Completely ignoring his sister’s pleas, Vry went right on ahead with gnawing and pulling on her ear. On the bright side, all he had were his baby teeth, barely more than little nubs in his mouth. On the downside, having your ear pulled by your brother had to hurt. “Don’t be shuch a cwrybwaby,” he growled at his sister as best he could. It wasn’t easy, seeing as his jaws were clamped on her ear, but he tried to manage. His tail waggled happily as he continued tugging. It made perfect sense in his mind: if someone was too small to stop you, then you could do whatever you wanted! Yay! Besides, Icky was the least likely to fight back.

Not that he actually was trying to hurt her. He just wanted to play! It wasn’t his fault that his siblings were such crybabies and all had boring ideas of what was acceptable playtime. He promptly released Ichtaca’s ear as something pushed him off of his newfound prey. Annoyed at being stolen from Ichtaca, Vry transferred his jaws to the new attacker, Kito. Nomnomnomnom…

Alright, now he was trying to hurt, or at least do something! But, of course, this was extremely difficult, seeing as his claws were still soft and the teeth were little more than nubs. “You… you poopyface, Kito! I was playing!” he said in between enraged gnawings on Kito’s ankle. He wriggled intensely, trying to throw his sister off of him. “I’m the oldest, so what I say goes!” he complained.

Vry's logic could come back to bite him, as it so happened. Kito was bigger then her brother, and was more then happy to use that to her advantage. One one that didn't cry to her brother's attacks, was the one doing the attacking, she didn't mind playing his way, when it got to be too much, she always could push him off on Hana, for now she was fine.

Fighting back to her brother, she used her front paws to try and bat him into submision, all the while bitting in to anything she could get her teeth on, harder he played, the harder she would. "I am bes' ist, what I say goes with my siblings." She put emphases on my, because they were all hers just because she didn't come out first, doesn't make that any less true.

"Sides, your jus' mad because I can beat your tail!" Fully emboldened by her sense of being the best and greatest, little distracted her in the attempted mauling of her little brother, so what if he was born first, he wa still little to her.

Taka wanted to cry out in frustration when Ichta called out. Vry was to rough for his own good, he didn't seem to understand that he had to careful with his sisters, especially Ichta. Hana and Kito were larger and could deal with him easily, but Ichta was small, and Taka knew her sweet daughter preferred a less violent form of playing. "Vr--" she started, and then felt little baby claws in her fur, and turned her head, ready to ask what was going on, when Kito pounced from her back. A small jolt of pain raced through the young mother's body, because she still ached, and would ache for a while, because of the birth of her litter.

She watched Kito tackle Vry from Ichta, and thanks Munga for that, and said gently, "Come here Ichta, are you alright? Come here, let Momma cheer you up before your brother can get up." She gave her smallest cub a reassuring smile, and motioned her closer with a paw, urging her to hurry before Vry was free, though it didn't seem like the wild rascal that was her first born would be getting up soon, not with Kito pinning him. And then she took a moment to check on Ashiki, who had been sleeping last she had checked. But when she glanced to the spot where he had been, the cub wasn't there.

A moment of panic, sudden fear overtook the lioness, but it was washed away when said once sleeping cub appeared beside her, and yawned a quaint good morning. Taka laughed, something she found she enjoyed doing, and bent down, giving her small son (almost as small as Ichta) a good lick on the head, and purred, "Good morning, sleepy-head."

Of course, she had planned to say more, but she could hear Vry and Kitp bickering, and looked at them, and sighed. "Kito, careful, and Vryheid, stop bitting so hard!"

And so was the life of a mother, she lamented, and turned back to Ashiki. "Did you have a good dream?"

