"We're gonna be in so much trouble, Ranza," sighed Nahuel, shaking his head in frustration. He hated having to be the responsible one. He really did. Because as great as being the responsible one, under normal circumstances he would have been in the fountain right alongside the girls.
Ranza looked at Sabina sadly. "I think that means you can't come," she said, "But we can play some other time!"

Unable to fight the battle alone, Sabina admitted defeat with Ranza's words. She reluctantly folded to the second best option, as suggested by her friend, and looked up to her father for confirmation. Tentatively she asked, "Can we?"
Lack of immediate response caused the small girl some worry, but Matthew had wordlessly drawn a notepad from his jean pocket along with a pen. He scribbled some contact information down, folded the paper, and handed it to the boy who ventured to be more reliable than the younger girls.
"If your mother can ever forgive me," he said, eyeing the troublemakers in the fountain, "I'm sure Sabina would be very grateful for a playdate."
He proceeded to offer his hands to assist the girls out of the fountain. "Ladies."
Sabina gave Ranza an affectionate squeeze before letting go to grab her father's hand, waiting for Ranza to do the same so that they might step out in synch.

Nahuel took the folded paper and put it into his pocket. Ranza grinned and latched onto Sabina's father's hand when it was offered to her, and stepped out alongside her friend, taking a substantive amount of water with her trapped in her feathers.
Nahuel looked his sister up and down.
"Mom is going to kill us," he said, taking her by the hand and starting on home. Ranza craned around to wave to her new friend.
"Byeeeeeee!"

Sabina immediately embraced her father's leg when she hopped out of the fountain, drenching his pant leg with the most innocent intentions. She clung to him, as was her favorite mode of transportation, and threw one arm up in a wildly enthusiastic wave.
"Bye Ranza!" she called.
She then took to tapping at Matthew's leg and looking up at him. Time to go. The man inhaled deeply and ruffled the girl's hair, creating a sort of fauxhawk with her short wet hair.
"Shame you're so wet," he mused with an air that almost sounded like he meant it. He picked up the mess of bags and continued walking before putting an end to the slight anticipation he had created. "Can't try on your new clothes like that, now can you?"
Flustered by this information, Sabina only held tighter and grumpily served her father that silent treatment she only thought bothered him.
