Hello~ :] Looking good so far, but here's some of my thoughts.

Kale, first off, probably should be able to go through things. I mean. He's a ghost. Its what they're known for, right? Invisibility is also another power to consider, but if you do this I think it should take the same amount of energy as it does for him to touch living/non-ghostly things.

Now, as for the Essences and Soul. The Soul worries me a little for the fact that there is already a piece of amber acting as an Essence (to whom, however, I don't recall), but I believe it's a piece of amber with a small insect inside, and the amber seems to keep growing inside of the vial. Perhaps go with another form of fossil if you're bent on something prehistoric.

Essence wise, I'm not sure how exactly they count as Fel Essences. What a Fel Essence is, is basically something that should never exist by the laws of nature, a perfect example being Roux's Essence, the Eternal Ice. Now, as a suggestion, perhaps instead of a chip of a meteorite, though I know this won't fit quite with your current theme, perhaps a bottled comet tail or a piece of that same sedimentary rock that either never erodes or becomes dust with a single touch. Something like that.

I think you've got a good theme going, though, I don't believe we have any fossilesque essence or souls yet, and the ghost should be a lot of fun, but be sure to think him out thoroughly and above all, don't let him outshine the Raevan!

Thanks Snoof and the Essences are something that I am still trying to work it out..

Kale: I will consider looking into those thanks. Haha, about the outshining I know, I can't let my OC outshine my Raevan. ^o^

Soul: Hmm, its interesting and it really isn't Amber for the soul its the thing inside the Core of Amber is what it is called, but I will check into it.

Overall! Thanks so much, the critique really helps iron out some of my details I was either A) looking over or B) leaving out. Thanks!

Hey =D Here's some more and hopefully it will help you.

The Essence, firstly the Hefty Pollen. I'm not sure that this will be considered a Fel Essence as it is just wet, pollen stuck together. If you really want to use it, you got to give it some magical qualities to make it stand out from other pollen that got stuck together in a storm.

Now, the soul. Since you are considering the soul of a dinosaur that was preserved in the amber, it should be okay. Even if you are considering using the amber as the soul, I don't see a problem as the Rose has been used as the soul (Vyn) and as a Fel Essence (Lucretia) but it is still best to check with Kyou.

I think because you haven't thought of the description of the Raevan, the owner is currently more interesting than what you have now so like what Snoof said, tone it down a little, don't let him outshine the Raevan.

Thanks Fwee!

Hmm ya the Hefty Pollen is an idea I am trying to collaborate to give more of that magical pollen, I am just trying to figure out how.

Hm, I can see where you are coming from with the Soul and I will in due time. My main obstacle is coming up with an interesting way to present the soul instead of outright having it there, which may be the best thing to do.

Once I get the Fel in order I plan on moving on to the Raevan description, which honestly I have no clue how to describe just yet. Thanks!

Update!

June 14, 2008 : : So I've changed which Fel I am after, the Hefty Pollen has been retired and Magnetic Root takes it's place on the stand. When I get the time I will replace the CRITIQUES box with the Raevan information. Also made the font more readable!

Thank you Snoof and Fwee for Critiques.

Agenda!
- Add Raevan Information
- Update Home Info/Soul Info
- Create Banners
- Ask Kyou about my Soul

I'm in the mood for critique giving at Lab, so I figure I'll do your quest for now. I break stuff up into sections so it's easier to read.

-Firstly, I see you're questing for a semi custom and currently have 10mil in gold as your marker. Just so you're aware (and if you already are, I apologize) Kyou has stated that semi customs will cost at least two Minis in price. Looking at the lowest price for Angelic Mini's in the MP, that's 56mil for one alone. Multiply by two and you're going to have to quest 112mil for a semi custom. Looking at the Demonic Minis price (60mil lowest buy price in the MP), it could fluctuate between 112mil and 120mil depending.

