From out of nowhere, a meat-headed little man stepped in front of Mock.

He wore a grin like one of the animals in those old books, from back when other animals used to exist in other forms than just preserved DNA. Hyenas, she thought they were called. He stepped in front of her. She tried to sidestep him, and he moved to block her. His eyes were wide, making him look...adlepated was the best word for it.

He looked stupid, basically.

He smelled of musky cologne, and too much of it at that. But the reek of cheap perfume did nothing to cover his hideous B.O. Humanity had made great strides in odor control.

Apparently, no one had told these boneheads.

"Move," she growled. No one grinned like that unless they were retarded, crazy or rapists.

And we can't have that, now can we? she thought.

Euphoric Ghost

"Speaking about super," he pushed his glasses up his nose, "I was wondering if we could file a comp-"

A soft beeping sound interuppted the working man. The ambient silence the complex hall and the trickling rain behind them broke to the sound of the communication device on his wrist. It began to glow a soft hue of red while a simple light monontone ringing beckoned him to answer.

(thanks for the clarification by PM--)

"A complaint," Samuel said without being able to help it. "Ack." He answered by transfering the call to his phone so that it didn't look so strange in front of the citizen. If it was a text message, it would appear on the screen of his phone. If a person was waiting to connect to him, it would be like a normal phone call.

"Oh, I'll file a complaint," he assured the man, "but in the mean time..." Well, actually, that depended on the call.

At the deca-mall...

"Oh, no we can't," said the short one as he clasped his hands together.

"We're here to look for some fun," said the one of the taller ones behind her.

"Oh yes, and you look like you're a fun girl," the third one commented with a slight tone of joy in his voice.

The three seemed to have done those lines for practice, but they have probably done it too many times. Each one of their lines lowing right through their mouths without delay. Like a scene in the stage of their lives, the girl was at their center stage. The next couple of scenes, that they've played out so well, may contain things that most people probably would watch: guns, sex and violence.

At the apartment complex.

"Good evening Officer Wallace." A calm but generated monotonous voice spoke through the phone. "A following is a direct message from Central (Headquarters)."

"There has been an altercation with a possible celestial in an alley nearby. The perpetrator was a robber who had just broken in a local pawnshop, stealing 1k credits worth of jewelry and electronics. Be careful, the perpetrator is a said to be a shadow manipulator. There are others who are already in pursuit, you are there to gather information from witnesses. End of message."

The message then cut off to the sound of soft static. 3 seconds exactly. It was the time that the processor in his phone to recieve the electronic signal that the message had ended.

((The blue type near the bottom is showing that inside it is actually pitch black, but it displays what Kurayami is doing, becaus ehe can see perfectly well.))

This is a waste of my time... He briskly turned and walked away, the crowd of others moving out of his path at his sharp glare. With each threatening step toward them, his boots made a heavy sound of metal against concrete, and every joint of his self-crafted, yet seamless armor shifted and grided. He sounded like a walking armory, and this scared many.

Moving into the dark shadows of towering buildings, it seemed though, that all of this noise ceased and he became a walking shadow. Very little of his skin was visable, but it glowed in any form of light.

Moving swiftly through the narrow alleys, Kurayami found his way through the slums to a deserted alley. There were no boxes and no trash cans occupying it. It could almost be called clean, though not spotless. A large steel door stood in front of a tall, windowless wall. The door had no handles and no working hinges, and seemed set into the ground.

As he approached, Kurayami moved his hand as though opening the door, and at two metal plates that seemed to seal the door to the wall, it bent open, revealing a large passageway into the wall. He stepped through, and motioned his hand again, sealing any shread of light outside the door.

A long hallway expanded before him. It was completely empty, and seemed ot narrow and shape as it continued. He moved forward without missing a step, the darkness proposing no obstacle to him. He came to another steel door, one of which had a handle, though. He opened it and stepped through, closing it, too, behind him.

He moved to the center of the room, where a string hung down. Pulling on it, a small light dimly illuminated a room that was no bigger than a small hovel.

