Niyana laughed and nods as she slowly cuts up some watermelon and apples. "Yes I think that will do just fine...now we need to make a simple sweet sauce for them do you know where the sugar is?" She was very impressed with Ruque's willingness to learn. Soon enough she knew he would be a pro at the simple recipes. Maybe she should start looking into finding him a cooking school to go in.
Well there was no time like the present to test and see how he did as a healer. She took a deep breath and drug her knife over her finger. "Ouch!" she said pulling her hand back. "Ouch....Ruque do you know where the first aid bag is?"

Ruque stood in one place, moving in a slow circle, his eyes searching out the sugar. He had seen his mother using it before, he knew he had -
His eyes snapped back to Niyana as she cried out, cutting herself, and his green eyes grew wide with worry. "Mama!" he cried, running to stand beside her, standing on his tiptoes to see what she had done. "You cut yourself!"
He looked around anxiously. "First aid first aid first aid ..."
He bit his lip and looked up at her. "I don't even know what first aid means!" he cried, looking very much as if he were about to cry.

Niyana smiled, "Yes I cut myself...just wait right there I will get the kit and we can show you how to take care of small cuts." She smiled at him hopping that he would not faint.
She came back with a white bag with a small red cross on it. "Everyone should have a small first aid kit....it is a bag or something to put stuff in that will help fix wounds."
She smiled, "Now Ruque when someone comes to you hurt you have to be brave and try not to show your worry or fear, You need to help them be strong and brave." She pulled out a small strip to wrap her finger and some a herb smelling salve.
It was only once she was ready that she let Ruque look at the small cut on her finger.

Ruque watched Niyana anxiously as she went to get the first aid bag, and by the time she was back with it he had climbed up onto the table so that he could see better.
"First aid," he muttered to himself softly, his little brow furrowed in concentration. "Healing. Got it."
He looked at the stuff she was getting out curiously. This was the first injury he had seen, so he didn't know what any of this stuff was. When Niyana held out her finger for him to look at, he leaned over it thoughtfully.
"Should we wipe it clean first, Mama?" he asked, brushing his golden hair back from his face and looking up at her seriously. "Maybe use some water or something to make sure you didn't get any dirt in there, because dirt wouldn't be good."

Niyana was indeed impressed with her son. Most people would not think about cleaning the wound first. "Very good Ruque....there is a water glass on the other side of the table I will get that you get the towel so the blood and dirt wont spill every where." she smiled as she got up to get the glass of water and sat back down.
"Okay I am going to rinse it and you tell me if it is clean alright?" She waited until he had placed the towel under her and she poured the water over her cut finger. she watched her son looking for signs of if he was going to faint so she could catch him. She knew she was asking a lot of her son. And she would not blame him if he could not do it.

Ruque watched closely, leaning close to see if it was clean or not. He couldn't really tell ... the blood and water were mixing and making a mess ...
"Maybe we should wipe it dry," he suggested, looking up at Niyana, calm now. "Then we can see if it's clean ... because right now it's too wet to see, really."
He looked around for something to dry her finger with.

Niyana nods, "Alright well make sure what you dry it with is clean...and remember to be gentle when you dry." she smiled at him and watched him. "Look in the pack...there might be some pads to try it with.
She smiled just watching her son work allowing her blood to start to pool again.

Ruque nodded eagerly and opened the bag, his head disappearing inside of it, and then his shoulders, as he looked for the pads mentioned. He found something that he thought would work, though he didn't know that they were the pads Niyana was talking about, and emerged triumphantly with them, holding them high.
"I found something!" he said brightly, moving back over to Niyana. "This is good, right Mama?"

Niyana laughed and nods, "very good those are just the thing! Now remember be gentle with it you don't want to hurt you patient unless it is an emergency."
He must have a knack for healing after all he got it right. She smiled at him and waited holding her hand at a good level for him. "And after you fix mother's finger we will clean up and I will cut some new fruit."

Ruque grinned up at her. "Because it's gross to eat blood," he agreed, sticking out his tongue to show how yucky it would be.
Then he giggled and patted the blood away with the pad, gently wiping around the wound but not directly on it so that he wouldn't make it worse.
"Careful careful," he murmured to himself. "Can't make it hurt more ... pat pat pat ..."
And he kept on patting it, changing pads when he needed to, until the blood flow slowed and nearly stopped.

Niyana smiled and watched her son work. Yes indeed he had a talent with healing. He was not scared of blood or anything and he was very gentle. "That is great Ruque...does it look clean now? IF it does you can put some salve on it and wrap it up."
She laughed, "And no unless your a creature that eats blood it is not good in food."

Ruque looked up at Niyana and blinked. "There's people that eat blood?" he asked, his tone slightly fearful, slightly disgusted. "That's so gross! Plah!" And he stuck out his tongue once more, reaching for the salve.
"Why would people do something like that?" he asked her, putting some salve on his finger and rubbing it carefully over her wound. "Doesn't it make them sick?"
He reached for the wrap and started to wind it carefully around her finger.

Niyana smiled watching how perfectly her son worked the salve and wrapping. He was very good. "Well it is gross to us but to them they need it to survive. Their bodies are made to take in the blood so they do not get sick, but if they eat other things they will get sick."
She smiled and nods, "You are doing great Ruque I don't even feel the pain any more!" she smiled, "Well animals like vampire bats, female mosquitos and leaches drink blood. And there are some creatures I have never met that are humans who drink blood, they have many names depending on where they are from."

Ruque looked thoughtful as he finished wrapping her finger. "I guess there's a lot for me to learn about other people, huh," he smiled faintly up at his mother. "Not everyone is like us ... I keep forgetting that."
To be fair, he didn't know many people outside his own family, and he tended to stay home rather than go out and socialize.

Niyana nods "Yes there is always things to learn." She smiled and leaned down to kiss the top of his head. "One can never near all the things the world has to offer or teach us."
She smiled and looked at he finger. "Perfect job. I think we can get back to cooking and mixing some herbs for you dad's return." She smiled and moved to clean up the mess on the knife, and her cutting bored. "Okay now that that is all done you should wash you hands and then get the sugar."