-Second, Fel Essences. Your Intoxicating Stargazer is interesting, but I don't think it has to be a specific flower. You could just call it 'Intoxicating Blossom' or something and that would be fine. But whatever. About your Bottled Scent though, Peachymint is, I think, already questing something similar to it. You might want to take a look at her quest thread, just to be safe. Also, it kinda makes me think of perfume or smelling salts, scented vapors that are in a vial or bottle.

-Soul. Dinosaur is an interesting choice, but why that particular one? I don't think anyone's questing a dinosaur, or any extinct animal for that matter, so you could have taken your pick of the original T-Rex rather than one of his lesser known family members. There is one major thing that irks me about this though and that's the idea that it is cryogenically frozen in ice. The term "cryogenic hibernation", better known as "suspended animation", is the slowing of life processes by external means. If your dinosaur were frozen in such a way [which, honestly, isn't possible since the Ice Age took place AFTER all of the dinosaurs were killed off] then this would insinuate that your dino is, mysteriously, still alive. This simple fact would make it a Fel Essence instead. A giant, un-bottle-able Fel Essence. Plus this would mean a giant, flesh eating monster will be running around at some point and I'm sure we've all read/seen Jurassic Park to know that's not a good idea.

-Raevan itself. Pretty fine for what you have up until personality. You say his personality will reflect his soul. This cannot happen as it's the Fel Essence which says what the Raevan will be like and this includes personality wise. I'm sure the soul can influence the personality in small ways, but it cannot effect it overall.

-Guardian: I have no real qualms about him except when it comes to his age and occupations. There's no way someone that young could be a head research director for a high-tech laboratory and a director of a museum. No way. If anything, he'd just be getting out of grad school and probably be on the middle rungs of the career ladder, not at the top. Plus, I can't see a man running two directing jobs for two different places that have nothing to do with each other. That would require a lot of different schooling and he'd probably still be only middle rung. Besides that, when is twenty-eight considered "middle age"? Also, you say he dislikes 'overly cheerful people', but in his personality you say he's a very cheerful person himself. That's a contradiction.

Intoxicating Stargazer is a nifty seeming essence. Basically a person can become drunk just by smelling it? Fascinating!

Your Bottled Scent at first sight doesn't look to be an essence since scents are already bottled i.e. perfume. Yet, looking at it again I can see promise as I believe you are trying to convey the idea that the scent never fades in strength and such. But I dunno about the whole concept of making the vial empty since the Divine Song was drawn like that. So maybe change the name of the essence and give it some sort of form even if just a vaporous one.

Your soul I like very much. A cryogenicly preserved dinosaur is such a cool idea!
PostPosted: Sat Jul 11, 2009 5:09 pm

Ravina: I could change it simply to say his body is frozen in it and not kept alive, my original idea was to have the animal and it's soul preserved in Amber but there is an idea too close to this already. I understand your judgement on it being alive though, thank you.

Also thank you about prices on Semi-Customs I was unsure, so I just put a random number ^^;

About the Stargazer, I understand, it seems reasonable just to make it a blossom or orchid.

About the Bottled Scent, thank you I was unsure whether anyone was questing it and hadn't had time just yet to go through it.

Thank you over all, your critique will be applied.

Ebony: Thank you for the critique, it was much appreciated.

Greetings and salutations. A revamp, is it?

I'll skip the fancy stuff and get right down to it, shall I?

Essences

Kanove
[ Primary Choice ] Intoxicating Orchid: Though it may look to the stars and glow in moons light this small flower gives off a scent that will ensnare even the best senses. With the intensifying odor every sniff will draw you closer and closer until the addiction is almost life-threatening.

* The storm granted this plant an intensified scent that surpasses anything nature can produce.

Nothing really wrong with it but I noticed that you agreed with Ravi's point of making it a nondescript flower but changed it from a Stargazer to an Orchid. And Orchid is another type of flower, not a synonym for flower.

