"Orli!!" Rory called, grinning at the little girl wildly. She didn't know Polly knew her! Well, it might have been mentioned, but she probably missed it some where in all of the excitement.
She let them greet each other and grinned to Del and the new girl she didn't know, Cecelia, and Orli's siblings. "Come on over! There's plenty of room and turns for sining! I got a whoooole book of songs!" she told them all, holding up the said book.

Kova giggled and crouched to better see the book Rory offered. Delilah smiled at Rory prettily and waved. Then she tried to slip off the stage. Her break for it was interrupted by a swift hand and her mother drew her closer. "Don't be shy," Kova ordered. "Why don't you show them what a pretty lil voice you have, ticklebug?"
Delilah looked horrified at the nickname and shot a pathetic, pleading glance at Rory. "Maaaama," she whispered. "I don't wanna."

Rory felt just as embarrassed for Del, having heard the nickname, and politely ignored it. Mama's tended to do embarrassing things like that in front of people you really rather they didn't. She gave the situation a quick thought, as well, not wanting someone to be forced to sing who didn't want too.
She knew she didn't want too.
"Delilah can help me with the books! And find out what people want to sing! There's getting to be a lot of people, and I'll need help with it," she then suggested, hoping to give her the break she needed.

That earned Rory an immediate little smile; Delilah didn't seem to smile very big but the little ones she offered were pretty enough and seemed rare enough to be worth something. She neatly wriggled out of her mother's grip and moved to stand beside Rory. "I'll help Rory," she said. "So she can have fun, too."
Kova nodded and rocked back on her heels. "Very good." Then she reached out to pat first one head and then the other gently. "You're both great," she told them. "Now... Does someone want to pick a song for me?" She looked at the girls in front of her for a moment and then opened up the question to the other kids nearby with a sweeping glance and smile.

Cecelia was staring up at the singers, so caught up in the moment, she didn’t even think about singing herself, for once. Only when she spotted Delilah hunched over the books with another child did she snap out of it.
“DELILAH!” She called at the top of her lungs, bounding over to the other girls. “ImagonnasingDelilah.” She said breathlessly before pausing to wave at the other girl.

Delilah blinked and then laughed softly, holding out the book a bit more. Kova took the cue and scooted to the side so Cecelia could better see what was on offer. "Here are the songs, Cece." Then she nodded at Rory. "And this is Rory. She is running the stage."
Which wasn't quite true but Delilah thought it sounded much more impressive than "holding the book" and the other little girl had been nice to her. It was good to be nice back, Mama always said.

Cecelia’s eyes grew wide, and she looked at the other girl with admiration. “Are you really running the stage?” She asked, much impressed. “Can I sing? Can I? Can I? Can I?” She was practically bouncing with excitement, it buzzed in the air and mixed with the warm sea wind, only serving to further her enjoyment.

Running the stage? That did sound impressive! And Rory was the type of girl to go at things, flying by the seat of her pants. Why else would she go for being a superhero? Then jump into a band?
This... was -awesome- if you asked her. Course, Chris and Polly were also running the stage, she just wasn't going to mention what part of it she was running. She grinned at the blonde.
"Of course you can! We've got a whole line of people! And you can choose what song you want to sing, from the book. Then words will show up as you sing, so you don't forget the lines," she said, gesturing to the book in Delilah's hands. "And you can sing in pairs, too!" she added, pointing up at Riley and Melchy, who were preparing to sing.

Hearing Rory's suggestion about singing in pairs, Orli latched back onto Polly. "We should sing together!" she said brightly, craning her neck to look at the book her other friend held. "What should we sing?"
Polly hopped up to sit on the stage with the growing crowd of children, next to, but not too close to, the other girl with feathery hair. "Pirates?" she asked seriously. The word sounded familiar to her, like she had known it once, but she couldn't exactly recall where she'd heard it.
Nahuel was growing a bit more uncomfortable. He didn't know anyone here! Hmm, who looked promising? Well, there was that boy about his own age with cat ears sticking out of his unruly black hair. Maybe they had something in common? But he was getting ready to sing... Nahuel shrugged and looked around for someone else to talk to, but they were all paired off... Maybe there was somewhere better to chill? But Mom would be mad if he left his sisters alone...

