Felix sat on a large chair in front of a wall of monitors, each feeding the visual streams from all Mora's and the two Stryzga's involved in the operation, a few other screens showed the monitors of the infantry officers, Still more monitors showed area status and each individual unit status. Felix glanced at the largest monitor. A map was displayed upon it, constantly changing as it tracked the plane and the terrain beneath it, soon it would be locked on top of the mission area to oversee all actions of the team.

"Aiming systems...?"

Felix thought a moment,

"I didn't change any aiming systems....or did I? If I did then they must be better than before so don't worry....much. Anyway, ETA is... twenty-five or thirty minutes. Enemy response... none right now other than a few security guards... I only see four low grade Moras pacing around."

He paused a moment, his tone a bit more serious,

"I'd watch it though, I've heard of a group that has been interfering in our activities in these kinds of missions."

Felix leaned back in his chair waiting for the operation to begin, he missed his lab... almost, he'd have to deal with the FNG's who would walk off a cliff if anyone took their eyes off of them. Also Nadia was still probably waiting to rip him apart for muting her com.

It seemed like the instant he had laid his head down, a loud beep woke Tim from his sleep. Years of training allowed him to instantly be awake and alert, but he was still annoyed that he hadn't had more sleep that the commander had ordered him.
He pushed a button on the wall and held it down. "What's up?" he said into it.
A voice came through, loud and obtrusive, "Command has information on a possible GHOST attack on an EU operated structure."
"Is my Mora ready for combat yet?" he replied.
There was a long pause and Tim asked the question again.
"Sorry sir," the voice finally said, a note of embarrassment in his voice "Commander Bradthrorn says to just get down here ASAP."
Tim mused over that for a second. Wonder what Mira has in store for me this time? Then said aloud, "All right, Kinomoto out."
He changed his shirt to a short black t and put a bombardier-jacket over that, but kept his jeans on from the day before. Or... today. He wasn't really sure what time it was.
The door to his room opened and he stepped out, not bothering to lock it behind him; there was nothing to take, and no one would dare enter it without his permission anyway. A few seconds later he strolled into the control room to see the familiar sight of lab techs running around and soldiers in civilian clothing walking in and out through the bay door. Mira was giving curt orders while leaning forward to see the screens.
The moment Tim walked in she started speaking without turning to him, "Intercepted intelligence confirms that the E.U. has hired GHOST officials to enter Ukraine and take out hiding Red Star officers. We know the general area of the attack, but not the exact location of the facility, or what nature the hideout is." She turned toward Tim. "But what we do know, is that the outlying area is highly populated; most likely a Red Star tactic to discourage a full-on attack. But we all know how GHOST operates." She gave a level look around the room, then finally got back to Tim.
His face was serious, but inside he was getting excited. "Just point and I'll go, Commander. But, I believe my mech is currently out of commission. I'll have to borrow another."
Then Mira did something unexpected: she gave him a small smile. "That won't be a problem," she said enigmatically, turning. "Follow me." And she left through the main bay doors. Curiously, Tim followed quickly behind her.
"You're gonna love it, Timmy!" Wally's voice floated down to him the moment he entered the bay. "My best work yet!"
Tim looked toward the source of the voice and saw Wally standing on a platform suspended above a large, mech sized brown tarp.
"What's this all about, Mira," Tim said warily as they approached it.
In response, Mira stopped in front of the tarp and folded her arms. She turned her head to Tim with a small smile on her face and a michevous twinkle in her eyes. "Yesterday you asked me why all the mechs we had were so bad."
"Yeah," Tim responded suspiciously.
"I never want you say that ever again, you ingrate." She turned back and called up to Wally. "OK, Wally, your show!"
Movement around them slowed to a stop as everyone looked up a Wally and the giant hidden structure. Wally gave a sweeping bow and said in a booming voice, "Ladies and gentleman, but mostly Timmy here. After months of secretive work by moi, I present to you the pinnacle of our... slightly lacking reversed engineered technology." He said that last part in a rush.
Tim stared wordlessly at the mass, excitement building in him.
"People of ZAMU! Introducing," he pressed a button on his lift and the clips holding the tarp in place in front unhooked and the tarp flew backwards with a heavy flutter. "The Zero Hour," Wally finished smugly.
Tim gaped up at the mech he saw before him. "Like it?" Mira said, just as smug as Wally.
"How..."
"Did we hide it from you?" Wally said as his lift came to ground level. "Lemme' tell you; it was not easy. I wanted to blab about it every time you complained about your Mora. But you, nor anyone else, could know about it until we were sure it was safe to drive."
Tim's look of shock gradually turned into a fierce grin. "Ukraine, you said?"