Kanove
[ Currently too close related to other Essences to be my Primary ] Bottled Scent: There appears to be nothing in this vial but once uncorked a sweet fragrance permeates from the test tube. It is an odor comparable to a fresh field of flowers and never seems to fade no matter how long the vial remains opened. This is a beautiful scent that, contrary to nature. was able to be bottled and lasts even though its source has long since died away.

Again, nothing outright wrong that I'm seeing [besides what's already known] but I'm a little concerned about this pattern. There's only two Essences and both of them are about scents. Now, I understand having a theme going but, honestly, it's pretty bland. One Essence being like that is fine but your entire [current] repertoire being filled with it is exceedingly boring.

If you had to go the smell route, maybe you could make the Bottled Scent something foul like Swamp Gas or something. At least then there would be variety but as it stands, it just seems like a strong smell pattern that doesn't differ between the two except for the form; the end is exactly the same.

That said, it makes me a bit concerned for the Raevan's powers. Have you thought about those yet? What could a scent actually do, both Passive and Actively? Granted, there's no real reason to find out about powers until later but it would still be a good idea to begin brainstorming, even if nothing's concrete. I can't see a scent, however interesting, doing very much for the Raevan itself.

Now, onto the Soul

Kanove
Discovered in the 19th century in a quarry by it’s workers. The dinosaur is around 2-3 meters high weighing in at just over a ton. The dinosaur is a meat eater with the personality like that of the T-Rex.To get more information on the Dryptosaurus go here.

Extra:
*I say the T-Rex as it is more well known, the Dryptosaurus is only a smaller earlier form of the T-Rex.

*(Possible) Cryogenic State: The true extinction of dinosaurs is unknown but I am presuming that one could have been trapped in ice long ago, dead or alive, and if caught in ice while alive most organisms are believed to enter a Cryogenic state, or deep sleep.

*Influence: Rough appearance and mean and violent personality.

"The true extinction of dinosaurs is unknown but I am presuming that one could have been trapped in ice long ago, dead or alive, and if caught in ice while alive most organisms are believed to enter a Cryogenic state, or deep sleep." Most specifically concerns me.

The exact date of extinction and even the exact reason of it may not be known, but it is known as as clear a fact as we can manage that the dinosaurs were dead before the Ice Age. What does this mean? There's no reason, at all, for a dinosaur to be frozen. A fossil can be worked with, that is, encased in rock, but your original idea about it being in cryogenic stasis within the ice has a lot of faults without dinosaurs being gone before the Ice Age.

1) Dinosaurs are reptiles. Reptiles are cold blooded. Without external warmth, they get very lethargic, sick, and can die without sustaining a good, hot temperature. This, alone, negates the entire possibility [minute as it is] that a dinosaur would be able to survive for billions of years encased in ice.

2) While cryogenic stasis has been toyed with by humanity, there are NO RECORDS of it actually happening in nature.

3) Necessities; food, liquid, oxygen. Cryogenic hibernation slows the body's processes like digestion, breath, etc without terminating the body. However, there is no way it would have enough food or anything in its stomach to last billions of years. Even if it did manage to get encased in ice, still living, its nourishment would eventually run out and it would die of starvation and dehydration. Bears splurge on food for most of the Autumn and even that huge amount only lasts them the three months of Winter.

Moving on, the Raevan

Kanove
User Image
Raevan

Combinations, both provide the same touches except changes in appearance

[Preferred] Intoxicating Stargazer / Dryptosaurus (or Tyrannosaurus Rex)
Bottled Scent / Dryptosaurus (or Tyrannosaurus Rex)

Personality: His personality would be more alluring than most if the Intoxicating Orchid is chosen, for his ability to draw people in would be intensified. With a hypnotizing voice and luring movements the Raevan could be quite popular, and dangerous. *Has the ability to be brutal if angered
Gender: Male

More Coming Soon.

Don't really see a problem here, though it is greatly lacking in detail. There's only the personality for the flower and not the scent but they're both so similar I guess it isn't even worth mentioning.

