list.

Although she still bore a sadness to her, Anna was not about to let Pyralis worry. If he was this concerned about her with the passing of the last night's ordeal, she couldn't imagine how he would react if he saw her show the true sadness within herself. It was Anna smiled for him, but she knew once she was working, she would slip into that sadness once more.
If she had a choice in the matter, Anna would sit with him all day to read, sleep, and think. His kiss pulled her even further into that wish to escape the day ahead... That wasn't a possibility, though. There were still students who needed to be accepted and corresponding paperwork to be done.
"Today..." she began as she played with the buttons and stitching on his shirt. "I have to accept students who applied late. And fill out paperwork..." A laugh came out rather weakly. "Try to pretend that it's just another day. What are your tasks?"
She hoped and prayed that he would not be sent into the other realms to search in dangerous places again. Last time he had returned with gashes upon his side. What next, she wondered? Missing an arm?

"I have paperwork that needs filing. I need to keep track of my students and see how they are fairing." He sensed her worries already. "I have no dangerous business to conduct just yet. You need not worry, my work is within the school walls just now." Pyralis smiled to encourage the smile Anna was putting on. It wouldn't just be another day, but they could try.
Pyralis was already thinking of supprising her at some point during the day, but with what and when he wasn't sure of yet. There had to be something he could think up to brighten her day.
