"Oh really? Pretty good you say? Well my dear friend Diego how would you like to put that reputation of yours to a test?" She cocked an eyebrow. That slight bit of tomboyish personality kicking in. Taipa was never one to really back down from a challenge unless it seemed an impossible task. Flicking her curly tail, she opened up her own little invitation for perhaps a little game. "I'm sure I could more than keep up."
She glanced at his wings as they stretched out a little. Taipa had never been envious of those that had wings. They seemed like a bit of a hassle to take care of and one bad landing could end up with a broken one. "So you'd just leave it on the branch then until you were hungry?" Stretching out her legs a little more, the mare prepared herself nonchalantly for a quick little game. If he accepted and she was sure he would.

She wanted to play? Right then? His eyes were bright and full of mischief. "You're on," he answered and now he did give himself a shake. Shaking off being slow, that's what he'd say if he was asked.
And then, while she was stretching, he popped over--a quick two-step jog--bumped her with his shoulder, and took off. He shouted over his shoulder.
"Tag! You're it!"

Perhaps she had expected his little cheat in the beginning of the game. To take advantage of the fact that neither of them had been called 'It' yet. Chidi often did that sometimes.
Scrunching up her face, Taipa let all her energy rest back into her hind legs. And in a matter of seconds she flung herself forward and took off. Hooves digging hard into the ground as she thundered across the earth. Curly mane and tail whipping back as her legs set into a steady rhythm. Now, if only she could keep him from cheating and taking off with those wings. "Not for long!" She called after him.

He had to cheat and use the element of surprise to his advantage because, at least on the ground, he wasn't very fast. In a few strides, she'd caught up and in a few more, they were shoulder to shoulder. Any second she could jog sideways, bump him and pass on "It" and dart away again. He'd have to work hard to catch her again.
So yes, he cheated. Probably didn't help that he was laughing as he ran. He did not, however, spread his wings and take off. That wasn't fair and, minor cheater that he might be, he did have some sense of decency. "That's what you think!"

"No..." Lowering her head to decrease wind resistance as she ran. Eyes locked on the prize. Taipa was determined as ever to make him it. She never liked being the one who was 'it' for too long.
As she caught pace with him, she jerked her body sideways and nudged his shoulder with her own. And in an instant she veered away from him, heading off in another direction."That's a fact!" The mare grinned as she cast a glance over her shoulder as she raced away from him. He was probably quicker in the air than she was. Well--of course he was. But she was still pretty fast on the ground. With or without wings.

He shouted a laugh and stumbled slightly sideways, losing precious time as she raced away. With a flap of his wings, he reared onto his hind legs and pivoted around to face the direction she'd chosen, but then he toppled forward onto his hooves again and dug in to run, ground-bound. Fair was fair.
"You didn't tell me," he called, "that you were this fast." He thundered after her. "Will it slow you down if I grab your tail?"

"You never asked!" She called over her shoulder once more. Catching a glimpse of him as he ran behind her, trying to catch up. Taipa jumped over a fallen log in her way, nearly soaring across it and her hooves touched ground again. She took off as if it had never even phased her.
The way was clear once again for now and she glanced over her shoulder again. Curly mane fluttering in her face. She flicked her tail a couple times. "Maybe. If you run fast enough to catch it." The beads on her bracelets clinked loudly together as she sped across the ground. Wasting no time in trying to pull ahead a little bit more.

She had a point. Diego was caught, so he tossed his head and let the motion shudder through his whole body as he ran. He jumped the same log, wings flared to catch the air before he landed and snapped them back again.
Then he pushed himself even harder. A little faster. Just. Fast. Enough, for one moment, to crane his neck and catch a curl of her tail in his teeth. He couldn't hold on for long, because it would pull too much and he wasn't interested in hurting her. Just playing. So he only held on long enough to tug once, lightly, then he let go and dropped back, laughing too hard to stay that close to her tail.

A shocked look over came her face as he tugged on her tail. Well, it seemed that if Diego was determined to do something he put everything into making it happen. Not a bad quality in a person. At least he had drive that's for sure.
Locking her knees, she skid and turned in a circle so that she stopped facing the direction she had come. Waiting to see which way he would take this time. She'd have to be sneaky about this next tag and if she did it right, it'd surprise him for sure.

Diego was prancing, back the way they'd come. Not racing, just prancing. Proud of himself, that stallion. So he picked his knees up high and bounced on his hooves, tail swinging side to side in showy counterpoint. He was still laughing, too, though he didn't look back as he called, "Taaag, you're it."

"Hmmm..." Taipa decided to use this quick little opportunity to her advantage. Hunkering down, she waited for just a second before springing forward. Putting all the strength and speed she could into her run. He wasn't running away, he was prancing. And before he could even react, she raced past him. Snapping her tail at his rump and running off. "Not anymore." It almost seemed like being 'It' never lasted very long. And being the chased never lasted very long either. Both of them were pretty good at the game. Maybe she'd have to step it up a notch.

Diego startled and hitched forward when he was swatted. "Caught again," he shouted after her, all but laughing the words. "How are we supposed to decide who wins if we just keep catching each other?" He kicked into a gallop after her, literally bucking his hind end into the air briefly. Oh, this was fun. This was better than he expected.
"How about a bet instead," he tried as he followed her. "If you can beat me from one end of the pasture to the other, I'll give you all the apples for yourself!"

Come to slower canter, she turned herself around. Stepping in place as she watched him approach. It was true. He seemed to be thinking exactly the same thing as she was about the whole game.
An eyebrow raised as she cocked her head to the side. A small smirk making its way onto her lips. "And what if you win?" He had laid the prize out for her, now what was it that he would want if she didn't beat him?

Diego thought about that, ears splaying to either side. If he won, what did he want? He'd gotten the apples in the first place. He could get more any time, even if they grew so high that other horses couldn't reach. He'd just use his wings and he'd have a treat for himself, so he didn't need more apples. No berries, no flowers, just...
His ears swiveled forward again. "If I win, you agree that you'll meet me out here again another time."

Was that all? It seemed simple enough really. She had actually thought he'd ask for something a bit more. But it wasn't too bad of a request in all actuality. "Hmmm, sure why not. It sounds like a fair deal." Glancing about, she walked over to a pair of trees that seemed pretty far near the edge of the pasture. A good enough place than any for a starting spot. "Ok then, we'll start from here, go to the other side of the pasture and back. Whoever gets back here first the fastest wins."