There were cabinets in one corner that obviously held food items. In the opposite corner was a low-lying bed with a shabby quilt on it. In the middle of the room there was a table and chairs, obivously self-crafted from metal that had been found around the alley. In another ocrner, a make-shift pump was set up, that was routed into a water line, supplying a constant source of fresh water. In the final corner there was a stove-like area hat had to be started manually with fire. Everything was low-tech, but conviniant and it supplied Kurayami with what he needed.

He moved to the bed and sat down. Moving his hands slightly, his armor opened in the back and he slid the chestplate off. A well-toned white chest and muscular arms were exposed, shining with sweat. He also removed the leggings and boots. It was now apparent that the armor was actually in three parts, but melted into one when one. Now only wearing black boxers, he moved around the hovel to the kitchen area, taking out a synthesized apple and biting into it. Though the taste was lacking slightly, it was of higher quality (he cannot afford it, obviously, but steals whatever he needs) than some of the synthesized food around, and satisfied his hunger. He took another package from a different container, and took a box of matches from on top. He lit the fire and set a pan on the grate above it (both self-made), and got a bowl of water from the pump. He then dumped the water into the pan and added the contents of the package.

Finishing the apple and tossing the core into a trashcan by the door, he layed on the dirt floor and began doing quickly-paced sit-ups as his dehydrated synthesized food cooked on the fire. Beads of sweat gathered on his forehea,d and after roughly 100 sit-ups, he took the pan from the heat and dumped another bowl of water on the fire. Steam sizzled upward. He poured the contents of the pan, something along the lines of a soup, into a bowl and set it with a spoon on the table. He took a metal cup from one of the food contained and pumped some water into it, finally sitting down to eat.

((I got a little carried away... sweatdrop ))

Samuel grumbled to himself and stuck a piece of paper to the woman's door with his first name and his cellphone number. He stalked off without paying the citizen he had been talking to much mind.

He had passed the pawn shop on the way to the old lady's place, so he didn't need to call up a map or any other information from his gadgets. Sam liked doing this kind of work, where he could calmly (hopefully) gather information about an incident after the fact, but the old lady would have been more of a bonus for him-- assuming she knew any thing. This robbery thing, well that just happened to involve a celestial. he didn't like being redirected once he had set his mind on something, but here he was. At the pawn shop.

First he stopped someone on the street just outside. He didn't want any witnesses getting away, and the owner would probably wait for the police inside the building. Man, for a moment he wished that he had dressed in a uniform so that he didn't have to flash his badge around all the time. "Excuse me, Sir. There was a robbery here just a few minutes ago. Did you happen to get a look at the robber?"

(am I looking for -TS- Alex's character or another celestial?)

((I hope you don't mind me taking a couple hops with these NPC's, Ghost. It's nothing big. Just PM me if their like immune to Mock's powers or whateer. Mwahaha.))

"You know, actually, I'm a real bore," she said nervously, trying to subtly slip past one of them. Mock knew what was coming, and she didn't want to wait until the last minute.

She concentrated on everything around her, excluding, obviously, herself. She felt the small-minded consciousness' of the suited muscle bags. "Don't you think I'm boring?" she asked, pressing the thought into their minds. It was a small trick, and if she was slight, she didn't think anyone could detect her. It was for self-defense after all.

But, on the other hand, liberties were her specialty.

"And besides," she continued, feeling their resolves weaken about wanting to take her, "wouldn't you rather have fun with each other?" This she forced on them with a higher magnitude than the last one, forgetting her qualms about being gentle. She practically heard them forget about her and turn their small attentions upon one another. "Oh yes," she said, watching them look hungrily back and forth amongst themselves. "Yes, you'll have lots of fun. Go on, get out of here. Ya morons," she grumbled under her breath.

((Pen: It was another celestial, but TS' character was around. Artemis: It's alright))

At the alley...

"Oh yes, I saw him." A bum coughed and hacked as he replied. "He was a tall sonnab*tch."

The bum was an old man wearing several layers of clothing, seemingly a collection of various shirts and jackets he had collected in the street. The top most layer was a cheap plastic raincoat, still a little soaked by the rain. His face was haggard and wrinkled, barely visible by the beard that he had grown. He did smell of rain and sewage.

"It was hard to see him. It's like the lights. Well more like the shadows seem to hide him. He was more than six feet, and built like a basketball player. His skin is dark an' he wore lots of pleather. Like the natives in the ol' westerns."

