Aw, but they're so adorable! 4laugh Not. What annoys me how many inconsistancies there were! Meg's super absobant pants at the end, look at her and Madame Giry during Masquerade when they go down the stairs, they're positions change! Where does Christine get the light for the candle at the beginning? I don't hate the movie. They just needed a better script supervisor! Oh, and hi Katie heart

I've never thought of Erik as attractive . . . or unattractive, for that matter. I like the movie for, well, the movie, not because some guy is "hot." when I showed it to my friend, she kept ranting about how "hot" he was, and I don't think she payed attention to the actual movie. Fangirls annoy the crap outta me, because they pay so much attention to they guys in movies and only really care about the movies themselves when the "hot guy" either dies or gets intimate with a girl. Or guy, in some cases.

I can be a fangirl myself a lot actually. Personally, Gerik did nothing for me in the movie. The movie was okay, but there were a bunch of things that just annoyed me. The thing is, that Erik is supposed to be hideous. So hideous that Christine wanted to kill herself to escape him. His ugliness was the driver of the whole story, so to make it so that he's not ugly is a corruption of the character and of the story. You're not supposed to disregard Erik's appearance, because it is really the whole theme of the story, not just a subplot. Don't judge the 2004 movie as what PotO is supposed to be. It is just that, shallow a corruption of the original story. Nothing more, nothing less.

Notice how in the beginning of the movie, during the song "Think of Me" when Raul realizes it's Christine singing, he jumps up and yells "Bravo!" Bad Italian, the correct term, since Christine is a girl, is "Brava!"

welcometomyhell Takiko-chan I was brought to phandom with the 2004 movie. I remember that, when watching it, one of my main thoughts was "hell, even without the mask, many girls would drool for him!" Though back then, a small deformity was enough to make everyone hate it, so it was kinda justiable... Anyway, my point is, right after watching the movie I read the Leroux book, and the fact that Erik is ugly as hell was into my head soon enough. I think that those 2004 movie fans should take a quick look at PotO's original roots before posting crap like that. They like Gerry's looks, not Erik's. And they didn't even mention the name "Erik" in the 2004 movie, so they could have at least said "We love the Phantom's looks!". Saying "Erik" proved that they are extremely ignorant, since this means that they read/watched other PotO media, and Erik is ugly in most of them... Oops, I babbled. Or that they've heard his name from someone else. Can you imagine their angry squealing if they saw us speaking of them in such a manner? They'd scream and squeel like the worthless, bodyalizing swine they are! We shall smite them, and hunt them down until they have been taken off of the Earth! But, I do admit I am drawn by ALW's Gerry Phantom's looks, then was the first time I'd even HEARD of POTO. But, as I found out more about him, I fell in love with him, and it wasn't just a body urge. What THEY think is him, is not Erik. It is the Phantom, not Erik, big difference. And in the 2004 movie, The Phantom looks like he had a sunburn or something, not a massive deformity. Either that or people in 18th century Frnace were real pansys.

Thorn Venatrix The thing is, that Erik is supposed to be hideous. So hideous that Christine wanted to kill herself to escape him. Just to be nitpicky, she didn't try to kill herself to escape his ugliness, she did it to escape his murderous insanity. She was already over his face by that time, she was just afraid of what he was going to do to her. I've been told that there are subtle hints in the original french that she was afraid he was going to rape her, but that's just random trivia. I would reply more to the topic at hand, but my brain doesn't want to work very well right now.

Euh...the way my version read it souded like she did. Though...it might be interesting to read the French version (if I knew anything about French) to see what little subtelties were in there that were lost in translation.

If it's any benefit, it seems the first link is nonexistent now.
Maybe there is justice in the world. xd

I started on the movie, but now that I've researched, read the original book, and seen it on broadway I consider myself wiser. STAGES OF PHANTOMNESS: BEFORE MOVIE: My mom: Satyra, since you don't want to see our movie, why don't you see POTO Ignorant, stupid, blonde, deprived me: No, I don't really like operas. Mom: You'll really like it (continues persuading for twenty minutes) Ignorant, stupid, blonde, deprived me: FINE!!!
DURING MOVIE: I was in awe of the songs and singing (I did put that I was deprived.), story, characters, sets, and costumes. I fell in love with the character of Erik.
After the movie: Immedeatelly bought the original broadway soundtrack and fell in love even more.
After watching movie a second time: Wow, thier singing stinks compared to the originals.
After reading the book and seeing the silent film: Fell in love with Erik even more, believe it or not, and encountered my favorite character... the persian.
After seeing the broadway play: OBSESSION. The phantom of the Opera is there, inside my mind. I can relate ALMOST anything to it.

On the topic of the original post... I do think that Gerik is rather attractive. But, I don't think of him as the Phantom. I think of him as Gerard Butler dressed like the Phantom. He just kinda seems like, well, an actor or a really good cosplayer. Not the actual Phantom. The actual Phantom is, of course, much more deformed.
And I think any obsession over the appearance of a fictional character is kinda creepy. o_o;;; (Especially when it comes to anime fangirls, but that's off-topic.)

He's Gerard Butler playing Erik. He does not embody the character, so he's not "An Erik", but a monotypic Gerik.
