She bounded through the field, ears pinned back as the warm breeze sifted through her short mane. Ever few seconds she looked behind her, to see him following, a streak of slate against goldgreen grass. Her golden hooves were only a blur as she leapt across an embankment, twisted in middair, and landed several feet out in the pond. Ducks scattered with squawks of their own as panic set in and she flailed to keep from going under the surface.
Her hooves slammed into pure water, the muck underneath several feet under her. She'd never been out in the open water before...and she couldn't stand! Shrilling wildly, she thrashed water, her wings flapping to the sides but getting her nowhere.
"Merc! G-get help!"

He watched her bound with ease, and then he watched her fall. Horror overtook his features. How had she gotten herself there?
He ran to the edge of the embankment, and without hesitation, plunged in as if to retrieve her. He swam hard, his muscles working and trying to keep him afloat. Her legs were flailing, and he tried to swim around her as to not get kicked himself.
"Merlei, Im going to- " His face went underwater, and he pushed it back up. His legs were tiring..they were only little after all. Instead of telling her what he was going to do, he turned his body, her two front legs over his back. She was heavy, and full of watersoaked feathers, and he faultered a few times. Finally he could feel the earth underneath his hooves, and he fell into the sand, with a thud as he was so exhausted. But he looked to Merlei. "You okay?"

She was falling under... Slowly, but her head would dip under the surface and she'd have to kick violently to push herself back up. She tried to call his name, to warn him, but he was already in the water. Coming for her.
And as much as she wanted to give up, she couldn't. Not when he was so close... She felt his colt muscles underneath her legs and she flailed her wings trying to help, but when they reached land, all she could do was collapse beside him.
Her cream pelt was soaked with sweat and water and she lay there, wings unmoving, watching him through the veil of her mane. "We almost died..."

He took some deep breaths, regaining his composure as she spoke, and he knew she was okay. He sighed out a breath of relief and shook his head. "But we didn't! Cause we're lucky." He gave a little nod, and smiled broadly.
"Im glad you're okay, Merl.." He said softly.

That was right. They were lucky...
Her wings...they'd only become waterlogged. What good were they, anyhow? She stood slowly on trembling, exhausted legs, and rested her muzzle on the other foal's flank. Crousader would freak if he found out what his 'good' daughter was getting into...with a boy, no less.
"Thanks for saving me," she said, sheepish. She was glad she was okay as well... "Let's...head back. Maybe we'll dry out by the time we reach our dads..."
With a huge sigh of relief, she nipped him playfully, then began to trot away. When he didn't follow immediatedly, she turned back with an encouraging whinny. "C'mon, Marc!"

She rested her head on his flank, and it was completely friendly. He had no ulterior motives, and he was a sweet young foal..He was glad he had saved his friend..He liked her alot.
Giving a smile,he too, stood on his own tired legs, and nodded. "My mother is probably worrying a bit.." He said as the sun was setting slightly.
"Coming!" He yelled to her, and dashed off to catch up with his brand new friend.