((And the following is for TS'))

At another alley...

A knock echoed through the the empty hallway. A light tapping which was slowly growing in strength of beating drums...

((Ghost, is your character this Tong Qing Yuan guy? It doesn't say in the char. profiles. I just want to be sure.))

A few days after the little stunt in the deca-mall, Mock was feeling cocky. She'd hidden out in the tunnels under the city after using her powers to such a degree. She feared being caught, and so was more careful than usual.

But after a day, with no apparent repurcussions to speak of, she started fooling around.

She'd been stealing genuine organic food from pricey shops, mentally convincing the managers she'd never been there.

She was staying in nobles' houses, jumping on their cushy furniture, playing their Compo games and swimming in their indoor pools. They didn't even remember she'd danced about on their dinner table at a fancy-a** banquet!

She'd stopped a thuggish guy from beating on his little girlfriend, and took a step further as to turn the girl's self-confidence up a notch or two.

And since nothing was happening to her because of those things, she was becoming a little too confident, strutting around the East side and doing as she pleased.

After all, she figured, what was the worst that could happen?

((Edit: I added a little something since Ghost hasn't posted yet. Heh.))

Kurayami heard a faint knock echo through the passage into his home. Setting the spoon in the bowl and picking the cup up, he carried himself, though still in his boxers, out of the room and through the heavy door into the dark corridor until he finally came upon the front "door." He took another sip from his cup, and motioned wiht his other hand as the door silently opened outward at the metal attaching it to the wall. "What do you want?"

(For anyone who's seen the Harry Potter movies, he talks much like Snape in the way where everything sounds harsh and smooth at the same time, many times said with a sneer or frown.)

Jay sighed as she opened her eyes. Staring up at the cieling from her sprawled out position on her couch she decided that she couldn't make it to bed and this would be just as good as a place to sleep as any. Unlike most celestials who hid out in foriegn places to avoid being caught Jay had a very nice apartment in a middle class area. She was positioned on a couch that sat against the far wall opposite the small kitchen that was seperated from the sitting room by a row of cabinets and tile flooring. At her feet was the corner of the wall that opened up into a hallway with two bedrooms, a closet, and a bathroom.

The place she lived wasn't a consequence of her own hardwork, it was a lot of her father's idea. He payed for the first month's rent and ever since then Jay kept it up and for christmas or birthday gifts her father would stop by and pay the rent for a month or two. But lately she wouldn't let him pay. He would stay longer on the holidays and spend most his time questioning the people and friends she associated with. Often he would put most his efforts explaining how he was a registered celestial and there was no harm done to him and that she should do the same. As Jay sat staring at the ceiling she could invision him going through a lengthy speech on the subject and as if he were actually there she replied to the empty room, "Like hell I will...."

((Artemis: Purty strong character there, PM me some of the things you would do especially when doing things out of the ordinary 'cause it'll catch the attention of people. ))

Somewhere.

What was the worst that could happen?

A lot of things.

In a very tight and populous city, it was easy for people not to know their neighbors or most of the other citizens in the city, save for the rich, the famous and the infamous. There's a tale of an elderly man who had died of a heart attack in one of the city's railway system for hours before anyone really noticed he was dead. It very is sad that the last remaining people of the world are like ants that wander and work.

But technically stealing from shops and tresspassing the homes of the rich is an act bound to be seen. Especially in a high tech city such as Andel, Big Brother is watching everyone. There was enough evidence and footage of a young girl seemingly walking out of shops without paying. Putting the two scenes together was going to take atleast two weeks to find out that it was the same girl. Andel Government Special Agency was another story.

There's atleast one agent tracking the girl...

At the other alley...

A silhouette stood in front of Kurayami's door way. He had a small afro which just stood inches from his scalp, a gaunt but athletic build and a bag hanging on his shoulder. He was the criminal who had easily slipped away from the cops. It seems like he wasn't easy to slip away from anyone.

"I saw you," the criminal replied with a smooth tenor, "We are the same."

His reponse was very short, but he wanted to communicate by showing a trick. Shadow, in its intangible glory, slowly seem to rise from the cracks and holes around them. Floating globs of darkness began to move and swirl around them...

