Hiroyuki managed to smile back at him only to jerk away to shoot a quizzical and confused gaze at her aunt's apparent hostile tone.

"I apologise. I was just curious to know which Nobody my niece has met, who is apparently not one of the Organization." A full blooded Nobody, of Larxene and Marluxia. She wondered how Saix would take to this news. "My son has met your mother." She added, seemingly disinterested and turned to leave.

Hiroyuki watched her aunt's retreating back, settling down beside Falx and turned to arch an eyebrow at his words. Threats? Demands? "She was just asking." She murmured. "It's not everyday a family member drags a Nobody stranger in for healing, you know." The air was tense, and the younger witch was smart enough not to let herself babble too much.

Falx watched the older femme leave, and did not answer Hiroyuki until Ayako's final russet tail trailed out of sight.

"The way she was looking at me- it was very stern. Like a glare. Should I not have thought it was a threat?"

In his parents' household, such things were always threats, expecially when coupled with blunt questioning. But Falx seemed genuinely curious as to what he'd got wrong.

"These cues- I don't undertand them," he said wearily. "A smile is simple, isn't it? But these subtle things, emotional things, they all become disgustingly murky. I look for beauty in the slant of light and the tone of color, but no matter how much I try to emulate it, I shall never be an artist. I cannot see what's underneath the surface. I'm told that my efforts are- empty."

Falx didn't sound sad, or even put-off. What would be would be. He did not worry, fear, or doubt.

Hiroyuki lifted her shoulders in a shrug. "Aunt Ayako's usually stern. Especially when it has to do with magic training." She had gotten used to how protective and strict her aunt usually seemed. Did it mean someone he knew that was stern threatened him? She looked towards Falx, wondering if she should ask him.

It was a personal question though. She was often told to keep her curiosity away from personal questions, and stayed silent while listening, struggling not to blurt out in the middle of his sentence.

"Well, there are different kinds of smiles. A weary one, a happy one, even a sad one...and do smirks count as smiles? They're both upturned lips...it should count, right?" She smiled at him. "I've heard that emotions are hard to understand. And that came from Cousin Xanul-san, a half-Nobody! It must be harder for you." She patted him gently on the shoulder, hoping she could reassure him.

Falx's expression crinkled into an inquisitive look. He would have been horrified if he could have seen himself. A creased brow and slicked-back ears were the very opposite of suave.

"Which sort of smile is that, then?"

The Nobody raised a paw to trace the corner of Hiroyuki's mouth. This was all very confusing for him! No one had told him there were all sorts of rules to the way faces could bend and twist. He wasn't certain if it was aesthetically pleasing or not.

"This?" She replied, eyes blinking curiously as his paw touched her lips, her brows furrowing as she thought. There were a lot of emotions within her and Hiroyuki wasn't exactly sure. "I smiled because I wanted you to feel better and I'm happy you're okay now." How was she to explain that usually, one smiled because they wanted others to be happy as well?

"Is your family...complicated? I mean, mine usually is. The whole one, that is. Me and my siblings are pretty okay, but well, you know I get into rough patches with Aunt's granddaughter..." She dropped her voice to a whisper as she said the last word and looked about, hoping Ayako had not heard anything. Hiroyuki knew enough to respect her aunt. Though it seemed that her constant babbling was starting to return.

"Complicated?" Falx blinked. He wasn't entirely sure what Hiroyuki meant. Was she talking about aesthetics? Certainly, there was a complex assortment of styles and clothing preferences in his family. Falx himself sat at the pinnacle of fashion, and was the only child of their Larxene and Marluxia who'd escaped being colored that funny shade of peach.

"It's large, if that's what you mean. My elder siblings are forever off creating half-breeds, and leaving the kits to be raised by strangers and relatives. I think it's rather irresponsible. It's no wonder none of them know how to think like proper Nobodies."

To Falx's mind, the resentment his older siblings had towards his parents was unacceptably emotional, and more than a little whingy. They had no hearts. They were not supposed to mope about like children because no one hugged them as infants.

"In any case," he said, dismissively, "if some ruffian is giving you trouble, I suggest you poison her. If your aunt cannot keep her in line, don't you have the right to take care of your own affairs? Really now. I will not have my friend distraught over this foolishness. It's quite unattractice."

"Well, if they trust those strangers and relatives, it should be okay. I don't see much half-Nobodies running about causing trouble, then again the only ones I know are my cousins." She didn't understand that he was probably annoyed with something else other than the fact that he had many nieces and nephews.

"I wish I could. But I'm not a Nobody! I have emotional attachments and what not!" She waved a paw in the air and sighed. Although they fought, Hiroyuki had no means of killing the other. Hurting, on the other hand was another story. "Sometimes I wish I was like you."

"Yes, if I were you, I should wish to be a Nobody as well."

All this talk of emotional attachment made absolutely no sense to him. What difference should blood make if someone was being disagreeable, and if life would be more pleasant if they were erased? Being family didn't seem to motivate any of Hiroyuki's relatives to keep this rival of hers under control. So how could they complain if she took out the trash herself?

Really{/i]. It was all horribly sentimental. Falx could feel his aesthetic standards declining for every second he spent thinking about sugary domestic closeness.

"Would it help if I killed her? You could always return the favor later, kitten."

She smiled bitterly. Sometimes, who didn't want to be free of emotional attachments? But deep, deep down in her heart, Hiroyuki knew, if given a choice, she would never give up her feelings. She loved her family, no matter how stupid it could get. She couldn't, and shouldn't want to give them up because of a certain individual.

"Falx..." Her smile faltered, and she looked at her floor. "Family things are ...complicated. Thanks for offering though." She knew he meant well but although she wouldn't want to kill Verix, no matter how much she hated him.

"Just rest well. I'll be fine."

Ah. He'd said something that wasn't charming? Falx didn't understand. Hiroyuki had poisoned him. Why not poison someone she genuinely wanted dead?

"Alright." He nodded. "I'll leave in the morning."

And with that, he settled down into sleep, wishing the last remnants of pain away from his muscles.
