Kea was sure to cling to Armel like a scared child clinging to their mother's side as they walked into the store, looking around warily at all the things inside.
Hey...it wasn't so bad in here. It was just scary on the outside. The succubus loosened her hold on Armel and let herself free to look around the shop, letting go of Armel completely now. "It really is nice in here." Maybe the eyes were just to scare people off. There was a dress that caught her eye for a moment, but then the squawk of a bird made her jump and whirl around with bright white hair and pink eyes. Oh...just a bird. "Hello, pretty birdy."

The bird is pretty and some odd kind of phoenix type bird only its plumage was in various shades of purple instead of reds, yellows, and oranges. It tilted its head at the girl before letting out a gentler sound and then resumed preening its feathers content to ignore the girl now that it had been complimented.
Armel chuckled and shrugged, “She likes getting complimented, that one.” He indicated the bird with a nod as he then went around the shop looking at various counters. The old woman momentarily gone to the back of the shop, soon the scent of warm baked goods wafted through the air. There was a soft growl issuing from the ram-horned boy’s stomach causing him to blush and place a hand over his stomach. “Uhh...”

"She's really pretty...is she a phoenix?" She certainly looked like one..but how odd! Who would keep a phoenix all caged up like this? Don't worry, she isn't planning some crazy 'Free the Phoenix!' episode or anything. The succubus continued to walk around the shop until a purple gem gleaming in the dim light caught her eye. Huh?
Her wings fluttered and she blinked, walking across the store to the choker sitting in a glass display. It was so pretty! "...I smell cookies." Keaira murmured distractedly, still staring at the choker. It looked so familar! Where had she seen this before?

Surprisingly the bird seemed pretty content where she was either way. Being let out would have been nice, in fact it reached out a foot and undid her latch and got out of the cage as easy as that. The bird wasn’t as repressed as it had looked. Tricksy bird.
Armel glanced at Kea with a raised eyebrow. Oh. Jewelry. Girls liked jewelry and that was about the extent of his thoughts of the subject. When Mama came out with the platter he stepped forward and took it from the elder woman despite protests. Mama laughed good naturedly and patted him on his head for his efforts letting him set the platter aside as she swept past him over to Kea.
“What is it you see there, Love?” She asked softly, almost whispering.

Keaira didn't even notice Mama Vivisali coming out with the platter of whatever she had just made! She had a look of concentration from trying to remember where she'd seen this choker before! The Succubus suddenly gasped, her hands flying to her mouth and staring at the choker with wide violet eyes and red hair like the very woman she was thinking of. That was--EEP!
"Wha--oh! Um...this...um...when did you get it?" Kea looked up at Mama with an embarrassed little smile for how startled she'd gotten over the woman coming up behind her like that. "It looks like the one in my Momma's pictures with her momma."

Armel munched on a cookie as he wandered over to peer at what Kea and Mama were talking about and all he saw was a piece of pretty women’s jewelry. A choker-style necklace that laid glinting in the light of the shop for all to see. He just gave a shrug and stood near by as he watched the exchange between Kea and Mama.
Mama gave a small chuckle reaching up an oddly young, slender hand to free the necklace from its prison. “This thing, child? It is odd that you should say your grandmother had owned something like it or this particular necklace at all. It is the only one like it that I know of and your grandmother couldn’t possibly be my friend who had once owned this particular trinket.” The elder woman chuckled softly and almost seemed to be testing the young female Tale before her.

Mama's words made the feathers on Keaira's wings ruffle, staring up at the woman with the same violet eyes and red hair she remembered her grandmother having in the pictures she was shown. "Reeeeally?" She gasped, standing on her tiptoes to get a closer look at the necklace the elder woman was now holding. Wow! Momma would really like it if she saw this! Had Mama really known Desdemona? "Did she have bright red hair and purple eyes and wings on her head and a tail and big black wings that she could hide?" Kea asked in a single breath, clearly excited. Wow! Had she just solved her momma's mystery? "My momma grew up here in Durem with her momma! Her name was Desdemona~ And she was a succubus just like me!" The last part was said with pride, putting her hands on her hips and looking very much like a preteen version of Desdemona the succubus.
"Isn't it pretty, Armel?" Kea grinned, her eyes turning silver like her mother's when she turned back to the woman. "My momma would be so happy if she saw this! She could wear it at her and daddy's wedding! Ohoh! Or maybe she'd give it to me!" Yeah, but how are you going to get the necklace, Keaira? You don't have any money on you! Now she was really glad Armel had convinced her to come in here!

Mama gave a cackling kind of laugh as she held the choker necklace toward the young succubus’ neck as if seeing how it would look upon her. “You don’t say, dear child? I figured you for one of them ever since you entered. Small world this is.” Abruptly the elder woman pulled back. “So when can I expect you to come in to work?”
Armel stuffed another cookie in his mouth and nodded a bit. He had been asked to price that particular item not too long ago but he didn’t seem all too impressed with it. Once he knew everything about a particular item he didn’t seem to have much interest in it at all. “Aye, sure is lovely.” he agreed in that disinterested tone of a young boy more interested in swords and adventure than pretty jewels and frills.
Now if the gem on the choker was on it’s own it would be a different thing all together...