Kurayami took another drink from his cup. His narrow eyes followed the orbs, and he soon returned them to the man before him. "You think we are the same?" He finished the water in the cup. He had no interst in this man, and would kill ihm off if the opportunity and need so presented itself to him. "You are the man the police were chasing before." He easily took control of the moving orbs of shadow and threw them at the man. "You are of no interest to me." His eyes narrowed and his lips tightened. He was not amused by this interruption. "If we really are the same, you would have no toruble entering my house without knocking, which I know you would have no fear of doing, scum." He added the last word after a momentary pause. It was nearly spat out with a feeling of disgust. "Do you come to me for protection? Company?" He sneered, and without even waiting for a response, added, "Because you really do not know who you have come to."

"And you've never seen him around before?"

"Which way do you think he went?"

Once the Sam had gotten all he could from the witness, including a name (probably fake) and a picture from his cellphone (not fake), he proceeded into the store, expecting to find a disgruntled shop owner and go through about the same process.

((Ghost, I'll change this post if we come up with something in the PMs and I need to. But I just don't want to hold you guys up or whatnot.))

Mock had been aware of peoples' minds around her since she was small, and she'd learned very well to control the voices and push them to the back of her mind, where they couldn't trouble her daily thoughts, couldn't distract her from what she needed to do to survive in the ratholes of Andel.

But she was always acutely aware of them, even if they weren't at the front of her mind.

And recently, just after she'd become more bold with her powers, she'd felt the company of someone strange in her mind. They weren't probing it, they didn't have that power. But she'd heard them thinking about her, listing the things she'd done in their head. She wouldn't have taken notice of the person if they weren't whispering her deeds and features in their mind over and over again.

But they'll never catch me, she thought. You can't catch me if you can't keep your mind on me.

So she'd begun, every night before she curled up in whatever loathsome or plush location she'd picked, to concentrate on breaking their focus, making them forget about her momentarily. Throwing a wrench in their train of thought, so to speak.

And she was toning down the things she was doing, she still stole food, and the only difference from the rest of her life was that she was now stealing it from more prominent business'. She had stopped going into nobles' homes, and instead just used her telekinetic power to covertly steal the keys to vacant apartments.

That should throw them off, she thought.

Sometime early morning...

At the other alley.

"Heh," the criminal crossed his arms across his chest while holding the bag of loot in his hand, "We're more the same than you know..."

He flashed a grin and revealed a clean set of pearls. His canines were sharper than most people and the rest of his teeth were nearly as intimidating. His lips seemed to stretch inhumanly broadly, but it was an illusion of sorts due to his oblong shaped head. The little light behind him revealed the dark shades which hid the whiteness of his eyes.

"Your loss." The criminal turned and started walking away... the metal door creaking slow to close. "See ya bud."

At the alley.

The answers from all the questions were the same with little variety; he was tall, he was dark, he had an afro, he wore pleather and was very much like a basketball player.

"Yes." The owner of a shop was a woman early in her late 20's. "The robber was built, well more like wiry."

Besides the pawn shop's cage being bent open and literally ripped open, the shop was fairly empty and clean. It was new. The woman had just set up shop in the neighborhood after a little soup restuarant had moved to a deca-mall to get more money and business. The western district wasn't the best place for restuarants, but it may serve well to a pawnshop. Stolen property and weapons would most likely be its most valuable items. The owner was new to this gig. Atleast now she'll have use for weapons she acquire, but like most building today, it had a security system up already.

"Here's the video feed from the store camera," the woman pulled a little disk from her pocket and slipped across the table, "It's weird only a few seconds to the see the guy, then it all went dark. The cameras are fairly new, and I got it checked, nothing's wrong with them."

User Image

At a vacant apartment.

The minds of many just seem to flutter and whiz by with their thoughts in her head. Most were very trivial things and a couple of personal thoughts that many seem to share. In an apartment complex, there was quite a lot of people that surrounded her. The complex' were very much like hives were workers live and sleep, then just buzz out of there to work. Their thoughts were of a better tomorrow, a good sleep, and fatigue.

Thoughts about her seem to be dying away and were becoming faint.

Then there was a light knock on the door.

"We know you're there." A gentle voice reverberated from the door, but something was unusual with it. "I have come to retrieve you. Do not try to escape. Resistance is futile."
