Shinji nodded. It was not uncommon for students to be excited about learning magic but didn't know how or what they want to use it for. The boy gave an honest answer, that was what the master liked.
"No problem." Shinji smiled a little. "But yes, do think about it. If you use magic in the wrong way...the gift may well become a curse." He breathed deeply, looking down at the dark magic book.
"Shall I tell you about how I used magic when I first learned it?"

Nash looked between the book and Shinji smiling softly at the master's kindness with him. His violet eyes lit up at the mention of Shinji's first time with magic. "Really? Please I would love to hear it." He exclaimed, it was always refreshing hearing stories from another persons perspective on a particular topic. Maybe it would help him to make better decisions for his first time with magic.

The master sighed, regretting a little that he offered. It was a past he wasn't sure he wanted to visit, yet, it constantly comes back to him as a warning, something he ought not to do again. Not everything in his past Shinji felt that Nash should know, but seeing the dark magic book made him worried. Being a teacher for so long had made him more sentimental, but he supposed...she'd like it that way, wouldn't she?
"When I started learning magic," he started, "I did not learn it in a school like this. For my race, magic was not as uncommon as it is to you humans. My family was...rather in a difficult situation, and I came across magic by chance, and took it as a skill merely for survival."
He paused, feeling as though he lied. Part of it was not true, that magic only helped him to survive. What gained him was not only food and shelter, but fame, and that was what really marked his downfall, loosing himself in all the praises and jealousy. There was also a hidden eagerness for revenge, upon his own family for treating him poorly during his childhood. Now that he looked back, it was not completely their fault, either.
"Magic for me was easy to learn. For you you may see it as a blessing, to be able to control the wonders of nature so well in your own hands. Yet, as I say this to many of my students, it is easy for you to become lost in this power. You are eager to obtain this power...but for what purpose exactly? For me, I had no clear purpose on how I want to use my own talent, and I allowed magic to guide me...except it guided me in the wrong direction. Which was...not uncommon for someone studying the forbidden magics, the one you showed it to me."
Another pause, the master looked at Nash, quietly questioning his purpose. For most of the student this warning could have come much later, but...
He picked up the dark magic book. "This, is something you should never learn until you think your heart is strong enough with a clear purpose. Or else it will destroy you in the furture."

Nash listened intently to Shinji's story noting the foreboding tone that the master was taking with his story. It appeared that Shinji had come across some hard times that required the use of magic to survive. Nash could not relate in that sense. He knew hard times, understood there were measure that one had to take to ensure survival but magic for Nash, being a human, just wasn't part of his livelihood. For the master, it was easier to pick up.
Nash wished he could understand the use of magic better, he wanted to find a plausible reason for using it outside of chasing the ghost of his father. By this point he was almost certain his father was dead but he just couldn't give up until he had solid proof. Even as he tried to understand the warnings Shinji was giving him, he couldn't help wonder just what had happened to the master to turn him so grim toward a blessing such as magic.
Still as the book was taken from his grasp he watched Shinji closely, listened to his warnings and wondered about his current path. Would he be able to succeed in using magic? And even so, what would he use it for? He looked at the book then down at the floor honestly uncertain of what would come of his future if he continued this path. He opened his mouth to speak but nothing came to mind, so he closed it still thinking.
Eventually words did form as he moved closer to carefully retrieve the book again. "I will do my best. I want to learn but I don't want to be corrupt. Where ever my future takes me I won't run away but I know magic is the key to it all."

Shinji looked at the boy, seemingly to be searching for a piece of himself. The boy was enthusiastic about magic, just like the rest of the students wanting to get into this school. Yet...it was perhaps because of his past, his story about his father, that made Shinji felt somewhat similar to him. He could relate, thus he fear for the boy's future. Shinji would not admit that he feared his own ability to use the forbidden magic, but it was something he did not wish to tap his hands in again. Almost as an excuse he would say it was because of his promise to her.
But...it was good enough. The boy was determined, and determination makes one strong. the master sighed, "I certainly hope that you will. Keep searching for what you truely desire, and let magic be a true blessing to you." He reached out in an attempt to take the book back, but hesitated. Should he keep it away from the boy concerning his safety? He decided not to on another thought. The boy was not skilled enough to learn any magic yet, not to mention the forbidden ones. Sometimes, ignorance could be a good thing, too.
"But promise me that you will not use that book for any reason until your purpose is clear." Unsatisfied, Shinji added one extra caution.

Nash noticed the concern in Shinji's voice, the way he watched him with intense eyes. His eyes fell on the dusty old book for a brief moment before catching his gaze with Shinji. "I- I promise not to use the book. Until I am clear of my path and purpose. I won't use it." Nash spoke softly, his voice trembling. Something deep in his gut made him feel ill just then. Would he truly keep his word? His eyes fell to the book; for a brief moment he debated the idea of having Master Shinji hold on to it. However, it was his book now, his responsibility maybe even his burden. Taking a deep breath he let out all the strange feelings within him and managed a soft smile. "I promise to be careful." He reassured suddenly, holding the book close to his chest. He had promised after all. And a man was as reliable as his word.

The master nodded, pleased at the answer and the determination the boy gave off. "Very well, I shall believe in you." Shinji smiled a little. Did he look intimidating? If he did, at least it served its purpose. At this rate there was no need to take the book from Nash. If anything happens, he will just have to be prepared.
Shifting his position so he was sitting back more comfortably, the relief was obvious on the master's face. "Well, Nash." He started, "if you need anything else, do let me know."

A relieved smile burst onto Nash's features when Master Shinji sat back in his chair. He looked more relaxed which gave Nash a more relaxed stance. "I- I think I'm okay." He answered the nervousness ebbing away in waves. "It was nice talking to you." With that he turned for the door glad to have had such a talk but as he opened it he looked back to the master a small curious smile on his lip. "If there's something I need, do you think I can talk with you again?" His voice was small but he quickly burst into a fit of giggles rushing out the door. There was no need for an answer, at least not right now.
The youth was greatful for the bit of male bonding. It had been awhile talking with an older male. Maybe that's what it would be like with his own father. He didn't know but it still felt nice...