Name: Dr. Reese Clyde Chandler
Birthday: February 29th
Age: 34 years old (Looks late 20s, early 30s)

Race: Human
Ethnicity: 2/3 Cherokee, 1/3 English (English Accent)
Body: 5’11” height, slightly-athletic, tan

Appearance: Dr. Reese is a middle-aged man who dresses quite professionally for his job. Normally in black slacks, a white shirt and lab coat many don’t find him in much else, even in the museum. With his medium length black hair and dark eyes his expression is normally subtle to somewhat excited. (Picture Coming Soon)

Personality: Reese is a happy man when he wants to be but most of the time he is really nonchalant and quite unemotional. He always offers a giving hand when he sees fit but most of the time stays two tied up in his research to pull himself away from it.

User ImageProfession: Leading Reasearcher for a Labratory/ Museum Director

Likes: Research, Traveling, Art, Music, Unknown
Dislikes: Overly Cheerful Individuals, Snakes

I'm going to be blunt.

Very, very, very blunt.

This man is a walking contradiction, as well as a hypocrite, and his job choice is impossible unless he was a certified genius.

I noticed you up'd his age a bit from what Ravi told you but people can only retain so much knowledge. If he went and had schooling for both of these jobs [science and history are two VERY different things, though they can be used in tandem] he would likely only get the base facts from it all. As the saying goes, the average person only uses 10% of their brain power. I'm sure he's quite smart, but he can't be that smart.

Job Opinion: Pick one or the other; you can't have your cake and eat it, too.

His age is bugging me; you list him as in his thirties yet he's still "middle aged". Thirties isn't that old. The length humans can live is a lot longer now, though there was a time when thirties was considered middle aged or even old. Not anymore. Fifties is middle aged. If anything, he'd probably be going through a mid-life crisis at this point. See what I did there? Middle aged? Mid-life crises? That's the onset time.

Besides that, mentioning that he looks to be in his "late twenties, early thirties" is completely superfluous since thirty-four is early thirties.

Age Opinion: Make him older. If you won't make him older, give him a more average job.

Dr. Reese's personality is what bothers me the most. This is where the biggest contradictions occur. Observe:

"Reese is a happy man...he is really nonchalant and quite unemotional." This is another example of you wanting your cake and to eat it, too. He can only be one or the other, most of the time. Everyone has ups and downs, and your character is no different. Maybe he's just really apathetic and professional a great deal of the time? It would make a lot more sense, considering his occupation(s) and all. If you wanted to stress that he wasn't emoing it out behind the scenes, you could just say that he's rather content with his life. It says the exact same thing without contradicting his outward usually seen emotions.

Another: "He always offers a giving hand when he sees fit". I didn't even need to remove anything there, it is what it is. If he always gave a helping hand then he damn well wouldn't be picking and choosing, which is what "when he sees fit" denotes. Once again, one or the other.

His Dislikes really throw me off, by the way. I know Ravi touched on that already but what exactly constitutes an "overly happy individual"? A flowerhead? One who can see no wrong in anything? If that's the case, I'd suggest changing it to "optimists" or something because either the wording is just confusing or Dr. Reese is an exceptional hypocrite.

Personality Opinion: Pick and choose or do it over.

I would recommend figuring out his history, if you haven't already. It's not listed so I haven't the slightest idea. I generally find that working out histories first helps exponentially in character development. Usually helps weed out the contradictions.

Also, not a crit, but I saw you post his profile in the Non-Owners Thread and you're only supposed to have one post per person, not one post for character. I'm pretty sure the other one isn't deleted.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 11, 2009 8:04 pm

I can see what the others are saying and I'm gonna support them on those points except for one. On the Intoxicating essence, it doesn't really matter what type of flower it ends up being. Honestly, if he wants it to be a stargazer or orchid or whatever is not the point. The point is whether it qualifies as an essence.

Snoof: Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it. It helps a lot~

I will work with Reese, I plan on writing a detailed history tomorrow.

The soul, I do get what you are saying, it will simply be a fossil, history makes it that way.

Thank you, all of you.