Tim and five other people rode in silence on the unmarked carrier plane. Tim's eyes were closed as he listened to the hum of the engines and got his mind in the right set for battle. Abruptly he stood up and walked to the middle of the area.
"Alright, men," he started his speech he gave before most missions. "You know the drill. Do not engaged E.U. or Red Star forces unless absolutely necessary. Three, Four, and Five: you set up a force perimeter around the most likely spots for civilian congregations. Town halls and churches are good places. Two and Six, you're with me in confrontation control. If the fight gets too close to civilians, we take the fight back to the fighters." He punched his fist into his palm.
"I don't need to tell you what happens if you get captured..." He left it hanging, and a somberness fell over the cabin. They all knew about he standard issued pills in their belt pockets.
Tim grinned. "But have you seen that thing we have on our side now? We could stop the war with just that."
Three and Four chuckled nervously, Two gave a short back of a laugh, and Five and Six just sat there. Tim pushed a button on his belt and the com came on. "ETA?" he said.
A crackly voice came over the ship's intercom, "Little over thirty minutes."
Tim nodded and sat back down. Number Six, Jorge Mantierez, leaned close to him. "You sure you'll be able to drive that new thing?" His voice had a slight Argentinian accent to it.
"Don't worry about it," Tim said back quietly, "Wally's going to be in contact the whole time, giving me a walkthrough." He leaned back and closed his eyes, then spoke into his com again. "We get a map of the area yet?"
"Downloading into the mechs navigation arrays now."
"Good." The plane lapsed back into silence, save for the comforting whir of the plane engines.

"Yeah, you always think you do things for the better..." Alaric said to himself about Felix's comment as he entered codes and flipped switches, "... Just like that joint modification you made that one time was 'for the better'..."

The near-death experience came to mind as he spoke it. He could swear he felt himself shudder on the inside from the memory.

"Anyway, we don't ha-..."

"Green light, we have Green Light to go, people! Check your equipment one last time!" a voice shouted, coming from a pilot over the plane communication system.

"So soon...?" Alaric said to himself, making sure he was for sure ready.

"Ground units, check your 'chutes, then walk to the white line!" a commanding officer bellowed in an authoritative voice.

So that's how we're doing it... We must be at a higher altitude than I thought... Alaric thought. They were going to HALO drop the ground units in, then drop the mechs in after. It made sense, now that he processed the thought. Alaric fastened his straps, running over mission priorities in his head briefly.

"Green light, go!" the commander shouted, holding onto a strap attached to the hull as the loading bay doors opened, revealing an endless sea of silver and a sky of blue. The clouds masked the ground, creating a blanket of beauty that spanned the entire horizon. The units started systematically jumping from the plane, and soon all fifty or so of them were off the plane. Then the voice came up again.

"Moras, ready yourselves for drop procedure, in three... two... one..."

Suddenly, the hatches under the Moras opened, leaving them suspended by thick cables. The cables then proceeded to detach, each produced a cloud of steam as it separated. The huge machines plummeted from their places in the ship, falling to earth like meteors. The hatches closed after they were gone, then only he and Sergei remained.

"You ready, friend?" Sergei said, over the intercoms. Alaric wasn't sure if that was Sergei's way of testing the communications, or if he was being genuine.

"Always ready. And I know you are, so I'll save my breath for the fight," Alaric replied, showing no tone of being nervous or anxious. He was entirely calm, since he knew the circumstances.

"Stryzgas, dropping in three..."

This is it... Alaric thought, preparing for the drop. He hated this method of entry.

"... Two..."

His grip on the controls got tighter.

"... One... Drop!"

