Instinctively this time Chaka turned her head in the direction they were clearly set in. Shade, oh, good, because she wouldn't mind a rest at all. In the swamps the sun was hardly quite this bright and intense, and there was often plenty of shade to be had for protection. Chaka wasn't weak to it, but it did tend to make her sleepy, surrounded by so much warmth. In fact, just now she let out a soft purr at the prospect of catching a quick nap in the shadows of the tree branches, and all too gladly settled down at it's base once they reached it. Despite her groggy state, though, she did puff a bit at his question.

"Actually I think that I take the most after my mother. She's amazing!" Chaka replied with no little amount of fondness. "My sisters' coats are mostly brown, except for the youngest ones." She finished, waiting for Zeus to join her as she dropped her chin onto her paws, eyes easing shut.

Following at a more sedate past, almost holding back till she had settled herself, Zeus took his time looking about, even as he secretly watched her from the corner of his amber eyes. Every line of her was lovely and he counted himself a fortunate male. How to cross that line though, between fondness and desire, would be the sticky point.

Ah well. He could wait till the opportunity arose, since he really had no where to be and was enjoying her company. No doubt things would change afterwards, as it inevitably did, and he was in no hurry in that regards.

"Your family sounds lovely." He said when he joined her in the shade, making to lay beside her before changing his mind at the last moment. Swerving in his path, he went to the water instead, crouching low to lap up the cool liquid. It was soothing, easing his thirst and returning to him some of his usual vitality. "I believe your mother is a wonderful being, if you take after her in any way."

Chaka couldn't see him, but she followed his movements with her other senses. She heard and felt him draw nearer, but change course at the last moment. She heard him at the water's edge, quenching his thirst, and only relaxed further as she paid attention and caught the sounds of the moving life-liquid. So soothing, even if she wasn't drinking any herself, just being around it reminded her of home, as did the shade she was in now.

"Mmm... she's very wise, and very beautiful. I can't wait to see her again and tell her I found my true name. I hope it's soon." She sighed softly, lazily peering over at the darker male. "Honestly, just between us, I'm happy if I can live up to become half the lioness she is. I know I have to find my own path in life but, I look up to her so much, she was always everything I've wanted to be."

Zeus smiled as he turned from the water and walked up the bank to join her in the shade, water drops falling from the starry mass of his mane to make dark spots in the dirt.

"I think you will learn to be as great as she is, if not greater still. Cubs often grow to be better than their parents, since they often take what's best of both sides with little of the faults." His shoulders rolled in a shrug as he moved behind her, sinking down gingerly to settle on the ground beside her. With his head by hers, they could still talk, but the position made the conversation so much more intimate.

"I, myself, shall never know if I outpaced my father, but I have a loftier ideal to live up to, one I relish the challenge of." He grinned as he said it, not put off in the least that is was a god he was trying to match.

"But if that's true, wouldn't mortals start birthing gods after so many generations?" Chaka laughed softly, the sound far from mocking. She was taking his idea and expanding on it, thinking further down the line and wondering if this was true, what he said. Ocassionally there was a corruption, surely, or how else could you account for the fact that there were psychopaths and self serving rapists and murderers out there in the world? Surely that wasn't taking the best of anything, but only the mental or psychological faults...

Her laughter faded almost immediately, relaxed, and with a subtle shift she was suddenly using Zeus for a prop as she unwound gradually again, seeping his warmth despite the fact that the sun had plenty to share. She'd come from a large family, she missed sleeping in piles of limbs and bodies, she missed her litter mates.

"I'll have to remember to put your theory to the test, though as their mother, I'm probably bound to be biased to start with." Her eyes slipped shut again before she spoke those words.

A low laugh broke from the male, his teeth flashing. "And how do you suppose gods were born, hmm? Hypothetically speaking, of course, but it does make a sort of sense." He fell into rolling chuckles, his tail gently twitching.

And suddenly there was weight against his side and he stiffened, though he caught himself before it disturbed her. She was so warm and soft, a substantial weight without being an unpleasant one. Well, that was a step in the right direction and encouraging. That she could relax that much with him was quite a balm to his pride and he felt his chest swell a little with it. Unlike her, he was unused to sleeping alongside another body. Even the females he occasionally entertained didn't tend to stay long and for the most part, he slept alone.

Another chuckle slipped from him, softer this time. "I think any child of yours will be half divine already." He murmured, his smile softening as well as her eyes closed. They looked so damn cute like that... if he'd had a heart made for love and not just pleasure, he might have felt it tweak at the sight. If it did, he brushed it off. "With an angel like you for a mother, they already have a wonderful start... I confess to jealousy of whoever gets to spend their nights with you and father your children."

"I've heard a lot of stories and legends. Some of the others I've spoken to say that the gods used to be mortal just like us, but befell some tradgedy, heartbreak, or another, and became immortal as a reward or a trade or something along those lines. The only one that I haven't heard any variations of is a goddess named Mkodi, but no one really knows anything about her. I've only heard her mentioned once." From a passing bird of prey, a hawk who went by the self declared name of "Rio". Seemed rather knowledgeable about the gods himself, who knew why?

Suddenly a flustered and sheepish, but still somewhat soft laugh escaped her and she tensed a little, but fought the panicked urge to draw away. Oh, but, again, if lions could only blush she'd be red in the face right then.

"Oh, I don't think I'll be lucky enough to have children of my own. Maybe if the pride ever does find new blood, but, I'll be lucky to find a name of my own out here, let alone a mate."

