Uncomfortable with the looming silence, Neal shifted. He picked at his hair, fixed his leaf, tweaked an ear on his cat band, and crossed his legs. "So," he finally caved and spoke again, "what do you do for a living? I mean, assuming you do something. ! Not that you're unemployed! But... what do you do?"

Rocher cocked his head, rubbing his thumb over the smooth surface of the stone, and reached forward. He seemed determined to touch Mana somehow, and it appeared he wanted to touch his throat.

"Oy va voy," muttered Neal, glancing up to see Rocher about to molest Riulve's little boy. "Roch, no! No touch!"

Riulve stared at Neal for a brief moment before she turned her gaze back to the children, “I am a mercenary, a soldier for hire, pretty much. Though I do have a second job though it doesn’t pay me anything, often,” she said lightly. “What is it that you do for a living?

Mana just kind of leaned toward the hand going for his throat an absolute sign of trust, really. He ignored Neal’s admonishment. Worse came to worse his guardian would come to separate them of things got hairy ... Right? “F-Frieeee’nnnd?” Mana chirped curiously.

The white haired woman tilted her head and watched the spectacle, she trusted the other child not to be harmful. “Mana seems to be okay with it...Does he have a history of harming others?” she said this with a calm curiosity had not seemed at all concerned.

"I guess if Rocher doesn't kill him... I own a little café in Barton, I don't know you've heard of it? Café Amandine, it's near where the newspapers used to be printed." Grinning proudly, he elaborated. "My husband actually cooks, you know, and we serve authentic French cuisine, and most of our business is people who were in France before they made it to Gaia. Some people like it though, that haven't been outside of Gaia in their life! I mean, not that that's bad, have you been outside of Gaia before? Or I guess you could also have been born here."

Rocher felt the vibrations of Mana's vocal cord tickle his fingertips and frowned. He tried to indicate to Mana to keep talking, grunting as he touched his own throat to compare.

I doubt Rocher will do harm. I see no intent to do ill in his gesture.” Riulve said calmly with a shrug as she listened to Neal talk about his job and blinked a little turning her head to give the odd man with a blank stare, “I have not heard of this Fra-ntz.” She replied with a small shrug. “Up until a few months ago or so I wasn’t even aware of a Gai-ya or large metal transportation-things.” She said these things casually having had the time to get used to all these new strange things around her and now seemed unbothered by it. Culture shock seems to have lost its effect with her.

Mana blinked a little and thought for a moment and then said the word he has been saying thus far but much slower, “Fri-eeennnn-ddd-ssss.

"Oh! Of course," he laughed nervously. "Olivier came straight from 1943, you know. I mean, I came from... I forget when and where, I think I hit my head before I realized where I was. But you know, some people have the most fantastic stories. You, even! A soldier, it's amazing. You fascinate me. I mean-- Oh goodness, not that I'm creepy of course." He laughed, and shut his mouth, shaking his head.

"F-Frien'...s." Rocher blinked, surprised, and felt his own vocal cords again. "Frien's!" He grinned brightly at the other boy and scrambled to press his fingers to Rocher's neck. "Frien's."

Riulve laughed lightly as she raised a hand and waved it dismissively, “Do not worry, I do not believe you to be a … bad person,” She nodded as she added ,“in fact I consider you a friend.” She grinned in a friendly manner. “As for my coming here ... I landed in a fish pond, so your transport might have been more painful and much drier than my own then.” Riulve chuckled a bit.

Mana nodded encouragingly, “Yes! Fri-eeenn-nds.” This was fun! He felt the rumble of vocal cords against his own fingertips and gave a small cheerful laugh. “Good!

"Oh yeah!" Neal laughed, "I bet. Fish ponds. No, what I remember is falling, smacking my head on a rock, and getting picked up and taken home by Olivier. Nothing wet about it. Oh, that kind of sounded bad. Haha, whoops, that's just my mind going in the wrong direction." He cleared his throat.

Rocher's smile widened, his arms falling to his sides. "Frien's frien's frien's." He liked this new word and his newly made friend. He looked down at the stone, still clutched in his little palm. "Frien's."

Riulve was not well versed in innuendo and dual word meanings and so she canted her head slightly toward the side before she nodded and gave a small polite chuckle and a shrug, “Well, that is good.” She nodded to Rocher, “How would you feel about exchanging information for later dates for the two to play? They seem to be getting on famously.

Mana nodded cheerfully, “Friends, f’ever,” he replied almost solemnly as he clutched his own gift in his hand. The other boy had made an impression on him and gave no thought as to whether or not they would see each other again. For they would see each other again he was very certain of it.

"Exchange... yeah, totally! Yeah!" Neal grinned. "Of course, that'll be great. Um, my memory really kind of sucks, can I get it written on a piece of paper or something? Yeah, they're definitely looking good. That's cute."

"Frien's," Rocher laughed, scratching a gentle fingernail over the surface of the rock. He nodded too, ducking his head and digging in the sand.

From somewhere amongst her person she produced a small pad of paper and a even smaller pencil that was almost sharpened down to but a nub. She scribbled down her home address, directions, and a number she could be reached at, all in a neat legible script. She tore away the paper and offered it to him along with the pad of paper and pencil. “There you are, kindly write down yours as well.” Riulve smiled and nodded, she truly was more friendly than she looked.

Mana nodded and returned to his own construct for the moment, both of them being so limited on speech there was not a lot to be said between them. There was a pause before finally deciding it was better to get assistance he spoke up, “He-llp?” it seemed they had a small amount of time before they’d be separated.

"Here we are," mumbled Neal, tucking the scrap of paper under his headband. "Um, let's see." He mumbled to himself as he jotted down his address. "It's right in town, you know, so I think it's pretty easy to find..." On an afterthought, he also put down his cellphone number.

Knitting his eyebrows together, Rocher stared hard at Mana's creation. He grunted, shrugging. He pointed down to the sand, and then to one side of the sandy something.

Riulve leaned slightly just to watch him write out of her own curiosity and then nodding, “Thanks,” she replied. “Maybe I can invite you and yours over for a dinner some night or something, too,” she said thoughtfully as she leaned back and waited for her things and the information to be handed to her.

The small boy looked speculatively at the area that was pointed at and then gave a small nod going to work on that, managing to make a respectable wall (for a small child) from it. “Yah!

"Yeah, dinner would be great. Sometime soon," he grinned. "Definitely..." He murmured to himself absentmindedly.

Rocher grunted and scooped up some sand, depositing it near a fortifying wall.

Riulve offered a nod, “Call me to arrange it then,” she said as she stretched moving to stand up with a small yawn. “I think it is about time to go get supper started. Pleased to have met you and your child.” The woman had stood to her full six-foot-five height and peered down at Neal. “Don’t hesitate to visit or anything. We’re often just sitting about at home.

Mana glanced up as he finished with the newest wall and he dusted off his hands, he seemed sad. “I got’to go now, momma waits.” The small boy had pretty much heard what his mother had said and recognized the signs of his mother getting ready to go and that meant he had to be ready to go as well.

"Of course," Neal grinned. "It was great to meet you too. I um, yeah, I'll be sure to drop by." He smoothed his leaf down, and adjusted his headband once more, shooting a glance toward the two in the sandbox. "Great to meet you," he repeated.

"Frien's," Rocher repeated seriously, though he was still intent on the sand.