The hatch opened, and Alaric felt the weightless sensation of falling. His eyes were closed. Maybe that was why Sergei asked him the question. Did he know about his thing with heights? It didn't matter, he supposed.

An eternity of falling passed, and Alaric engaged his thrusters to slow the fall to a halt. They were on the ground, and the oil refinery was on the horizon. The gunfire had already erupted from the infantry units; the sounds were unmistakable. Not necessarily the gunshots. The screams of pain. Alaric sighed, and started to move up. He passed the Moras almost instantly, rushing through the dirt, grass, and stone that composed the terrain. They had landed outside of the target area this time, which Alaric was grateful for. He remembered the last time he jumped directly into enemy territory.

The gunfire kept going, though it became less frequent, which meant one side was getting massacred. Alaric knew which side it was, but he didn't rule out the possibility of his units getting killed as well. He moved forward, hoping for the best...

"We're here, people," the pilot's voice crackled over the intercom, "Suit up. The ground rescue will be two minutes behind us."
Tim's eyes snapped open and he was instantly on his feet going for the back of the plane where the mechs were kept. His team followed behind him, all grabbing onto the pressure-sensitive bars. Tim grabbed his and was automatically taken up to his mechs cockpit.
"Jeese..." he mumbled as he climbed into the uncomfortable bucket-seat, "Would it kill them to put some cushion in here?" He settled the headset onto his head, along with a pair of thick goggles. He then quickly flicked a few switches and began the start up procedure.
His cockpit door closed and he said into the mic as screens tuned into life around him, "This is One, sign off everyone."
"Two, all green and standing by."
The huge doors below them started opening. The mechs swung freely now on large wires.
"Three, all green."
"Four, all go, standing by."
"Five, adjusting leg rotary... standing by."
"Six, ready to go."
"Wally," Tim said, "You with us?"
"Think I'd miss my baby's first run?" Wally's said from the safety of his control panel back at base. "Don't strain her too hard, your power source is not exactly fully tested."
Tim rolled his eyes. "Greeeat. I assume that's why I don't hear any motor?"
"That's right," Wally said proudly, "Runs nearly silent. No real moving parts, you see."
There was a clacking sound as the doors came to their full open condition.
"Dropping as close to the civilian placements as safely possible. Ground troops will be dropped directly into town in one minute, thirty." The pilot paused. "Good luck."
Suddenly Tim felt a stomach-dropping weightlessness as the clamps undid themselves and he started dropping. He quickly pressed a button and a five-point harness locked him into place. An altimeter of his front screen showed his quickly dropping height.
"And..." Tim said to himself. "Three... two... ... one."
He pushed his thrusters to 70% and almost completely slowed his descent. He landed with a thump, and saw his other team members drop near him. Three, Four, and Five, each in their own Moras, quickly made their way to the town, doing what they were assigned to do. Two and Six pulled up beside him.
"OK," Tim said, "I'll take point, you two take up my flanks."
"Can do," Jones Devi, number Two, said. He was using a slightly modified Mora with large, metal shields on his arms and a Gatling gun he had to use two hands for.
Mantierez remained silent but did as he was told. His Mora was nearly entirely unchanged, save for a large, over-the-shoulder aiming system, and a highly accurate rifle. The combination made for deadly accuracy with bullets the size of a man's head.
"And here we go." Tim punched the throttle. What acted as his exhaust pushed out streams of blueish particles, though his mech made no noise save for the crunching of gravel beneath it.

White lines flew across the sky, deadly pieces of hot metal being trading amongst soldiers. People were dying fast. The workers of the oil refinery didn't stand a chance, of course, having no arms or armor with which to protect themselves. They were the heaviest casualty Alaric could see. But some of his men were taking losses as well. A few Moras were stationed here as a security measure, and they were rather effective against the wave of infantry. Of course, they were matched against highly-trained pilots, and were destroyed.

One of the Moras belonging to GHOST had taken a bullet from a security Mora, and was destroyed. A single shot from the Gatling cannons on their shoulders had hit the cockpit, which triggered a security measure once the pilot's vitals flat-lined. The explosion wiped out a small portion of a concrete structure next to it. The enemy Mora was executed instantly by another, larger explosion, coming from Sergei. The surroundings of the detonation area were decimated.