It seemed like thinking in any other order would be wrong. Would it? She'd only vaguely entertained the idea of having a love of her own one day. It was easier not to think about it, or what she would eventually be missing out on.

"I know many stories about the gods. The featured heavily in our teaching stories and for entertainment. They go by different names outside the pride, but they are essentially the same, I think. Most of the gods of my tales were born as gods, only one or two gained that status through their great feats. I think it would be a rare and difficult thing, or we'd soon be over run with godlings."

Zeus felt her tense and relaxed himself to try and coax her down again. He had been enjoying the touch and didn't want to loose it so soon. "I don't think it so hard to find a mate... with how many lions there are in the world. And it would be even easier to have cubs of your own. You just have to set your eyes on a male and say 'you are the one I want'. Its as simple as that. I don't think any true male could deny you what you want, my angel." His voice had dropped to a warm rumble, more affection in his tone now.

Her mind was still racing over his last words when he replied to the godling conversation. He had planted a seed in her head that simply wouldn't go away now, the idea of children, that is. She felt that she was far too young to have them yet still, though, maybe one day. She was finding it harder not to allow herself to be seduced by his words now, however, flattering as they were, and dare she admit that she was developing a little crush?

No. She did not dare.

"I'm sure that it would be easy enough to find a male to want to lay down with a girl," She sighed, staring at her eyelids so that she didn't see his face, and thus could avoid feeling her heart skip, as it had just a few seconds before, when he'd referred to her as an angel, and his at that. Why did he have to say it in THAT tone? It was just KILLING her now. "but I want something that would last longer than a few moments under the stars. If love was that easy to come by then the world WOULD be overrun by little ones, and not just godlings."

She didn't draw away, that would be far too obvious, but she did shift her head on her paws so that he couldn't see her directly so easily now. She couldn't exactly explain why she had the sudden urge to test his theory, not about children outdoing their parents-- but the one about simply telling a male that she wanted him and some male would just wrap himself around her paw. It could never be THAT easy.

He chuckled again, feeling less mirth than the sound suggested. She kept dancing around the subject, the little tease. Did she really want him, as it seemed, or was she still out of his reach? It looked like he'd have to wait and see, much as he hated that. He could be patient, he could!

"That's very true, and if you think about it, you would indeed have more than just a few moments. You would have a precious memory to hold, an entire night and an experience to guide you in the future. And if luck was with you, cubs as well. Isn't that reason enough to give into temptation and allow yourself something precious and wonderful?" His voice was softer now, almost wistful. Zeus almost seemed to be talking to himself too, more than her.

He glanced over as she lowered her head, getting a nice view of the back of it. She looked nice even from above or behind, he really had to admit to himself.

"I can assure you that a night with me would be more than just a night as well..." He dared to say as he lowered his head, his mouth moving just above her ear.

Her body bristled at his last words while her mind was still staggering to process the first clearly (She couldn't believe she was actually HAVING this conversation with someone! Let alone a male she'd only met less than a month ago!), and a very unfamiliar warmth began to pool in her stomach at the images he was putting into her head. They weren't THOSE kinds of images, but images of a family, and little ones running around, and, damn it, he was really doing a number on her and her body again went aflush with embarrassment, even if she didn't show it visibly.

Chaka withdrew, drew back and away to stare at him, head turned back and eyes open again. Was he serious? Was he actually suggesting-- asking, what she thought he was?!

"Z... Zeus?"

Her voice was soft, but held a pitch of surprise.

The moment the male felt her stiffen, he leaned subtly away, turning his gaze out onto the Savannah in case she looked up at him. He didn't want to push it, not if she disliked the idea. Face blank now, he stretched his paws out before him, flexing his paws into the dirt. He had thought he'd read interest in her voice and feel, but maybe he'd been wrong.

"I was only stating the obvious, Chaka. I'm an experienced, well adjusted male... I know how to have a good time, that's all. Holding myself up as an example of sorts." He tried to shrug it off, taking her stammer as rejection. Not that he was resigned to giving up... just figured his chances today where blown.

"... Oh..."

What was wrong with her? The girl was a roller coaster of emotions, she couldn't make up her own mind, but was very sure that it was disappointment that she felt now.

"Sorry..." She settled down again, head on her paws once more, but this time she didn't lean in. She'd read his own reaction, his blank expression, as possible annoyance or maybe he thought she was childish and naive for the way she responded. Despite being grown, she really did feel that way at the worst of times, and often wondered when or if she'd ever grow out of it? Resisting the urge to sigh, Chaka tried to let her thoughts die down. She'd done enough damage for one day, THAT much she was certain of.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 07, 2008 4:22 pm

Zeus blinked at her soft apology, turning to her and shifting closer to place a paw against hers. "What do you have to be sorry for? You've done nothing wrong. If you wish to approach me, I shall be waiting for you, but I will not force myself on you if you're unwilling." He shook his head as he gave her space again, though not as much as before. Close enough to approach easily, but far enough that she could ignore him if she wanted.

What more was there to say? Things were awkward now. He could let it go and hope the chance came again, or push forward and hope he didn't drive her further away. He prayed she gave some sign which way she felt, it was like he was walking on egg shells, trying not to break them.

Chaka remained silent as he pulled back and moved away, struggling with herself, weather or not she should dare risk speaking up again or if she should leave well enough alone. She couldn't stop herself from doing it though, and the name blurted past her lips just as it crossed her mind, too sudden for her to take it back but just fast enough that she almost wondered if she'd spoken at all.

"Zeus...?"
