I know absolutely nothing about the 2009 specials. I'm not sure if I can even get them where I am...
Now that 3rd definition for the Osterhagen key got my attention. I'm guessing that the Master is definitely not coming back this season, but that "Old Saxon" thing definitely makes me think they're foreshadowing.
Personally, I don't have anything right now on what the key might actually be used for: at the moment, I agree with the self-destruct idea, but I haven't had much of a chance to think it through.

I don't see how the key thing would be for self destucting the earth. I mean, if they used it, yeah, they would get rid of the darleks, but not all of them. They would still rampaging around the universe. By self destructing the earth they would just kill themselves off, but there must be some kind of terrible consequence to useing the key.

Maybe, even though it's meant to mean "Earths gone" it doesn't literally mean the earth will be blown up...perhaps some sort of nuclear launch or similar superweapon?
Just speculation.

It's interesting to note that the Osterhagen Key was introduced into the mix after the Earth had already disappeared. Earth was, at that point, gone, but not from the perspective of the characters interacting with the Key itself. It's possible that it's something to be used in the event that Earth is completely destroyed. But if that's the case, fat lot of good it's going to do if the Key is destroyed along with the Earth. Perhaps part of its function is to somehow protect the holder long enough to trigger it?

I'll be reading more posts later, but I have to post now. It think it was a cool episode. They brought in so many people though. It was fun to see different people with the doctor but it was almost as if they were trying too hard to bring in everything at once and make it the big ending that they needed. Other than that and the little bits of cheesyness with everyone freaking out at once (which is still realistic, yet cheesy all the same) I liked it.

Oh yeah and I think they attempted way to much with the special effects even though it looked cool. Although I watched it on youtube so that's probably why it looked almost fake, because of the quality of the video. I will watch season 4 again when it comes on canadian tv later in the year, hopefully when we have high def.

Maybe it's just me, but I really think the New Davros looks like Ian Holme, and the Supreme Dalek sounds like Darth Vader. . .Nah, it's proabably just me.

(In stupid America and the time-lag is killing meh.)