In the midst of the battle, a lone black limousine started to drive into the horizon. Alaric took aim, but was interrupted by a communication.

"Moongleam, be advised, do not shoot at the limo, I repeat, DO NOT fire. We have placed a tracking device on the vehicle, and will track it. In the meantime, you are to clear the rest of the area, and then destroy the refinery. Is that clear?"

Alaric paused for a moment, trying to decide whether or not to follow orders. He sighed.

"Crystal clear... Sirs," he said, with a tone of slight reluctance. He knew what was going on, but it still pissed him off that he couldn't take the kill. He kept his calm, as he scanned the battlefield, finally drawing his attention away from the limo.

A blip on his radar caught his attention, and he took the opportunity. His mech turned quickly, and he fired upon one remaining Mora. The bullet pierced the cockpit, and it fell to the ground, lifeless. The gunfire was still evident, though there was nothing Alaric truly needed to take out anymore. As soon as the infantry was done, they would place the charges and leave. Alaric sat back, waiting for the green light to leave. Until then, there was nothing to do... He kept staring out the camera, as the massacre raged on.

From Felix's console an interesting noise sounded. People stopped what they were doing for a moment and looked at him,

"Felix, what the hell was that?"

Felix smiled,

"Just a sound file from Pac-Man."

The man looked confused,

"What is 'Pac-Man?"

"It's as close as you can get to an ancient video-game."

Replied another man.

"We've got a signal... Mora- They're gone?"

A man was staring in confusion at his monitor, a few dots appeared on it,

"They're back Mora's west of your posi- What the hell!? They're gone again!"

Felix glanced at the console and said, more to himself than anyone else,

"Interference or we're being jammed... Alaric, stay on guard, I don't know if it's just interference or if someone's trying to be sneaky but I'm going to assume the latter."

Felix leaned back in his chair casually and closed his eyes,

"This is interesting."

"All units!" a voice crackled in through Tim's headset, "This is ground patrol unit! Red Star hideout is a civilian oil refinery!"
"s**t!" Tim turned his mech toward the blips that had just started appearing.
"GHOST forces are taking no prisoners," the man continued, "Jesus they're killing everyone."
"Do you have the remaining civilians secure?" Tim asked.
"Negative. We have civilians in town holed up in their houses mostly, but we can't get close enough to the refinery."
Tim paused, then said, "Two and Six, follow me. We're going to clear the area so ground troops can get in. Copy that?"
"10-4," Two said.
Six grunted his consent, and the ground patrol man agreed.
"OK," Tim began, "Six, I want you to lay down suppressive fire. Take down all the Moras you can." He furiously studied the map. "Two, I want you to come in with me in close combat." He directed his mech to pull out a large metal shaft from a placement in his leg. "I'll go for the leader." Blue light spurted up from it, creating a large broadsword, sparking and glowing with the Vector energy.
Mantierez went down on one knee and brought his rifle up. Almost immediately he started firing.
Tim put the juice on and rocketed forward onto the main battle field, firing his small vulcan guns on the mechs head. A Mora swung his rifle up and started firing. At Tim's command, Zero Hour put focused shield strength on it's front, and the bullets bounced harmlessly off. Tim threw his right arm forward and a gleaming golden-tipped claw flew off Zero Hour's wrist, attached by a long wire. It slammed into the Mora and sliced right through. Tim jerked his arm back and the wire ripped up through the head of the mech and snaked back to Zero Hour, locking into place again. Another Mora ran toward him, only to be mowed down by a blast of fire from Devi. Tim looked to see him slam his huge shield into a Mora and shoot out it's chest at point blank. A Mora's head far to his right exploded; Mantierez's handiwork.
Tim finally saw the Strygas he was looking for. He pressed a button and a chute on his mechs side popped out. At the same time, his vision switched to infrared. A small device shot from the chute and arced into the air and landed at the Strygas feet, exploding on impact with a blinding light. Interference reared into Zero Hour's screens, but it had been designed for it and kept most of it out, and the IR allowed him to still see mostly regularly. Tim swung the huge sword in a sweep at the Strygas.