Kauli bounded away and instantly began searching. Not just with his eyes. His nose quivered and his ears flicked. His sensitive pads picked up each movement. The information he gathered from his various senses was compiled and he sorted through it and pieced it together to figure out what was going on around him. He immediately located a small field mouse and passed that by. Far too small to provide any sort of nourishment.
His next find was a ground squirrel.
Li slunk low to the ground and crept up on the poor thing, pouncing before it could scream. This Li tore open and devoured. That was his meal. Now he had to find something more for Taka. Bigger would be better.
He returned to his sensitive scanning as he wandered, painfully aware that each passing second was an opportunity for a predator to strike Taka or the cubs.
Could she fight in her weakened state? Panic rose in his throat but he quelled it quickly. Taka could hold her own, but she wouldn't be able to for much longer if he didn't get her some food.
That was the most important thing.
He wandered a bit longer before he began to pick up something of interest. A smell in the air and vibrations in the ground.
he cast around for the source and soon located a small herd of impala. The herd was unusually small, actually.
Likely it was a male cast out of a larger herd and just starting to form his own.
This was good. An inexperienced leader and a small herd.
Li fell into predator mode, stalking the little group cautiously.
There was a large ewe at the edge of the herd, grazing the long grasses lazily. She didn't look heavy with a fawn, just large boned and well fed.
Li marked this as his target.
Generally an old or sick member of a herd would be selected, but prolonging the survival of the herd was not his main priority today.
Feeding Taka and feeding her well was.
He stalked, he moved closer and closer.
The ewe took notice at the last minute but by then it was two late. The herd had noticed Li before the ewe had. they began to bolt and she started after them, but Li sprung and landed hard on her spine. he sunk in his claws and bit down on the neck.
She stumbled and fell and was still.
Thoroughly pleased with himself Li began the trek back to Taka and his cubs.

Hana was disappointed over not being able to go and her displeasure showed on her face before she turned to see Kito tackle Vry as her Papa left. She made a face and sat down where she stood, pouting a bit. Vry liked playing with Ichi and Kito liked protecting Ichi and Ashi was quiet. So where did that leave her?

The cub's ears fell and she sat there for a moment more, watching her siblings go at it before returning to the bank of the pond. She looked in and looked at herself. She was very, very pink. Ashi and Vry and her Momma all had a little bit on them, but she was the only one that was nearly ALL pink. Did that mean something? She shook her head at the thought. Nah, it just happened that way, that was it. She was a lot like Kito, except her reasons were different. Kito wanted to keep Ichi out of harm, and she just wanted to keep everyone from getting hurt. Plus, she LIKED rough-housing with Vry.

She sighed and stuck a paw into the water and pulled it back to see the water move. She smiled as the circles grew and disturbed a couple little water-thingys to dart back to the middle where they had probably come from. She wondered how Papa was doing and when he'd come back and if she'd really get to go with next time.
She was such a daddy's girl.

Vry was all too happy to bat right back at his sister, curling one paw around to bring his soft floppy claws into the action. He even tried to rear up on his hind feet, in order to gain any advantage he could over his larger sibling. But, unfortunately, he couldn’t quite stay balanced like that. His tail swung wildly behind him as he fought a new battle, one for balance. Like the fight against his sister, it was one he couldn’t win and the young cub fell over. “You did not beat my tail!” he protested, unwilling to give up any fight at all. In fact, even now, he was struggling to his feet once more, the aforementioned tail lashing behind him. “And you are not the bestest! You just wait! I’m gonna grow up to be bigger’n… ‘n…” he screwed up his face in a gesture of concentration as he tried to think of the biggest thing in the world.

“’N Daddy!” he finished his thought finally, stomping one foot in triumph. Yeah, he was going to grow up to be bigger than Daddy! Maybe even twice as big! “And I’m not your sibling!” he went on, remembering something else his sister had said. Sitting down, he announced to the world. “Only girls’re siblings. Boys’re brothers. Fancy you not knowin’ that.”

Clearly, he was just a wee bit confused with his words here… ‘sister’ and ‘sibling’ were rather similar. Just as clearly, he wasn't going to listen to his mother either.

Watching her brother fall, the little cub giggles lightly but holds in her great mirth. It wouldn't do for her family to see her laughing at her brother's misfortune. Standing back, she watched him intently, smiling she shook her head; he didn't even realize he was beaten. Of course, then he got silly and she corrected him, her head up high, "I am so the bestest, runt!" Since he was not realizing her greatness, the claws were out, he was so a runt about as bad as Icha.

