There was little hint of emotion on the war horse’s face. Again, he was rather indifferent about the matter called family since it was not something he experienced a lot in his younger days. As a foal, perhaps he did cry about it but how could he cry about something he didn’t really know about? After all, he had always been alone. There was one figure who was sort of like family to him… but he didn’t even remember their face anymore.

“I never grew up with family really so I don’t really have anything to be sad about if I never had it in the first place.” His words, though even in tone, brought about a harsh reality that he’d seen day in and day out during the war. In a terrible way, he was almost glad that he had no one to truly more over because the grief he experienced was an oppressing weight, one that he didn’t want to familiarize himself with if he could help it.

But, that didn’t mean he was totally against the idea of family though… But that thought was for another time.

Tuli did her best to understand, but she failed miserably. She could tell that the topic bothered her more than it bothered the stallion though, she didn't want to talk about it anymore.

Her wings shifted, her feathers ruffling slightly as she looked to the ground, shuffling her front hoof along the ground for a moment. She didn't know where to go from there in the conversation.

"I appologize, Knight. I didn't mean to pry so. Sometimes...sometimes I just forget to stop myself." she snorted to herself under her breath. She wanted to ask him about the war, she wanted to hear stories like her father use to tell her. She didn't want to pry any more though.

The war horse was quiet for a long time as he raised his armored head towards the vast, clouded sky above. He didn’t say anything for a while but he was clearly thinking about a number of things. He’d never been asked if he was lonely as a war horse by any other of his subordinates. The only one who ever asked him that question what that woman… But even she was far away from him now.

“I’m fine living as a loner,” The stallion began with his head still pointed towards the sky, his emotion was unreadable. “This is the way I’ve always lived my life and I don’t plan to change it any time soon considering the path that I follow.” Quietly, Knight lowered his head and gaze downwards to look at the young mare with understanding eyes. “However, even if I must travel alone during most of my life, I am not truly alone”.

The soft silence of the trees around them brought back vague memories of Knight’s foggy childhood. Before his donned his armor, there was a distant time when she had found some peace and fun… He was glad that he hadn’t forgotten all of it yet.

“In one’s life, there are many encounters. And eventually, one begins to build a bond with some of those encounters. Through those bonds, memories are created. Even if one were to live alone for a long time, in their hearts, they would carry on the memories of those they formed bonds with and, in turn, the other half of the bond would carry the memories of the other.” Knight looked at the young mare with slightly bemused eyes. “I suppose that’s what a sage would say anyway.”

She looked up as the stallion began talking, her ears pointed and alert to listen to his words. He was wise, and in a way to her, his words made sense. She supposed that only those who traveled like he did, would truely understand their meanings though.

"So it's like traveling with ghosts...sort of.." she knew that wasn't -exactly- what he meant, but she couldn't think of any other way to phrase it. She wasn't as graceful with words as her father. "Who do you talk to when you're alone though?" Tuli couldn't imagine traveling far without having someone to talk to. She was always happier when in the company of others.

She had never run into a soquili that lived so much different than her. A problem that probably rose from her staying so close to her own family. She'd never had the courage, or reason, to travel too far from home. One day, eventually she would leave...perhaps.

He never saw himself as a wise or sagely figure. Go figure that he had to tendency to unintentionally give that kind of advice, even to his subordinates. “Heh. I suppose so,” the war horse replied, again, quietly bemused by the comment of ghosts. Funny that the young mare should mention such a thing, especially since many had considered him a ghost on the battlefield… Odd coincidences he supposed. But, then again, there were no such things as “coincidences” in the world… That one taught him that…

“Well, in place of companionship, I enjoy listening to the voice of nature. Its quite enjoyable if you take the time to listen…” Now Knight really felt old for saying that… The old ones that once took care of him as a foal used to say something similar… The comment suddenly made the stallion feel his age, much to his own annoyance. However, he kept that to himself.

His words fell gently onto her ears, she stayed silent for a moment, soaking them in. She just wouldn't be one to understand the lifestyle of solitude.

She took in a deep breath and just stood there. She didn't know what to say in return to his comment. She enjoyed walking alone some days, but not every day of her life. She just couldn't imagine that feeling. She understood that he accepted his lifestyle, it was just another difference between her and the war horse.

She stood there quietly as the breeze began to blow, twisting the feathers that hung from her ear. She turned her eyes to the sky, the sun was beginning to lower. "I should really be getting on my way, Sir..." she knew it wouldn't be long before night fall, and she didn't fancy traveling alone after dark. "Perhaps we'll meet again?"

Red eyes gazed up into the sky, noting the vanishing light. Knight could sense that Tuli was having problems fully grasping his words. A faint bemused look crossed his face as he looked off into the distance. His world was very different from the average civilian life… And he had often wondered what it’d be like to live a quiet life… but such thing would probably be too difficult for him at this point.

“Very well then my lady,” Knight replied softly with a bow of his head. “I believe that we shall meet again one day.” With that said, the war horse turned and walked off silently, lost in thought. He had considered escorting the mare back home but… part of him needed time to think and gather up thoughts before feeling fully relaxed again. However, he believed in his last words. He believed that they would meet again.
