How his fury burned, blazing in his eyes, boiling within him as if he would explode where he stood. His paws curled, talons raking into the sand, tail twitching in mounting frustration. Incoherent muttering fell from his jaws, mingling with the growls that echoed in his chest. Damn this infernal cub form, damn his brother for reducing him to cubhood again, and DAMN THAT LIONESS FOR KNOWING HIS WEAKNESS!
"I may look like a child, but that does not mean I am one! I'm older than you are!"
Snorting, he shot a last furious glare at her before turning his back, flopping on the earth with a growl in what could only be described as a childish sulk. If only either of them had known the true irony of the situation, that the very cub growling on the sand was the same beast who had sired the lioness watching him. Surely his rage would have consumed the Earth had he known how the gods of fate mocked him.
"I never asked you to 'adopt' me, you did that on your own."
Words barely a mutter, he flicked a stone that had dared lay near enough his paw. One might have almost thought there was an apology in his tone, a request that she not leave him. That is, had they not known the truth of motives. Infuriating, frustrating, how he was loathe to admit his reliance on another.

"Age has nothing to do with ability or capability, Tanaka." Ashling stated, shifting her weight as she responded to the cub's fit, expression quite bored. Not to say she was bored of her little white momento, but that it seemed as though she'd had this very arguement with him time after time after time. It was like trying to tell a little kid why they were allergic to something they really liked.
It made sense to her, but they kept saying the same thing.
Alas, though, Ashling was easy to fool. That 'apologetic' sounding tone in his voice was enough to coax her from her high place to come back to the cub's side, though not for the most pleasant of reasons. At least, they shouldn't have been from the point of view of any cub.
Alas, Ashling seemed quite keen on bathing the water she'd splashed on the boy out of his fur for him, wrapping a paw he could easily escape from around his legs and starting by licking the top of his partially-grown mane with a content purr.

He snorted in reply, choosing to ignore her for the moment despite the retort that threatened to tear from his jaws. There was far more to the small god than she gave him credit for. Cruel, clever, calculating, he had remained the warrior he had always been, he simply lacked the size to use all that he had once learned, the discipline of an adult form that allowed him to use all that he possessed. It was a concept that seemed beyond the mortal creature perched on that rock, and he had concluded it was pointless trying to argue with her. Or perhaps it was he who had not given her enough credit, no one could possibly be that clueless could they?
Or not--
With a snarl he had sprung upright, swatting at the lioness with a taloned paw as he lept away from her, glaring with that brilliant fury in his eyes. WHAT THE HELL?! Had she just -licked- him?! HE DID NOT NEED A BATH! And -if- he did, he'd do it himself.
"DON'T touch me"
Stupid creature, next time he would rip her tongue out.

She jerked her head away as he swatted at it, his claws getting the end of her maw and nose, which she seemed a little more focused on as she flickered her tongue out over her snout to ebb the stinging sensation even just a little, before Ashling settled down where she'd been previously trying to clean the cub up a bit.
"If you don't need me to help you out otherwise, then perhaps I should stop extending my assistance in feeding you."
Ashling spoke with a certain sense of flatness and a degree of a 'threat' she hadn't used on Tanaka before, crossing her paws in front of her in a sort of 'I'm a pretty princess' way some felines (and more canines) seemed to do. The statement was followed with the white lioness slowly rising up to her paws, arching her back partway up to stretch her back out, before taking several steps away from the cub to settle up by the pool of water again.
While she played at a facade of just drinking from the water, she was sneaking peeks out of the corner of her eyes to see how this would be responded to.

Green eyes narrowed, tail twitching in agitation, his gaze cold, calculating. So she was smarter than he thought, or at least she had some moments of lesser stupidity.
"Fine."
His voice was as cold as his gaze, his posture unmoved, eyes locked on the lioness as if he could read her, searching beyond the words that she had spoken into the depths of her thoughts. She was bluffing, he was certain of it, and he would not fall for it.
And yet, unlikely as it seemed she would go through all the trouble of 'adopting' him despite his furious objects only to 'abandon' him over something so trivial, there was always the chance that it had not been a bluff. Another snort, a step toward the water, though he made sure to stay just out of reach. He did not wish her to leave just yet, at least not until he was done with her and had had the chance to kill her himself, yet the alternative was intolerable.
Now he remembered why he never cared for minions, he had never had the patience for that delicate balance between abusive commanding and artful manipulation, at least not on a long term scale with such an irritating creature.

Of course, she smirked a little at her new victory, but did her best not to let him know of her satisfaction in his little 'fine', no matter how much he hadn't wanted to say it. Ashling 1, Tanaka 17. She was -totally- winning. At least she'd like to think so.
Perhaps it was a small cunning streak she'd inherited from the very cub she'd been calling 'son', for her own self-satisfaction. Yes, had she been forced to face it, she had not adopted Tanaka out of a completely undying desire to make sure he was cared for. Moreso she'd wanted to have someone 'need' her.
Which is about what she got by hunting for him, which was why, if he'd been able to read her mind, she'd have been caught in the 'I'LL LEAVE YOU' bluff.
Ashling looked over at him as he again distanced himself, sighing lightly, then going back to settle herself on the rock she'd taken to earlier, just to watch him. "Well, if you understand that, we'll leave when your done here." she stated firmly, a false 'authority' she was trying to maintain. Though it was quite obvious that meant she was waiting on what he wanted to do, yet again.

I hate you.
Though he had not spoken them then, the words were clear in his eyes, in the twitch of a paw, the flick of his tail. If only she had seen his thoughts, seen the vicious deed that was forming in his mind at that moment, surely it would have wiped that stupid smirk off her face once and for all.
Heh, stupid creature. He was the god of conflict, a cruel, unforgiving monster, he inspired fear and terror in even the bravest of creatures, and yet somehow she only thought he was 'cute'. Fine, let her think that she had won, even though she hadn't (not matter what she said he was NOT letting her touch him with her TONGUE!). Let her savor her 'victory', it would only make her that much easier to manipulate next time.
Unseen, a smirk spread across his maw. Reading her was getting easier, or perhaps it was that he was growing more willing to do so. She thought she was his 'mother' when in fact she was only a minion, a tool to be used for his own purposes.
And there it was, that malevolent satisfaction, the evil joy that came from using another, the joy of his domain, oh how he relished it. It was not so long to be patient, and for now, he was satisfied.
