Kurai and Mischa did not play like normal siblings should.

"Eeeeeee!" Kurai howled. Mishca laughed, and there was a strange sound of something splattering.

Spice sighed, looking at her reflection in the mirror. "Why do I put up with them again?" She asked herself soflty.

"Eeeeee!"

"BWA HA HA!"

Spice shook her head once more and opened the door, heading into the hallway. Just as she walked into the kitchen, something splatted down onto her head.

Silence.

Mischa blinked, tossing a ball of what appeared to be spaghetti in one hand idly. Kurai was busy trying to hide in his sweater. Spice slowly reached up, touching the splattered mess on her head, and brought her fingers down to see.

"...Why is there spaghetti on the ceiling, and on my head?" She asked softly.

"...Yeep."

"Yeep is not an answer, Kurai."

"Flying Spaghetti Monster." Mischa replied harshly.

"I don't see what Xenu has to do with-

"Flying spaghetti monster!" Mischa called, throwing the ball at her, then zooming out the door. Spice howled, no completely covered in goo.

"Kurai, I want this mess cleaned up by the time I get out of the shower!" Spice cried, heading back towards the bathroom. Great. Now she was late!

Kurai looked about the kitchen, grimacing up at the ceiling.

"I always have to clean up after her."

Perhaps the easiest person to speak to was Mischa. Spice gritted her teeth, cupped her hands around her mouth, and hollered up to the top of the house.

"HEY!"

"Nnnnh?!" A black feathered head poked over the side of the roof.

"I'm adopting a kid."

"...'Kay."

No questions, no worries.

Mom and Daddy were easy to tell as well. Daddy was interested in the specifics, of course, but Spice wouldn't tell him much. "Business secrets, Dad." She told him. Bob rolled his eyes, flipping his sunglasses back down.

"Feh."

And that was all the response she got out of good old Dad for a while. Mom had been happy, almost esstacic. She loved babies.

So, all that was left was to explain to Kurai. She foudn her 'brother' outside, humming lightly to himself, weaving together various bright bits of yarn in some sort of pattern. It looked mildly like macremae.

"Hey, I need to talk to you." She told him softly, squatting down by him. Kurai didn't look up, but had started to mutter softly towards his yarn. That was a good sign. Spice carefully reached over, trying to take the yarn out of his hands.

Bad idea. Kurai jumped up, mumbling agian, holding the mess to his chest. His eyes were downcast, half lidded, and looking anywhere but her.

Kurai and Mischa were both so strange, it was hard to beleive they were actually related to Mom. Mom was... Well, damn near perfect. She was happy and bubbly and loving, and she had been the perfect Mom. Mischa was rude and snarling and horrible, while Kurai wasn't there half the time.

"Baby." The word was sharp, surprisingly so. Spice blinked and pulled back. Kurai was glaring at her now, for once focused on her. "I heard. You yelled." Then, angrily: "I'm not stupid."

"I know you're not-" Spice said softly, reaching out again to soothe him. Kurai pulled away, mumbling under his breath. He gave her one last look, annoyed, and returned inside. Spice sighed, leaning back against a tree.

She'd lived with them for three years, and she still couldn't understand her siblings. Mischa was wonderfuly uncomplicated. In his more stable moments, Kurai would smile and say that with her, what you saw was what you got: Fangs and claws. But Kurai... Some days he was normal. He'd cook, he'd clean, he'd work with their father. Other days he would comunicate only in song, and he would dance about the house. And days like today, he didn't speak unless severley provoked.

That night, Spice was almost asleep when there was a knock at her door. She stumbled up and opened it, finding a little blanket weilding brother in the hallway. No words, he just headed for her small bed.

"Mischa out late?" No answer. She didn't expect one. Kurai appeared to be physically incapabale of sleeping by himself, so whenever Mischa decided to stay out terrorizing Gaians at night, she got a bed full of brother.

She somehow wondered how Mischa, who abhored softness, could stand having a Kurai cuddling her all night.

"We've been together since we hatched." Kurai mumbled, face against her shoulder. "Never apart. Your heartbeat is slower than hers. And you're softer. And smell prettier. But she never left me, even if it would've gotten her... it would've made things better for her at There."

There. It was how Kurai and Mischa both refered to the place they'd grown up as. Spice hadn't heard much about it. Mischa would growl if asked, and Kurai would just... Fade away.

"Would've. Would've made it better." Kurai said to her collarbone. "But she knew, so she never left me alone. Always... Watched by back when I slept." A long sigh. "You give good hugs. Like Mom."

Spice smiled. It'd taken Kurai a long time to call Pep 'Mom'. "Good."

"I'm not changing it's diaper."

"Wouldn't expect you to."

"I'll make it breakfast when it gets teeth."

"That's very kind of you."
