Of course marching bands a sport! It's one of the most physically exhausting things anyone can do. You have to 1) Stay in step 2) March in the frickin heat of summer 3)Somehow stay hydrated without water 4) Carry an instrument, which is very difficult for tuba and bass clarinet, and 5) Do all this while nonstop playing your instrument! Holy frickin crap!!!

Marching Band is SO a Sport!
When you march, and you have to get your toes up, you get shin splints, just like if you were running or if you were in Track and Field!

Lets truly see if marching band is a sport.
By definition: Sport (provided by dictionary.com) an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature
What is associated with sports: -Teamwork -Practice -Injuries -Team Mates -Competitions -Uniforms
All of these elements can be found in a marching band and proves that a marching bands can be considered as a sport.
On a side note: Marching band musicians must have an physical ability to carry the instruments around as well as an athletic ability to march in formation with those instruments. Musicians also need to have the mental ability to read notes and keep time, both in the music and formations. Notice how the actual definition does not mention anything about a mental ability. I guess marching bands have something that no other sports have.

Ashokan Farewell OP, you need to work on rhetoric. No one is going to respect your argument when you make it like this. What are you, 13 years old? First, stop using numbers in place of words (2 =/= to, some 1 =/= someone). It would be nice if you could spell better too. Second, stop and think - realize that not every person on this forum knows what PE2 is and most of us didn't get any PE credits for marching band in high school. Furthermore, there are some middle school marching bands, so it's not true that you have to play for three years to join a marching band. Lastly, what does musical vocabulary have to do with whether marching band is a sport or not? Now that you've been stripped of all your faulty 'evidence', let's try this again. So, what makes a sport a sport? Competition, physicality, a governing body, recognition? One could point out that marching bands compete within circuits (governing bodies) before judges for points under scoring systems not too dissimilar from gymnastics. It could also be scientifically demonstrated that marching band is extremely physical (for example, see the version of this thread that actually made it into the correct subforum - here). Lastly, posts that look like someone puked emoticons are just annoying and no one wants to listen to someone annoying try to change their mind. [ ]All I can say is, bravo. Since there is an existing topic in the correct forum for this subject, this topic is now locked.
