Devakanya flushed as Taki stood in front of her. Briefly, she found herself wishing she had a voice, so she might thank the cat, but such wishes never got her anywhere good, so she caught herself before she started. Instead, she focused on what she could do; she could still thank him despite her permanent silence. She would do what seemed best; she'd seen it in plenty of romance movies Alexander absolutely refused to admit he enjoyed. (But he never changed the channel, so she knew he did.)

Devakanya leaned forward and pressed a quick kiss to Taki's cheek, just like any princess would do for her knight in shining armor.

Captain Alexander did not seem to agree. While he might have allowed himself to be settled by Calder's reasoning, this was getting out of hand way faster than he had expected it to. "DID YOU SEE THAT!?" he roared, panicky temper quickly getting the best of him. "No good boy, bewitching her like that. What is she thinking? This has to end," he muttered under his breath, doing his best to struggle across the deep sand towards the pair. Curse this blasted leg!

Taki's eyes widened at the kiss, and he turned scarlet, a grin creeping over his face as he stared at the ground, then glanced up at the unicorn girl, hand tightening around Deva's. And then he saw Alexander barrelling towards them, and backed up a little, closer to Devakanya as he straightened his back, giving him a couple more inches of height.

Calder strode after Alexander, and waved furiously at Taki to step away from Deva before he got himself in worse trouble. "They're just children. He doesn't mean anything by it!" And the sidhe knew that this was just trouble waiting to happen; Taki never really knew when enough was enough. He was stubborn and had a noble streak in him, the kind that the knights of the round table were supposed to have had. It was cute, but aggrivating in a case like this.

Taki didn't heed Calder's orders, and he only stared up into Alexander's face when the man had finally waded through the sand to them, his ears laid back against his skull, tail twitching furiously.

Devakanya knew better than to take Alex's wrath head on. She'd never taken the full brunt of his anger, but the unicorn wasn't really a 'rule breaker' or a 'rebel'. She did what she was told, and expressed any malcontent silently. It was the same way she expressed everything, so it wasn't a surprise when Alex would just grunt and shake his head, the same way he responded to everything. They were awfully stuck, huh? Good thing Devi had a friend like Taki to rock the boat. He was going to protect her, too.

Maybe he really was a knight in shining armor.

Alex scowled and waved a hand at Calder. What did he know? And where the hell was his pistol when he needed it? (He really shouldn't be thinking about threatening small boys with guns.) "Le' go of 'er, boy," the captain hissed, eyes gleaming. Damn limp. He probably couldn't even take the boy in a good wrestling match.

Devakanya glowered (probably for the first time in her life) and held onto Taki tighter. If he was going to be fighting, she had better give him her favor!

Taki was unfortunately uninformed of the wiser course being not to take Alex head on, and therefore only tried to stand a little taller as the terrifying man advanced. His instincts told him to flee, but his tail bristled and his ears laid flatter against his head, if that was possible. An involuntary growl was starting deep in his throat, rumbling through him.

And then he did what was probably the dumbest thing he could do in that moment. "No." Calder stopped a few strides behind Alex, palm meeting his face.

Taki was staring straight up at Alex, appreciative of the silent support from Devakanya, and followed up his blatant denial with another growl, lips pulling back to reveal his impressively sharp canines.

What did he think he was, some kind of tomcat? Alex had seen, and survived, far, far scary things, one of which being the fabled Davy Jones. There was a reason he was an ex-pirate, after all. He wasn't taking his chances on the deep blue, not with the odds so stacked against him. But that wasn't important now (even if the ocean was decidedly closer than he'd like).

Alex sneered and bared his teeth, and while pearly white (strange, for an ex-pirate), none-to-impressive. But the best was what to come. Balancing himself on his good leg, Alex shifted and swung his cane at Taki's head, fully intending to give the boy a good crack over the head. Nothing like a little corporal punishment when children started getting completely out of hand. He reached over to grab his daughter and pull her away, trying not to fall all the while.
