Thoth was learning quite a bit more about Ivie from her actions. He didn't seem too worried by her advances, though he had no intention of following through with anything more than say, comforting her. He could see some issues lining up her desires and her actions, where she spoke so sadly about ruining things and had someone who stuck with her despite everything and here she was with him. It wasn't really his place to scold her about it, though.
But the more this went on, the harder it would be to get out of it.
"You don't have to hurt him," he pointed out, not minding when she rested her head on his shoulder, his tail swaying behind him, "You shouldn't take him for granted, whether or not he's more than a friend. He should be more comfort to you than I am, I'm just a friendly, handsome stranger."
He tried to keep his tone light, which was why he tossed in the vain comment- which he couldn't help but laugh quietly at.

"I can't even look at him." She murmured. I lay by his side every night and face the other way, pretend he's not there and I'm all alone." A tear slid down her cheek, blotting into his fur and fading away as quickly as it come. "It's complicated. I don't even know why I'm telling you all this. You're just a stranger. You're supposed to help me forget. No other male asked questions before I offered him smoe company."
She shook her head. "I'm a freak, you see, a freak of nature, born with a gift that...that...ruins my life." He shook his head. "If it wasn't for my gift, Fedha never would have flirted with me, never would have stolen my heart. Then I could have loved Dharba and lived a normal life." She turned her head and buried her face in his mane.
And then suddenly she pulled herself together. Stood up straight and tried to smooth out the lines of pain and sorrow on her face. "Enough, enough. I'm sorry." She put on another smile. "Come on then." She plucked at strands of his main with her mouth. "There's a den close by. We can forget pains together, if you have any which I'm sure you must, since no one seems to be happy in this world."

He was no good at this, and it was painfully obvious. However, if he were more devious and selfish he might have considered himself lucky as it seemed that no matter what foolish things he said, it wasn't scaring her away. Being a pride lion, Thoth was rather social. He had friends, family and pridemates but he'd never truly taken a crack at the whole mate scenario. He wasn't young when the war took place, but it was enough to interrupt some of his more youthful behavior (or opportunities for such). Being as he was, he wasn't the type to jump at the chance for a relationship (of any kind) with a virtual stranger.
He was also ignorant to the abilities of seers, not at all cluing in what possible 'freak of nature' qualities she could bear. Especially if this Fedha was able to tell. To Thoth, Ivie looked perfectly normal- though a bit sad. And rather pretty.
"As much as I love distractions, being distracted or causing distraction," he said very, very carefully, "And it's a tempting offer, no offense meant but I have to decline."

Her eyes widened in disbelief? Decline? Decline? But how could he say no? What was wrong with her? Had she said to much about her frekish abilities? Had she scared him off by delving too deeply into the terrible makings of her life? Was he going to look down at her now, just as she knew her mother would have if she was still here.
Mother...Palesa.
Ivie felt tears well. What had her life become? She'd turned into a pitiful, desperate little whore. Even her daughter had called her that. And yet Dharba was still with her, and what was she doing?
Being turned down by males...being left all alone. Rejected.
"No, please." And she slid to the ground at his paws, sobbing. It was anothe rmoment before she continued. "My mother...she'd be...disgusted." It wasn't tied to her first words. In fact, they fought against them. Her conscience - long buried under her desire to win the heart of a male she could never had - was beginning to surface again.

Great. Now he'd made her cry. This was not something that had happened to Thoth before, not that he knew of anyway. He'd never caused anyone to cry-- Well! There was that time when he was a cub.. but then he didn't like to think about his time with his later-proven-to-be-cowardly friend.
He could only stare and think as fast as he could of what to say- and his mouth only really hung open as he tried to figure out what to say. He didn't get a word in before Ivie herself finally spoke up, and sunk to the ground. Her words made him feel worse, not necessarily for rejecting her but because it was obvious that she was going through great emotional pain. He sighed, if only because it was a good way to make a sound and release some of his own confusion.
"No, don't think like that," he said, leaning down to talk to her, "Everybody needs love, needs company. Being a pride lion myself, I get pretty lonely. I can't more than flirt, but I tell you what- we can be friends. If you go north to check out the pride, I'll definitely see you again." Carefully, he let himself collapse onto the ground so he now lay across from her.
"It's been a while since I've had a good friend."

She heard his words through the rush of sadness and despair, clung to it as if it were all she had left to cling to. Shed lost everything, everything but Dharba. She should be treasuring their friendship, holding it close to her heart and nurturing it into something more.
Instead she'd been playing around, messing with other males. She'd done it without a care in the world, had gotten up the following day and wandered back like nothing had ever happened.
But not anymore. She couldn't. The act was breaking her, though this was the first time she had realised.
As thoth lay himself down next to her she leaned against him heavily, forcing back the sobs, surpressing them so she could speak. "Me too." A friend. She thought she'd always had friends, but she hadn't, not really. Fedha had never been a friend, just a horrible lion who had stolen her heart and refused to give her his own. But she still had Dharba...right? Things were awkward between them now but it didn't mean it always would be.
"Thank you."
She sighed. "Maybe I will go there." She replied softly. "Maybe all I need is to start someplace new with Dharba." She blinked. "I'll go back and find him, tell him about your land. Maybe it's where I'm supposed to go."

That was much better. Friends, everyone could use a friend. Thoth had family, he had pridemates, but it had been a while since he'd really thought of anyone as just a friend. Pride trouble certainly helped make that more and more difficult.
"Go north, we live on an open plain with a full view of the sky," he explained, "If you don't find a guard or hunter patrolling around, and you may not- there aren't too many of us anymore- you'll find the king. Tell Unyezi I sent you." It was always a bonus to have someone who could vouch for you, Unyezi would probably ask fewer questions if he knew there was someone else willing to trust them. And besides, knowing someone else was willing to put trust in you was a good thing. It was what friends did.

And now that she'd been brought sharply back to earth, she could appreciate how much of a gentleman Thoth had been. And that sparked something in her heart.
That desire to be wanted, to feel loved hadn't gone away, it'd just been brought back to a sensible level. But the seed had been long buried in her personality and it's roots were strong. He'd cut off the leaves, but they still remained, aiding that niggle in her personality that would always be a bad trait in her.
She purred, licked his cheek and rose.
"If Dharba agrees, I will gladly go. A new start. That is what I need. I think you may have just offered me that, Thoth. I will remember the name and I will remember you."
She smiled. "Thank you." And she started off. "I must go find Dharba." A pause. "Goodbye."

He was a little startled by her sudden action, surprised to find she was so immediately inspired to get up and go. Perhaps he had done some good after all. With a smile, he got to his feet after her as she explained her plan and thanked him. It was very good to see her be optimistic, to smile and be hopeful. They just met, but it was much better than the dreary outlook she'd had at the start.
"You're quite welcome, Ivie'lingwa," he responded cheerfully, "I hope to see you again. Good luck!" Then he watched her go, glad to have had someone to talk to and a feeling a little more optimistic. Soon he too turned around and headed off. He had a job to do.
Fin.