Enemy device detected, Type 0089-E Flash Grenade... Shutting down optics... a computerized voice said. Alaric found himself marveling at GHOSTs mech AI. He never would have manually done that. He needed to work on his reflexes a bit more, it seemed... He found himself silently thanking Felix for the technology. He wondered if Moras had that feature.

... Optics restored... the voice said as the camera view reset a tenth of a second after the grenade's detonation. A mech was coming at him.

"s**t, that's a Stryzga!" Alaric shouted as his mech jumped back, his right arm's energy blade appearing as he aimed with the energy rifle in his left arm, firing at the new mech's feet. "Felix, how in the hell did the enemy get Stryzgas?!"

Sergei slid back, looking ready to fire explosive rounds. Instead of firing at the new Stryzga, he fired at the support, the other Moras. Large explosions erupted. Alaric couldn't tell if he hit them or not, but odds were they got some splash damage.

The ground units started retreating. The charges had to be set, or the order to retreat was given. Alaric didn't know. His priority was to take this man out. His blade was ready, in case his rifle attacks missed...

Tim underestimated both his opponent's reactions and the weight of the new sword. When his blade missed, it swung down and pulled him nearly ninty degrees.
"Gah!" Tim exclaimed, trying to right himself. He felt a sudden jolt and a red indicator flashed on his screen. The Vector shield had been too slow readjusting and a few shots got through, damaging his right leg. He could see Devi getting up from a crouch where his two shield blocked him from a large explosion, but Mantierez was recovering from the blast that he had nothing to protect him from. His advanced targeting system was damaged, and he was now firing at the other Stryzga with less accurate shots.
"Six, you keep the other Mora's at bay! Two, engage that Stryzga and keep it busy!"
Mantierez turned his gun and began laying down suppressive fire on the other mechs. Devi brought up his left shield and his Gatling gun, firing at the other Stryzga in a well planned arch.
Tim quickly pointed his mech's right arm at the enemy Stryzga. At the same time he spoke into the mic again. "Ground troops! Try to make your way into the refinery. Mask your movements and get the civilians out of there." He fired off the CLAW straight at it's chest.

These men were very coordinated, it seemed. This battle was going to be intense. Sergei kept firing explosives, this time attacking the man with the Gatling cannon with a series of five explosive rounds, the last two of those being very large explosions. Sergei wasn't just powerful; he had some brains to back him up too.

In the meantime, Alaric's reflexes were put to the test. A quick boost of his thrusters, and he avoided the ballistic rounds from the cannon. However, the claw was a weapon he had never encountered before. He revved up his Gatling cannon, firing at the claw to shoot it down, but unsuccessfully. With another quick boost, he barely escaped the claw. However, his shoulder gun was still caught by it, and was ripped from it's socket. He was now down a weapon.

Moongleam slid backwards as it landed. Hopefully Sergei had the Moras. If that was the case, then Alaric knew he had the upper hand in this battle. With that in mind, he grinned, activated his boosters and sliding towards him, firing his rifle as he approached, then going in a circle around him. Once he got close enough, if he got close enough, he decided he would use his blade...

"A Stryzga... "

Felix sat up, a smile spread across his face,

"Now things are interesting"

Felix stood and walked over to an intercom,

"Nadia, activate the new ECCM please."

An officer glared at him,

"What the Hell do you think you're doing Felix, no communications with anyone outside of mission control. I'll have y-"

"Do you want to us to lose?"

"We don't need pure radar to win, we have them outnum-"

Felix's smile dropped and a cold gleam arose in his eyes,

"You will allow me to do this."

"Why shoul-"

The man silenced himself, he hadn't even noticed Felix pull the gun from it's holster.

"Now then, you will allow me to observe that Stryzga or I will kill you. Now then, Nadia, activate it... If you really feel like watching over there go ahead, but don't let the others see."

Nadia's voice came back somewhat shaken,

"Felix... you just threatened an officer."

"Have you forgotten what G.H.O.S.T. is? We are not a military we are a group of mercenaries, nothing more. Now enough of this, get the ECCM active now."

