Guardian1239 I think they're spelled bronchitis and pneumonia, both of which I've had at one point or another, I think. And Linis, please feel free to post anything you think about. Nothing is completely set in stone yet, so now is the time to submit ideas. After I create the design document, I'm not going to allow for many changes unless we have to change something. I've been working on a bunch of things, like a project of my own called Specialis and now a two-week contest, so I haven't been posting much in the guild. After the design document is created, things will pick up, and I'll begin recruiting elsewhere, and probably create a site for us (or I could just use the site I made before). sweatdrop are you talking about the contest on .org? I was thinking about entering too, but too lazy....

I'm quite active on rmxp.org. I'm infamous more than famous. I'm the responsible, serious type and the staff...aren't. I've gotten exiled from the NFG twice for posting stupid stuff (well, serious in the NFG is considered stupid).
But, back to this! We seriously need more than 3 votes. I know there are more people than that around here. I didn't vote yet because I'm not sure, but I really need everyone's input.

I already voted. I chose "No". The reason is simple. Voice acting can either enhance a game, or ruin it. There are people who's decision on playing a game, or whether or not they even like it, depends on voice acting. I've heard good, quality games, get bashed and thrown away purely because the voice acting and dialogue were sub par. On the flip side, I've heard games that had sub-par gameplay, get praised and practically put on a pedestal for having good dialogue and voice acting.
But if voice acting is included anyways, there should be an option to turn it off (which I already have an idea on how to do, if nobody else already knows).
Oh yeah. And depending on how much voice acting there is, it'll make the file size anywhere from large, to astronomical.

that is true but i put yes considering we dont need voice acting for the whole game im thinkiing if our guys can learn spells or not considering its a fantasy game then maybe there should be voice acting for that and maybe for abilities and stuff it doesnt only have to be for the text.

@akin.. rubbish..
voice acting can not ruin a game.. if players dilike it so much they will turn the sound of.. 9/10 the words come up with the voice over anyways..
the best way to do it is to make sure the voices suit the character.. not the other way around..
also make sure you do have the words aswell as the voice over.. simply because if a deaf person plays they may find it hard to play if they can not hear the storyline.. Mainly voice overs are there to ease the player.. if they are looking at an image and can't be bothered to read the text.. voice over is for them! but some players prefer to read the text themselves..
@akin.. i think you have made up what you have said.. voice overs can not ruin a game unless that is all they have..

All right, admittedly "ruin" was too strong a word. I was thinking of all the people I remember bitching about bad English VA work in a few of my favorite games (Disgaea 2 and Chaos Wars, and even though they can just as easily go use the Japanese VA). But I forgot that those people are actually a minority in most cases. In light of this, I retract my previous statement.
But I would still vote No.

I was going to vote "No", as well, but now that we have 3 votes for "Yes", my vote is unnecessary. We will have voices in our game, but not at first. Voices should be one of the last things we focus on because it would be pretty pointless to record all those voices and then have to redo them for a script change.

OK, a new poll has been started. This deals with the target audience of our game.
Ages 5-10 Please don't pick this. I don't want to try making a PG game.
Ages 10-15 PG-13 material. It's better than PG, at least.
Ages 15-20 This is where I think we should be. We're allowed to have cursing, violence, and sexual reference, but nothing too extreme.
Ages 20+ Nothing is off-limits. I'd rather stay away from this if possible.
