She snorted whirling to face him, her ears pinned back teeth bared. " Don't you raise your voice at me!! I have never ran from you Caelin you were always the one that was so good at running away." She sneered tears in her eyes.
He had left her, he had abandonded them all and wanted his freedom. How DARE he talk to her as if this was her fault. She turned away again refusing to let that maddening male see her cry.

For a moment he was too angry to speak. The wind caught his mane and whipped it behind him in a snapping auburn banner. If he had hoped to find her aged and more mature now then his hopes had failed. She still clung to her deceptions even when she had to know that he knew the truth behind them now.
"I ran away, yes. What did you expect me to do once I found out what you really felt about me?" He could still feel the hollow within himself that those words out of the mouth of her father had left in him. It was as empty a sky without blue. Emptiness was all he had left of his childhood.

What in the world was he talking about? "How I -felt-?! Since when have you ever cared about how I felt!" She snorted bitterly fighting against the tears in her gold eyes.
Shaking her head again she closed her eyes against the pain. "You have a lot of nerve saying that to me after what you did. " He had lied to her, made her believed he cared then abandonded her without a second thought. No she owed him nothing.

"... After what I did." His mouth opened and closed without words and he turned his head to look off into the distance, the distance that he longed to be in. Anywhere but here at this moment. They were never supposed to see each other again. He had thought he was sure of that and had avoided the herd's area for all this time. Fate had played a cruel trick on him indeed today.
"Really," he said in a voice tight with emotion. "I think you knew that I cared what you felt. Maybe that's why you pretended... for my sake. Is that what you're trying to tell me?"

" YOU LEFT ME" she bellowed furious. Hatred filled her so completly for a moment that it litterally caused her to shake. When she finally could gain control of herself long enough to speak her voice was tight and controled again.
"You obviously did not care to much when you left me, telling my father you wanted to be free of me. Oh yes what was it you said...my clinginess?" Her words where bitting and bitter, her golden eyes blazing with rage. " So don't you dare stand there and pretend to be self-rightous. You left me a long damn time ago."

"I left you?!" After everything she had done to him it was not enough. It was not enough that she had destroyed all his memories of his childhood. She would now try to destroy this life he had created for himself too. Caelin wouldn't allow it this time. His ears flattened fully backwards and his teeth snapped at the air.
"Of course I left! Isn't that what you wanted? Don't you dare put words in my mouth. I recall... I recall..." His gray eyes were filled with bitterness, regret, and years of pain he thought he had left behind. "I recall hearing that you were the one that wanted me gone. If you didn't expect me to believe it you shouldn't have told your father to tell me."

" What?!" She couldn't believe the nerve of him. Wasn't it enough that he had broken her heart but to lie ontop of it. " Do you think you are funny?! " Shaking her head she snorted baring her teeth at him.
"Oh I get it, this has all been some sick damn joke hmm. Well you aren't funny Caelin!! You told me you loved me, then abandon me. " She shuddered all over tears running from her eyes.

"I told him no such thing and you know it. Just... stop this, Mapiya." Saying her name brought about a change in him, calming some of the fury. Obviously neither of them were having a good time with this conversation but he wanted and needed closure. He wanted to hear her say the words with her own voice and tell him the reason behind it. She owed him that much.
"I want you to tell me the truth. You can't convince me that I said something I didn't." He saw the tears but couldn't think of how to react to them. Once he would have tried to comfort her. Now... what did one say to the crying mare that betrayed him?

" You are lying. He told me what you said! Why would he lie to me." She laid her ears back fighting down the sobs that threatened to spill out.
"Oh Piya pet, I am so sorry... I tried to get him to stay but well...he said he couldn't take it any more, that you were smothering him. I am sorry sweetheart..." Her father had nuzzled her and held her close as she sobbed heartbroken, her heart torn into.
"Why Caelin, why did you leave me damnit!"

He shook his head, already wearying of this game. She could deny it all she wanted to but the truth was the truth. Seeing her blatantly lying like this was... it struck Caelin as pathetic to the core. "You know why I left and it isn't whatever you think your father said."
He looked at her and tried to remember the last time he had seen that face smiling. Were her smiles always lies? Probably yes, just as these tears are now.
"I left because of what you said to your father and what he was... so kind as to repeat to me." It had been truths but was that really a kindness? In this case, Caelin didn't know.

"The only thing I ever told my father about you is how much I loved you." she hissed furious. How could he be so cruel to not only dig up these old wounds but to now rub salt in them?
Slowly her anger faded away as she sighed , her head drooping, " Caelin I never understood why you left or why you didn't just tell me I was making you unhappy. But please stop this. You have hurt me quiet enough."

He wanted to believe her. Even after all this time he wanted to believe that she had loved him and that she was telling him the truth now. He looked at her again. Why would she be pushing it this far? He couldn't understand it. Certainly she'd know what her father had told him and the results it had. Certainly she would have wanted that.
"Listen," he said slowly and deliberately. "This is why I left. Your father told me that you..." His voice grew distant, detached from the words that he was saying. It had happened a long time ago. "He told me that you had been pretending to care about me... out of pity, but that you were tiring of it.... that it would be better if I left before you lost your patience and had to tell me yourself. That was what happened and that was why I left. I don't see how it could have been a mystery to you but I'd rather you be honest with me than have to pretend again."

She jerked back as if he had physically struck her, her golden eyes turning dull. " You would honestly belive that? Caelin I -never- ever would have said something so cruel and certainly not about you. " She shook her head again.
"Do you really think I would be such a coward that if I did not care I would have pretended to? If you think that....then obviously you didn't know me after all." She turned away again, her heart aching as she headed for her new home. The sun had risen now and little Adour would be awake.....

This didn't make sense at all. She was so determined to deny it, clinging desperately to her lies... the lies that she told him instead of the truth that she told her father... except that she was denying that as well. She turned her back on him for the second time that day but this time the wind wasn't going to blow him back to her. It blew his mane across his eyes and Caelin could almost hear the sound it made echoing through the emptiness within himself.
He was tired of being empty because of her... or maybe it was because of the words that her father had told him. Words like she said her father had told her about him.
Her father.
It had been her father who told him everything. Why had he never thought to question that before now? Caelin had been younger then, more trusting of the older herdmates and their wisdom. He was her father and Caelin thought he knew best.
... And what it came down to was this. Either he had spent all of his childhood living a lie or all of his adulthood. Which was more laughable? Still, Mapiya was walking away and with her the truth. The actual truth, not something passed from lips to lips. It was too late to salvage his past but with the truth, maybe his future would have a fragment of hope.
"Mapiya," he called, grateful that she hadn't charged off as fast as last time. "Mapiya, your father... what was it that he told you I said?"

"Please...please stop Caelin..." Mapiya's voice was thick with her unshed tears but still she stopped, as unable to walk away from him now as she had been unable to as a young filly. It didn't matter that he had broken her heart and left her alone, she still couldn't just..leave him.
"He told me that you didn't love me that you were tired of me being so clingy. " Her voice caught inher throat as she shuddered remember the moment her young heart had broken in two.
"Why Caelin? What does it matter?"