"You're Chris?" Tock asked as the boy appeared next to them.
"Yep," Chris said, eyeing the taller male curiously. "You're Polly's dad?"
"I'm her captain," Tock said. The kid was even scarier looking than himself, he thought blankly. It was no wonder Polly hadn't seemed shocked at the sight of him.
"Okay!" Polly said, although she had no idea how to sing, or if she even could. "Let's do it!"
"You're still a kid, right?" Tock asked, still a bit confused. Chris grinned at him and nodded.
"I probably weigh almost as much as you do, too," Chris told him cheerfully.

"See? I knew you'd like him, Chris," Rory informed him with a grin, while letting the girls choose a song to sing. Chris was also getting off the hook on singing, himself. She couldn't help but grin to herself.

Cecelia ginned broadly. Being in the spotlight would be a dream come true, and was *not* something she was gonna share with anyone else. She was waiting impatiently with the other children for her turn to pick a song, when she spotted Chris talking to some older person. She grinned, and waved madly at the boy, hoping he’d remember her. She had only vague memories of him, but being forgotten was something she feared most in the world.

Melchy, having had no idea at all, had flipped through the songs until something that he had heard before caught his eye. It was one of those weird songs that he didn’t like much but ended up hearing all the time. And when it had been put on, he knew half the words already. Then again, half the song was for the female part, so he contented himself with his own until it got to the refrain. Then he burst into song, or rather, into horrific caterwauling.
“Once upon a time I was falling in looooooove, now I’m only falling apaaart! Nothing I can do; it’s a TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAART!”
Unaware of his own inability to sing, the boy played on joyfully until the song’s end, when he immediately tossed the mic, bowed to Riley, and tilted his head at the other catboy he had noticed. This kid was...weird. He was spotted, for one thing. Or...spotted, sorta. Ears an’ tail. Not anyone Melchy recognized. Probably not a Liberty Center kid.
“Oy, what’re you on about?” he roared at a pair of beachcombers who were still watching him in horrified fascination, before turning to Nahuel and bouncing over.
“So, ain’ never seen ye roun’ ‘ere afore. Who’re ye, then?” he said easily, thrusting his hands into his pockets and tilting his head back to look at Nahuel from a slightly higher angle. The boy was taller than him.
So were many people.

Such as Keres.
A very raucous and fairly uncontrolled laughter busted out from behind the short cat-boy and the initial introduction of the sphinx-girl was taken care of. With wings fanned out for balance and golden eyes watering, no notice of the leopard boy was paid by the girl, for her focus rested solely on the topic of Melchy's highly entertaining performance.
"You--" she gasped for breath and voice in between choked laughter, "-- you sounded like a tone deaf parrot that got sucked into a vacuum! -- Total eclipse of the HEAARRRTTT--" She broke off early and her over-dramatized mimicry of his voice fell back into a gag as she laughed again.
"Ohh, sweet baby Jesus, I'm so glad I got up this morning."

Melchy froze at that voice, ears pinning when he recognized the mockery in it. Turning slowly, head low and back arching in an involuntary feline reaction to anything he gauged as threatening, he glanced back at Nahuel. "Be righ' back," he murmured, then stood up and thrust his hands into his pockets.
Tossing his head back arrogantly and acting like Keres wasn't nearly a foot taller than him, he shot her his best disdainful glare. "Like you c'd do any better," he drawled. "I'll bet y'sound like a wharfrat tryin'a howl like a dog," he added, grinning at his own insult. All his uneasiness had disappeared, and his totally relaxed state was indicative of his relationship with Keres at this point.
It was just how they were together. For all his words and his lashing tail, it was obvious enough that Melchy was...having fun.
Yeah...that was one word for it.
