The insult didn't do much more, the hornets nest was completely awake now and anymore poking was moot. He was perpared to wait forever, his family far from his mind. If nothing appeared, he might have seen like he forgot all about his family.
What saved Kayin, was the fact that there was a baby gazelle laying not too far from the cheetahs and its mother returned. The beast was not happy about the cheetahs near its baby, and was more emboldened then what was normally seen in thier type.
Kolo became aware of the trouble when he was rushed at. Leaping back, his fury was shifted and he bolted after the mother who lost her nerve. Into the distance, he chased the brazen creature, in the end spending his energy and living a foal orphened.

A sigh of relief escaped Kayin as Kolo bounded off, apparently deciding that the promise of fresh meat was more tempting than killing another cheetah. Still, the black-and-white cheetah remained in the branches until he was completely sure that Kolo was far, far away. Only then did he slowly---and clumsily---descend from the tree. Jumping into the tree had been graceful enough but getting out… that was a whole other story. Those claws, once again, were a bother. In the end, Kayin allowed gravity to do the bulk of the work and focused on landing on three out of four paws.
So… good points? Well, he had gotten out and met someone new. Sure, that ‘someone new’ also wanted to beat him senseless with his own spine, but… umm… Kayin caught sight of something tender and wobbly on long spindly legs. The antelope fawn, tiring of waiting for its mother, attempted to follow Kolo. That was pretty stupid, for more than one reason. One reason was Kolo. The other reason was Kayin, who was still very hungry. It turned out to be a deadly mistake for the baby antelope. Kayin was a lousy hunter, sure, but how good did one have to be when a meal was standing right there?