"Understood."

A moment later the interference dissipated. Felix switched all of his own monitors to view the cameras of their Two Stryzgas and the radar in their combat area.

"Alaric, Sergei if you can please try not to completely destroy it, I want to compare their technology to our own..."

Felix's eyes almost smiled by themselves when he saw the claw,

"Now there's another interesting weapon."

Another officer nodded to an order,

"All units, take out the refinery and retreat immediately, A large group of Red Star units are approaching from the south."

Felix grudgingly looked at the overhead map, his eyes widened slightly, An army of icons on the map were moving slowly north.

"Sergei destroy the refinery, one shot should set off the charges. Use the explosion to cover your escape. Alaric, keep the Stryzga and Moras off of him until the refinery is blown then get out of there."

Felix looked at the monitor somewhat calm for a moment then flung his chair across the room with a yell.

"Why is it always when something interesting happens?"
PostPosted: Mon May 12, 2008 11:58 am

"Yes!" Tim exclaimed as his CLAW ripped off the Stryzgas' shoulder. His good cheer faltered as the suit barely faltered and started running around him firing his rifle. Tim boosted in the opposite direction as his CLAW reeled back in. His suit wobbled on the wounded leg, but The Vector shield hardened in all the right places, blocking the rifle's shots.
"Uh, Tim?" Wally's voice came through the speaker. "You might want to get out of there pretty quick."
"Why's that?" Tim boosted forward, swinging his sword, sparks trailing as it went.
"We just picked up huge Red Star forces coming toward your area."
Tim swore. "Rescue team, you got those civilians out yet?"
"Nearly, sir," the voice crackled through, and he could here gunfire in the background. "We need a little more time, but we've got a house near here with a bomb shelter that we're putting them in. We were able to find about twenty-five. Alive, anyway."
Tim swung his sword backhand, now close enough to the other mech to maybe do some damage instead of just push it away while he talked.
"Well hurry it up!"
Wally's voice came through again, "You know, Timmy, if you need more time..."

Alaric grinned when he saw the man's attempt at a defensive attack. His Stryzga was in no way specialized for speed, not in the way Alaric's was. He had this battle.

Just as he evaded the blow, Alaric received the order to retreat. He paused right before attacking the enemy Stryzga, not going for the blade attack as he had originally intended. Instead, with a slight frown, he fired a few more rifle rounds as he thrusted backwards, moving towards Sergei now. He decided to play it on the defensive.

Although, Sergei didn't really need any defense. One round was all it took to send the area to flames. The thunk of the cannon round being fired was all the noise Alaric needed to hear before retreating for good. Sergei did the same.

Once the round detonated, the explosions went off. The refinery exploded section by section, each charge planted exploding into a fiery abyss. The scene was a disaster, Alaric decided.

Soon the two were speeding off, away from the scene. On any other occasion, Alaric would have made sure to deal with that Stryzga, though with the leg damage it sustained he doubted it would be able to pursue. Alaric made sure to keep speed with Sergei, so he wouldn't lose him.

Alaric leaned back in his seat a little as he piloted, opening up a communication channel.

"Felix, how far do we have to go before the choppers will pick us up? I don't think we're being pursued, but I can take a second look..." he said, sounding a bit tired. The battle took a bit out of him, it seemed.
PostPosted: Mon May 12, 2008 2:02 pm

"Another mile in your current direction. Get there as fast as you can, A portion of the Red Star group is breaking off and heading towards you and Sergei."

Felix looked at the overhead map, if they did not get to the landing site immediately they would have to fight their way to another pickup zone. Even two Originals would be overrun by the sheer number of Moras.

"Felix,"

He turned and saw the officer from earlier and two Wraiths.

"We are imprisoning you for threatening an officer without provocation and leaking information to unauthorized personnel."

Felix grinned weakly and let them take him away, he could hardly stand against a normal person let alone the elite of G.H.O.S.T. Apparently the officer had connections further up or else he wouldn't have even been allowed one Wraith to help him.

He did not mind that much, he would be released soon anyway they still needed him. However, If they decided to track down the 'unauthorized personnel' Nadia was in trouble.
