"I've heard a coyote - perhaps more - in the area. Thieves, wretches... preying on things and stealing that which isn't theres." He snorted following the tense tone. "And if not that, then a potential Skinwalker on the loose. I've had an inkling something has been in the woods nearby... but no solid proof on the identity."

He shook his head, flicking his tail almost whip-like a moment. "I will not have anyone here harmed if I can help it. I've been watching for signs of, well, anything." He shook his head. "Aside, I want to ensure thigns are safe for Glory, Silvance, and the others here, and any who come to visit. I feel it's a duty to make sure all is well at this place."

Vohamanah's wings lifted for a moment as his tail started to swish in his curiosity.

"So what happens if you find a wolf? Have some of your herd been attacked?"

Of course, the time hadn't come as of yet for fatherhood for Vohamanah. He hadn't crossed that path to understanding the valor of protecting those you care about.

That time was drawing close even though he didn't know.

"Well... I can help if you want. I'm not the biggest stallion ever... but for a cross breed, I'm pretty strong. I'm not the fastest, but I will give it all I got."

He tried to stand up as tall as he could in front of Kahaina. He looked up at him with a smile and a sense of respect and admiration. One day when he was older, he'd be majestic like that.

Kahaina chuckled in amusement, his eyes lit up with mirth - and a sense of pride. At least his grandson was willing to be determined and do whatw as needed despite the potential odds. "You have one advantage I don't," he said, stepping forward to carefully touch one wing with hsi nose. "You can fly, and get out of reach of harm. It'll be good for you, since you can attack from above if needed."

He turned his emerald eyes to the teepee not far away, where Saloli was busy at work on something. "The two-legger comes if I create a fuss - should anything draw near, and he can take down many things - or at least scare them away. A cranky bear came by once, and we chased it away." He seemed lost in recoolection a moment, and then shook his head. "I don't go out hunting the troubles because it's too dangerous to be alone, and some of the things out there are much more then I could ever hope to handle alone..."

He sighed slightly, flicking his tail again. "I still rememebr clearly the day that the Skinwalkers attacked the village of the two-leggers. It was a terrible thing, such destruction wrecked in one night. Many soquili were equally upst, and there were many accusations on who did it. Kalona were accused, but the truth came out - a new breed of evil had been unleashed. Even some Kalona seemed to be afraid of these things. The two-leggers were fearful - some at least - and I have always been alert for a threat of such since. I know something lives in the area, but... no proof of what. Corpses and blood - but evne the Kalona kill for fun and food, so I can't be sure, not having seen it. Or, it could be merely a wolf or coyote... but hoof marks at several kill siites lead me to believe otherwise. If it is more then a wolf or coyote, then caution must be exercized. I wish Silvance would listen to me more on that, but she's convinced I'm wrong."

Vohamanah gave a chuckle. Then he looked up at his kin. "With all due respect sir... I haven't really spent enough time with her myself to know better; however, based on the accounts of my parents of her. She seems like a strong minded kind of soquili. If that's the case, perhaps you can't tell her. Maybe she just has to find it out for herself."

He looked at the ground and sniffed the air. He hadn't ever really paid attention to those things. He flew around lots and explored a lot of land. Yet, for all his traveling, he never paid attention to the tracks.. and signs left behind of other breed of horse that were ill intentioned.

The idea of soquili even being out there that meant not only other soquili trouble.. but even the two leggers??? If htey didn't like the two leggers, why don't they just stick to themselves? This confused Vohamanah. Moreover, it greatly offended his optimism and his need to continue feeding and inflating it.

"Strong-minded is the tip of the iceberg with her," he said with a slight sigh. She takes more after your uncle, to be honest sometimes, yet she didn't get all that much time around him. Wonder if it runs in the family..."

He shook his head then, and walked to the edge of the clearing to look out into the trees. "Things will be as they will be - I've come to accept that and learn to deal with it, but it doesn't stop my concern for all those who live her, and travel to here. As I grow older I feel more ... responsible for those around me. I cannot sit idle and watch things happen if I can help alter the course for the better."

He looked to Vohamanah, seeing such a strong resemblance in the younger one to himself, and his own son who fathered him. "And, too, it is my nature to help and try to keep things at peace. I like calmer times, it's always been my way, especially after my own parents died. Thankfully it was not fomr an attack, but disease is no joke either. I am glad at least that has come and gone."

Vohamanah looked towards the way he had come from.

"Yes. The place by the river in the plains where we stay... It's so far out from everthing else. It feels so untouched by the rest of the world. You'd think that two-legger just sprout up from the ground one day, and she set to doing all her chores she always does."

He hoped within himself it would always be that way. Instantly of course, his optimism began to sing. ~Of course of course.. it will be that way. Just because all the world should fall to ruin; who would ever bring it so close as the footsteps as my home~

Kahaina laighed quietly, bemused by his grandson. The optimistic outlook was almost infectious, or at elast added cheer to the air around them. "Well, as much as I could think the same of mine, I doubt he sprouted from the ground itself. Though he does seem to end u colliding with it enough." He gave a slight grin of amusement at the statement, having seen his two-legger trip enough times in his time.

"There are many places which lay untouched by much, and those are wonderous to behold. Perhaps your grandmother and I shall go for a trip eventually, to take in the sights of the world. Perhaps. I do not know if or when, but mayhaps one day it will come." He nodded his head slightly, as though to affirm the notion.

"However, there is no hurry on anything, including introducing her to us. All things in good time. I have faith in you and all things turning out well."

((I hope it's ok, but i'd like to do a small time skip in which he left and returned?))

Vohamanah trotted back to this familiar forest outpost. A place he knew Kahaina would most likely be at if he were on watch; unless he had returned to visit his family. He blinked and looked around.

He really was in a mood of great need to be around his elders today. Sohalia had been gone for over a week. And, in her condition, his raging optimism was finding it hard pressed to flicker at all. Was it possible that something so simple as waiting could single handedly disarm his greatest personality trait? He couldn't remember anything else that had ever swayed his positive attitude before. but this.....

"Kahaina... Are you here today?" He looked for his grandfather. Surely, his grandfather would know. He would understand.

Kahaina flicked an ear hearing the voice of his grandson. It'd been a bit since they'd talked, and to have him return already put him wondering to why. Something must obviously be up, and he rose from his restful position. Today's day duty was on Zikeria, and she was gliding above all content right now to do circles and make an occasional noise. She'd already been aware of his grandchildren and to not divebomb on them, so all was well it seemed.

He strolled over casually, taking in the sight of his grandson. Very serious, seemingly different perhaps then their last encounter. He paused, bowing his head to Vohamanah. "I am here," he said, giving a toss fo his mane. "What's bothering you?" he asked, knowing the look of concern and distress, and the lack of optimistic outlook in the air.

Vohamanah raised his worried and longsuffering eyes to meet his grandfather's. Sleep had not been his friend since she left. The longer Sohalia was gone; the less he was able to relax. He finished trotting closer.

"Oh... Sohalia left a few weeks ago to go have the babies in a cave she found. She didn't want me to go with her. She insisted it was something she needed to do by herself. I must say that my optimism isn't saving me right now."

His tail swished quietly. His heart felt at least a tad lighter here. Funny, he thought to himself that this place would offer some measure of sanctuary to him.
