Just like everyone else here has said, bring lots of water. My first band camp experience was actually cold and rainy which is the opposite of what it's supposed to be like at band camp all the time so I didn't have to actually worry about that. Still, don't forget the water. Remember to take everything seriously when practicing as whole or in sectionals (if your band has those, which I'm sure most do). Like said before sleep whenever possible. Also, if time allows I would take as many showers possible because if you're like me you sweat a lot and people won't want to be near you if you smell like sweat. Eat whenever you can, but don't eat too much. You'll probably burn off a lot of calories. Lastly and most importantly remember to have fun. Band camp is meaningless if there are no memories to hold every time you go. Even so, still take everything seriously. Good luck!

Something most people don't think about, depending on your instrument might be important.
My section (mellos) all use school instruments, identical, so we have coloured ties and ribbons and stuff that we keep on them during practice to tell them apart. Might be worth it if all the instruments look the same.
Also, make sure you've got marking time down. I know that most freshman have trouble with marking time, but it's the easiest most essential thing to have down before you ever show up to band camp.
Finally, bring a bag to carry your water, sunscreen, valve oil, valve greese/petrolium jelly, and charts. It helps and it's easier to march with a bag than to carry even just the waterbottle.
Have fun^^

Everyone keeps saying "Wear a hat". Make sure the hat is a light color. Somebody in our band was wearing a black hat and wound up getting dizzy and running into a wall, and she wound up passing out.
Also, get a binder for music/drill charts. Wear lots of sunscreen and light colored clothes. That's especially important where I live, in South Florida.
Good luck Freshie!
Mellophones are...BALLIN! =]

i know that everyone has said it already but
WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER! YOU NEED IT!!!!
OTHER little things that can be important: comfy shoes that you don't mind getting sweaty/dirty/or completely ruined (specially if your school was like mine and your not aloud to march on the field because of the football team. instead you got the parking lot) light comfy cloths, a bandana or a hat because sweat in the face SUCKS, sunglasses for amazing sun glare, you can never get enough of that, DONT' FORGET YOUR HORN, MUSIC AND OTHER IMPORTANT PARTS OF LIFE! THAT WOULD BE BAD!

water obviously
try to keep at least one band director/instructor/captain/drum major in sight at all times, so you don't miss any important instructions
get the strongest deoderant you can find. bring it with you and put some more on during dinner/lunch break. or any break that you'd have time. if it's a short break just go straight to ur water.
if in colorguard, bring a roll of that black tape (forget specific name) that they use on equipment. not nessecary, but good to have.
stretch before you show up.
eat good. bananas, spaghetti, peanut butter, fruit ect. eat it.
sounds stupid but, go to the bathroom before you go to band camp. you do not want to have to go really bad when someone says jazz runs.
be helpful where you can. like if your in colorguard you can roll up other members flags when ur done with ur own. (unless they're like really protective and won't let anyone else touch their flags.)
giving any attitude to anyone is like, NOT GOOD!