Tilting her head to the side, she almost looked sympathic, "Even your brain is runted, poor thing. Siblings are both, boys and girls." She spoke exactly like one would with an extremely slow child. So goes superiority.

With her look on life, she didn't worship her father, hardly noticed when he was or wasn't there unless he was doing something that was particularly important to her at that moment. Not that she didn't love him, just didn't worship anyone but herself. "You won't be bigger, once a runt always a runt." The moment he recognized her greatness all will be well and she'll even stop calling him runt, until then, there was no being nice. Mother's warning wasn't going to fix that either. Hana, her little brother as well as Icha were not even on her radar, doubt her, and they will suffer the same.

Hana's ears twitched at her sister's words and her head snapped around. Her ears flicked back as her eyes narrowed.
"Stop that, Ki. You're not so big and I bet he does grow bigger'n you," she growled back, her fur bristling. Kito was being a real meanie, more than Vry was. And it was upsetting the little flower-colored lioness. She couldn't hate any of her brothers or sisters, but She was having a lot of trouble accepting her attitude and Vry's constant roughing up of Ichi. It was highly frustrating and She really wish she could have been with her papa instead of having to listen to her little sister berate her older brother like that. She knew she was a match against Kito, she just didn't like fighting so much. But if it got her sister away from Vry, then it would have to do.

At the barrage of insults, Vry’s ears pinned back against his head and he let out a tiny growl. Actually, it sounded a bit more like a whine than a growl. But, give him a break… cubs that were just a few days old couldn’t exactly be the most fearsome beasts on the planet, now could they? “Shut up, Ki! You don’t know that I won’t be bigger ‘n you! Daddy is bigger ‘n Mommy and I’m a boy just like Daddy!” It made sense in his mind. Sort of…

Help came from unexpected places, as Hana finally spoke up. For a moment, Vry’s fur bristled and he ached to tell her to keep her nose out of his business… but… then again… if she was willing to help him, there was no reason not to take advantage of that help. “See? Hanner’s the smart one,” he said snidely, sticking his tongue out at Kito. “I’m not gonna play with you any more!”

A tough threat, especially at their age. It was practically a declaration of war. Still, in all likelihood, the threat would be forgotten by tomorrow… for now, however, he would make good on his threat as he playfully began stalking Hana instead, deciding that his flowery sister was more interesting.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 04, 2008 6:29 am

The sound her brother made was interesting, she certainly felt like she was getting her point acrossed. After all, she wasn't a mean lion, in her mind, all one had to do was recognize her superiority. Then, there would be no problems. Too bad her brother didn't see it that way. "Yes I do, and when you don't, you'll see I know all." She did, being that she was the queen of the world, a goddess above all goddesses, superiority incarnate.

Then the all pink one jumped in to her brother's defense, which took Hana from being just a background character, to her enemy list. Snapping at her 'sister' she added, "Stay out of it and go back to growing your mane! You don't want me mad at you." There were worse thing she could call people other than of the wrong gender, insulating that Hana was so much like their father that she'd grow a mane like him.

Already her mind was formulating things to bite back with. Currently, it was pointing out that she didn't look like them, so must have been adopted. It didn't matter that it was low, but Hana deserved it for butting in to something that was none of her concern. No one was being hurt; she fully thought her brother was tougher then to get all broken up by words. If he wasn't, then supplication would be a find way to prove she was wrong.

"No, Hana doesn't think you can stick up for yourself, rather insulting. I She is proving that she thinks you are too weak to even stand up to words" When two forces go against you, try and turn one against the other. The threat came, one she didn't like at all, and she was more than willing to go back against him, "You only like playing with those smaller then you, who says I'd let you play with me anyway?" It was irritating, even if she was better than all of them, it didn't mean she wouldn't be kind enough to play, if they were so interested in playing with each other, or one of their parents.

The lioness eyes narrowed as she watched Kito. That cub was as much a trouble maker as her first born, and she watched every movement Vry made at each taunt Kito spit out. At first, she had thought it was play, because they were cubs, but now it was obvious. Those two would butt heads throughout their lives. And she was worried now, because Vry was crouching lower to the ground, his ears falling back against his head.

