The First Day...

I really hadn't realized what I was getting myself into. My house isn't exactly set up to house so many children. Esspecially ones so tiny they can get lost. But this is beside the point.

I held the vase--I'd actually call it a pot, but whatever--in my hands, with an eyebrow raised. A vase... it was... different. I'd had rocks, feathers, eggs, but never a vase--and it was a pot-- until now. I resisted the urge to mess with the water inside of it and placed it on a shelf. One of my favorite children, Emerwe, came out of his little den on the shelf and sat next to it.

"I'll guard it, Miss Aru, don't you worry," he said with voice that was crisp, but had a hint of county life in it. I smiled and patted him on the head.

If this was anything like how my other children came to me... I was in for a ride.

...Just a vase

The Second Day

I was jolted out of my work by a set of yells. One was the standard, 'I WANT MY BLOOD WENCH!' from the newborn vampire angel--who was, sadly, also my son--in the basement. The other was a new one from the tiny, yet carrying voice of Emerwe.

"Miss Aru! Som'thin' happe'ed to the vase!" came the shout. I placed my pen down and ran into the room, to see it... reacting. I blinked a few times and got closer. I was rewarded by the smell of salty air and the sea. I checked the vase itself for cracks and whatnot, but it seemed to be fine. "Hmm.... I think I was warned about this... I don't think you have to worry about it, Emerwe, it should be fine." I patted him on the head and went back to work.

How odd... yet I'd seen a whole lot in my time, so it really didn't surprise me too bad.

... Just a reaction

The Third Day.....

Now... seeing little a little boy in a vase--I swear, its a pot. It's too wide to hold flower or anything in it. It's a pot!-- would normally be surprising to someone. I mean, little boys aren't usually in vases to start with. However, after going to bed one night with a white feather by your bed and the next seeing a rather nude little angel girl sitting on your bed, you get desensitized to the idea of strange things.

I'd seen a whole lot in my time... And this was just amazing. I'd gone into the room to get a book for some cross referencing a summons when I noticed it. Him, rather. He was hanging onto the rim of the vase, looking down at the shelf. There seemed to be a puddle of water there too.

"Why hello there, little one," I said softly, walking up to the shelf. He looked up and panicked, falling backwards into his vase. His tail flew up from under him and I smiled. A merman! What a lovely addition... oh... wait... that means I have to put in a pool... oh well... I giggled at his reaction. "Sorry to scare you, little one."

He blinked a few times, his emerald eyes wide. I noticed the scales around his eyes. Cuteness!!! .... Anyway, he smiled a bit at him and swam back to my side of his vase-pot.

"'Iya... Ya must bey mey Ma, righ'? Da oder one... Emer...Emew... Emer, said ya'd bey mey Ma," he said, his voice heavy with a seaman's accent. I nodded and picked up the little mer.

"I am your Mother, little one. Do you have a name?" I asked, holding him in my hands. He fit so perfectly, like Emerwe did. He thought for a moment and shook his head. I smiled and thought for a moment.

"I'll name you... Okeanos. It's Greek for ocean, since you remind me of the ocean," I nuzzled him lighlty and placed him back in the vase--pot. He smile and settled into his water. I watched him a while then left the room, when I made sure that he wasn't going to fall out of it.

...Just a surprise

A Year Later...

It had been a long time since I'd found this journal. I had to admit, I was negletiing it. But things had happened and people change, right? Not Okeanos, though. He's still that little boy in the vase. I was almost worried that he'd never grow older.

Emerwe left the house a few weeks ago, off to go adventuring, or something. He had said something about trying to find out why he had the Triforce on him. I wish I could tell him why, but there was no reason to do so.

Kepi... I'm not sure where she disappeared off to, actually. Okeanos doesn't know either. I moved him from his shelf to the table next to my bed. A lot had changed in a year. My beloved angel daughter moved out, or left, I'm not to sure. Emerwe was gone. I wasn't exactly sure about the vamp in the basement, but I wasn't about to check.

And then... there was that small, little chance, we'd be getting someone else. I had sent that application in after all. But if we did... it was going to get loud in this house again.

Okeanos stirred in his bowl, sighing softly as he looked out the window. Oh, how I wish he was old enough I could send him off into the pool in the back yard. Maybe he could even go see that other one... Naida, again. He seems smitten with her. Though... by the time he grew, it maybe too late for her...

Poor boy... I'm sorry I abandoned you for so long.

... Just a surprise
