"Then try again!" Manny commanded, not willing to accept defeat on his first idea without even one try, "If you just give up, the only option will be to leave you here and wait for you to lose enough weight so that you can just walk out. But where we're growing and mom and dad would notice you weren't at home.. that might not be such a good idea."

Now holding onto Kanelo's tail, Manuku braced himself and pulled when his brother tried struggling again. He was ready to get out of the way, and as soon as Kanelo came stumbling back towards him, Manny jumped backwards. Again, he hit his head.

"Oww!" he yelp-growled, taking a couple steps back, "Are you OK?"

A lion in motion stays in motion until he hits a wall. That was the new physics law that Kanelo decided must be created, since it was so obviously true. At least in this case the wall wasn’t very far away. If you’re going to hit your head, it might as well be from a short distance, right? Kanelo blinked a few times, trying to make the pretty stars go away. Oh, sure, they were lovely and in many different colors, but so distracting! Especially for someone as easily distractable as he was. They cleared soon enough, and were replaced by Manny’s voice.

“Yeah, I’m alright, Manny. What about you? You ok? I know you hit yourself a few times.” If he got his brother hurt, he would never hear the end of it from his parents! He would be grounded forever! Or long enough, anyway. That and he really did care about his brothers and sisters. “Hey, at least we learned something,” he said, desperate to find a bright side of things. “At least I learned that this is not a good place for a new den.” There always was a bright side.

"Ugh," Manny grumbled when Kanelo assured him of his wellness. If Kanelo was OK, then it was perfectly acceptable for Manuku to start worrying about his own head. He didn't want to imagine how scrambled his brains might get if they didn't get out of this cave soon, so that was top priority.

"I'm fine, let's get out of this stupid cave," he said, getting up and backing out slowing since turning around sounded like it would be a really bad idea. He didn't say another word until he was outside once again, blinking through the blinding brightness of the sunlight.

Well, Kanelo supposed that ‘ugh’ was a good enough answer to ‘are you ok’. It answered the question well enough. Knowing that he was partly responsible for his brother’s injuries, Kanelo kept his mouth shut, deciding not to point out that they hadn’t explored the rest of the caves yet. It was pretty obvious that neither one of them could really fit further down the tunnels anyway, which was sort of important as far as exploring the aforementioned tunnels went. As he stumbled into the bright sunlight, blinking blindly, he stumbled into his brother.

“Sorry… it’s hard to see out here, isn’t it?” A few more blinks and his eyes cleared up a little, at least enough to make out Manny’s silhouette. “So… this would be a bad time to ask for advice on how to tell Dad, wouldn’t it?” Yeah. Some grand adventure this turned out to be. He meant to go out and find a den so he could prove to Dad that he could last on his own and, instead, he ended up getting his butt stuck in an old cave. That would really show them.

Yelping when Kanelo ran into him yet again, Manuku dropped to the ground and lay there quietly until his eyes adjusted to the bright sunlight again. It wasn't too hard, but looking at Kanelo while he adjusted wasn't such a good idea- the bright white fur, while dusty from the cave, was quite the eyeful. Blinking once more, he smiled at his brother.

"Not really a bad time," he replied, shaking his head, "But I don't know what kind of advice I could give. We'd have to find someone who has moved out from their home before, or you could test it out for the rest of us."

Manny grinned. If Kanelo successfully got away, the rest of them would know what to do. Or what not to do.

“Yeah, great idea. I could be a test bunny for everyone else,” Kanelo reflected before sticking his tongue out. He didn’t want to be a test bunny! He just wanted to know what to do so he didn’t screw this up! Well… actually, maybe Jasiri would be a better source of advice. Manny clearly had never thought of moving away, but Jasiri might have considered it. Maybe he would have better ideas on how to tell Dad. Or he could always find someone else who left their family…

“I don’t know anyone who’s left their family. Well, except for Dad. And I don’t think I could ask him for advice on how to leave him and Mom.” Wouldn’t that be perfect? ‘Gee, Dad, I love you and all, but I’d kinda like to get out on my own. Do you have any advice on how to tell my parents?’ That would go over really well. He sighed and looked around, still disappointed that his first official venture out of the den had turned out like this. “Well, let’s go home now. I’ll think about this.” At least, he would think about it until something shiny or glittery wandered by, at which point he would forget all about it.

"That's right," Manny said with a chuckle when Kanelo stuck in tongue out at the idea of being test bunny for the rest of them. Someone had to do it, someone had to be first- and with eight of them around, there was bound to be some others waiting for their chance to get away on their own.

"Hmmm," he thought about it, "I don't really know anybody except mom and dad who left family either. You might just have to figure it out on your own." Manuku got to his feet when Kanelo decided they should head home, not a bad idea- he was comfy just laying around, but that would be best left for at home.

"Ok," he agreed, heading for home, "and if I think of anything helpful, I'll let you know."