"K--" she started, when Hana stepped forward. Where there had been a sense of 'I am almighty' around her daughter Kito, there was also an aura around Hana, a sense of justice and pride and dedication to this family. These cubs, Taka felt, were growing to fast...

She worriedly watched the flower-cub berate Kito; watched Vry's reaction to such help (and was glad to see he accepted it, thank Munga), and then Kito's retaliation. The little grin cub was acting as if she was better then any of the other cubs, and there was a flame of irritation in the motherly lion's chest.

"Kito," she growled, pushing her self up. It was time to deal with this. Now. Over that gentle friendly face fell the mask she wore when she had been the Pure of her ex-tribe. The blank, serious, empty mask. The mask that had scared the cubs and had the other lions whispering about her. She was tired of her daughter's shinanigans. The cub was no more then the rest, she was cub. Not a god, or a queen, or what ever. "You say you don't want them mad at you," she said in her most motherly tone, "but you should be the one being careful, I am much scarier then you when I am mad." Takawa looked at her daughter, and felt the defiance radiate off her like heat off a rock in the midday sun.

"I think it is time that you left your brother and sister alone, we are going to talk, and once daddy gets back, he is going to talk to you as well." With that, Taka gave Vry a look that said 'Say anything and you are in trouble too' and then opened her mouth, and went to grab Kito by the scruff of the neck and head back to the tree.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 04, 2008 1:40 pm

Now even her mother was deifying her! Angry, she decided she didn't want them as family anymore, not if they were going to be so unreasonable and mean. She didn't respond to a word Taka said, didn't even look at her as if the older lioness no longer existed. She didn't either; no one that didn't believe in her existed. She was alone there at the water's edge, even after being picked up, she still gave no indication that she knew she was being picked up much less by whom.

All she needed as a moment, a moment when none of the 'nothings' were paying attention to her. She'd show them, go off on her own rather then suffer under those that didn't see her for the great thing she was. That made things better, knowing she'd make them all see how much they needed her.

Hana grinned at Vry's nickname for her. It faded, of course, when Kito shot back her insults, against both her and her motives for sticking up for her brother. Her ears flicked back and a bitter taste formed in her mouth as she readied a defense against her sister, but their mother intervened before she could say anything in retaliation.

So instead, she turned to face Vry with a grin, her ears set back in play.
"Catch me if you can!" she growled and leaped away into a baby run, her legs stumbling a bit as she ran from her brother. She ran off away from the edge of the pool, not really wanted to tumble in should Vry tackle her. Instead, she took off around the tree, laughing at the new game.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 04, 2008 11:58 pm

“Nuh-huh! Hanners would never do that ever! Because she’s better than you like that!” Vry shot back. Admittedly, they weren’t exactly masterly retorts, but he had plenty of time to improve. When Momma came around and pulled Kito away, the older cub couldn’t help but grin toothily in a slightly malicious fashion. Ha! Served Kito right, pulling on airs like that! His grin shrank by a few molars at the news that Daddy would want to talk to him… but, that could wait. For one thing, Hana was challenging him to a new game. Yay!

He ran after her. That is, he tried to run after her. Being a little baby, however, the most he could do was sort of have an organized stumble that, by pure chance, brought him closer to her. It was close enough. His tail waved wildly behind him as he struggled to stay in balance. “I’m gonna get you!” Crouching down close to the ground, he began to stalk his sister’s tail, since he thought he could see the very tip of it around the thick trunk of a tree. The water was unnoticed; why would he notice something like that when there was something far more fun and interesting to chase after?

Kauli dragged the Impala until his teeth ached. He wasn't used to carrying big game. . . But Taka would be so thrilled!
Finally he saw the colored blobs in the distance that was his family. He was pleased to discover that they were relatively hard to see and he had only noticed them because he was looking for the particular colors and shapes.
As he drew closer he felt a tension in the air. Oh dear. What had the cubs done now? He saw Taka pick up Kito and take her away from er siblings, who promptly forgot the incident and resumed play. He shook his head and walked faster, though he was tempted to run the other way . . . all in good nature of course. The fatherly duties he now had as well as the added responsibilities of a mate were more than welcome to him and he relished the presence and personality of each cub and of course Takawa.
