"It's safer there," He said in way of explanation. It was far easier to survive in the jungle than out in the open savannah, where the eyes of a thousand predators watched at every turn. Duzi had to admit, though, it was more fun out of the shade of the jungle, where there was room to run about.
"S'better than being dead," He said sagely. He had discovered one day during his musings that being dead really did suck as much as his mother made it seem, and that being alive, no matter how dull it was, was still better than lying dead under the sun being devoured by scavengers.
The thought made him shiver in disgust. When he died, Duzi was not going to be eaten by bugs and birds. He was going to die in a river and be carried out to sea. Yes, he most certainly was.
He considered the lion's suggestion for a while. "Maybe I'm still too young. When I'm older, perhaps." He bobbed his head slightly to himself. Getting out a bit, as the lion put it, and learning more. Much more about the world than he did already. That seemed like a wonderful idea.

Safer?
The silvery-eyed one grunted and stalked forwards. He was in full lecture mode now and nothing was going to stop him. Cassian was not a smart lion. He wouldn't know how to talk himself into trouble or how to win someone over with words. He was more likely to talk himself into trouble than anything else. Thus, he shouldn't really have been giving a lecture. But he was self-righteous, liked to think of himself as right even when he wasn't.
And as he drew closer the cub came into focus, that brown fur. Those dark spots. A leopard. He realised then that though they did both look similar there were subtle differences. He'd never noticed those before. Wonderful, now he couldn't just go around assuming everyone was a lion.
"Safe? How do you know it's safer? There's bad things in there too, you know. Me for one thing. I ain't a good lion and as far as I'm concerned, my family aren't all that pleasant, see? My parents arguing. My siblings running through the trees. You can't escape danger so why not damn well face it head on like I do? Besides, I been around and I ain't run myself into no trouble. Yah gotta use your smarts, see?" He puffed out his chest to make himself look bigger and glowered down at the leopard with his empty looking eyes.
"I'm scarier than anything I've ever met and you ain't run away yet." He curled a lip. "Must mean you've got something going for yah."