Kea smiled a little uneasily at the cackling, not willing to admit that it made her slightly uncomfortable. It sounded like a scary witch had done it...Mama's a witch! But she didn't seem evil. The girl blinked and watched the elderly woman's actions, lifting her chin a little so she could get a better view of what it would look like on her neck. Was she really going to get it? "You did? Really?" She stood up excitedly on her tiptoes for a moment, her hands clapsed under her chin with a look of hope in her bicolored eyes. ...Work? The hope died away to be replaced with pure confusion, blinking and staring dumbly up at Mama. "Come in to work?" Had she just agreed to something without realizing it?
The succubus tale looked back at Armen as he ate another cookie, gasping softly. He was going to eat all the cookies if she didn't interfere! "Save me some?" She pouted, turning back to Mama in hopes she would get some sort of explanation about this whole 'work' thing. Her parents worked so she didn't have to, so why was this lady asking her when she would come in to work.
...Oh...she didn't have any money on her for the necklace...did Mama know this?

Whether she knew that or not seemed to be a trivial matter all together. The old woman just gave out another cackle as she started to move toward a counter, “Dear child you cannot have this for free, it simply isn’t done, but nor will I accept money for it.” The necklace went into a glass box that had runes traced onto the top and bottom of the glass surface. “I usually ask for other types of payments but you are far too young to offer me anything more than some help around the shop. Yes you seem to have a strong young back.” Mama grinned showing a set of surprisingly nice white teeth, not a crooked one in the bunch.
Armel crooked an eyebrow at Kea and almost went to retort something but instead sighed and nod. He couldn’t seem to bring himself to be rude to the girl, “Fine, fine...” he grumbled grudgingly.

She had to work for it? That was...interesting. Guess that made it more valuable when she finally did have it. Keaira looked longingly at the necklace when it was put back into its glass case, frowning softly. Other types of payment? She wouldn't ask for now. "A-and no one else can come and try and get it?" That was what she was most worried about; she wasn't sure when Mama Vivisali would feel she'd worked enough for the necklace so that fear that someone else would come in with a better offer obviously terrified her. No one else deserved this necklace than her! Well, her mother obviously deserved it more but she didn't look good in purple! And she never took off the necklace Daddy had given her so...
"Um...I...can come in whenever?" She finally agreed with a soft smile, feeling a little comforted from the earlier cackling by the lovely smile Mama was giving her. She couldn't be an evil witch, evil witches had ugly crooked teeth and warts.
Now that business had been settled it was cookie time! It's not like Mama would make her start now, right? ...Right? "It's only polite to share, Armel." Kea teased, snagging a cookie with a bright smile. Sharing is caring~ "Do you come here a lot?" She asked the boy as she nibbled on her cookie, already picking up another one so she at least had a chance to have more than one.

Mama shook her head quietly as she returned and safely tucked the key to the case away, “No one but you may have it. It seems to have sought you out and picked you as much as you picked it,” the elder woman said mysteriously and then went on to the next topic at hand.
“You may come day after tomorrow. I will have things for you to do then as well as a personalized apron for you and some tools,” Mama replied with a small chuckle. “As for a time, it does not matter but make sure your mother knows the truth about where you go, child.” Subtly the elder woman left out the question of why Keaira would be here.
Armel shrugged a bit and smirked, "Just funnin' ya, lass." he replied as she snagged a cookie from the pile without further invitation. He pondered her next commentary thoughtfully before shrugging, "More so recently, just discovered th' place. Dunno 'ow I found it other than by chance."

Kea blinked and looked at the necklace again. It'd picked her? But that's silly, it was just a necklace! And if it'd really belonged to her grandmother it would've picked her not Kea. But at least now she was assured no one could come in out of nowhere and take the necklace!
She turned away from her future prize when Mama spoke again with her instructions, frowning a bit and chewing on her lower lip. Let Momma know the truth? Oh dear, that meant she'd have to lie about how she found this place to begin with...well...maybe not! She'd just have to lie about when she came here! Yeah, that's all! But Momma would want to know why she was suddenly working here without asking her permission first, and she didn't want to tell her just yet that she'd found Desdemona's necklace.
The succubus ate a bigger bite out of her cookie and squealed with delight. These were so good! She tilted her head a little and looked around the shop for a moment. So he came here often...ooh! Kea turned back to Armel with a bright, hopeful smile, clasping her hands under her chin and standing on her tiptoes closer to the boy. "Is there something here you're working for too?" Oh please, oh please! It'd be so much more comforting if she knew she wasn't the only person roped into doing menial chores for something they really, truly wanted. Maybe she could even use some of those lessons Delora had been giving her to get out of some of her work! A girl could dream. Work wasn't something she's ever had to do before.

In a perfect, non magical world, he would have said yes. In fact he was working for a set of rather lovely gems and metal ore that the old witch happened to have, however, no matter how he tried he couldn’t nod or say yes and instead what flew from his lips was a lie, "No. I jus' come 'ere t'visit Mama she's like a gran'ma t'me," Armel answered quietly though his golden eyes held a bit of perplexity in them that soon fades away as the geas takes hold and makes the forced lie feel like a truth. In a way it was.
Mama just smiled to herself as she went tottering about and began to hum a soft tune in her voice. The crone was old and thus when she hummed it sounded more like a gentle and pleasant warbling.

"Oh..." She pouted a little as she nibbled on another cookie, but supposed it made sense. Since she'd been here all she'd seen him do was eat cookies and help her with her aching tail by wrapping it up. Oh! It didn't hurt anymore! The girl glanced down at her now purple tail, the way it was supposed to look, smiling brightly down at it before looking back up to Armel. "That's nice of you! It must be really fun here." Kea mused, giving the shop a more thorough look now that she wasn't freaking out and trying to hide behind Armel and then accidentally selling all her free time to Mama Vivisali for a necklace that belonged to her grandmother.
Somewhere in the shop a clock began to chime. Holy crap, how late is it?
