Zoet stared after him, comedic playing forgotten. His last words were echoing about her head, bouncing about like moonlight dancing on a rippling lake. Had he just said what she thought he'd said? Belatedly, she began following him again, watching him thoughtfully.

It wasn't that she was one to leap into such things. Far from it. She smiled faintly at the memory of the dashing Antony's interest, and his acceptance of her answer. But the way this stallion approached it was entirely different. It was much more... well, comfortable. Relaxed and gentle, and completely unassuming. She fell quiet as she trod behind him, following his lead while she mulled on it.

She had to admit to herself that she was intrigued as well as unusually comfortable with him. She studied what she could see of him, as if she could somehow strip away the physical and peer into his inner being. Alas, it wasn't so easy as that. Eventually, she decided that it was too early to speak of it Instaed, she spoke up finally with another question.

"Would you mind telling me more about your family?" She smiled genuinely. "I like hearing about them. They sound like...," she trailed off, holding back the words like a family I'd like to be part of. Instead, she finished with a different truth, "like a wonderful group of soquili." She pretended to shake a fly from her ears to avoid the chance that he'd see just how close she'd come to admitting to something quite so personal. She wasn't ready to reveal that much interest, not yet. Still, her eyes were warm when she met his again. "Could you tell me about your mother?"

The apple grove wasn't far off. He caught the sweet scent even though it wasn't very strong. It was closer than he had imagined but he wasn't used to estimating distances when it came to traveling on ground. There was a hint of something else as well though he couldn't place it. He would have to be on his guard.

He turned and smiled at his companion. She really was fun to hang around. It was so strange. He had never felt so at peace with anyone outside of his family and it seemed to come naturally. He had met others but it was always so formal. So.. expected. You were pleasant and exchanged words and moved on. Zoet was different.

"Well, my parents are completely opposite of one another. My father is dark with some colors thrown in and my mom is a complete mix. As different as they may appear on the outside, they are pretty similar when it comes to their beliefs. They are very loving parents, understanding. Never stern, never harsh. Then again, I suppose none of us gave them a reason to be. I have siblings of every color. I'd imagine it's a strange family to look upon." He hadn't really thought about it before, but when his siblings and parents were around, he was sure they looked strange with all their colors. "I don't know my siblings as well as I wish I did. I don't spend enough time in the area but I get good vibes from them."

Both the sweet scent and the strange scent were becoming stronger now. A part of him wanted to stop but he couldn't determine the origin of the mysterious scent. Was it threatening or not? There was only one way to really find out. He pressed on.

She bit her lip as he mentioned not being close to his siblings. As she grew, she was beginning to wonder if she shouldn't track down her own siblings, learn about them. Perhaps she shouldn't hold them responsible for their mother's betrayal. But what she feared most about that was that if she found them, she might find HER there as well. Zoet could not trust what her reaction would be upon finding her mother. Would she know her on sight? Eloran had never said anything about her resembling her mother. Most likely she'd just look like the stranger she was.

Distracted by her thoughts, she merely followed Daemon in among the trees. She hadn't noted his watchful attitude, nor had the registered any unusual smells quite yet. The enticing scent of the apples did, however, penetrate her thoughts. Her ears pricked forward as she spotted one particularly lovely tree with low branches up ahead. "Oh look, my favorites! Green ones!" With a playful toss of her head, she darted ahead of him, throwing a teasing grin as she passed him. "Beat you to em!"

The wolf grinned slowly as the creatures neared, the twisted smile reflecting the trail his thoughts were taking. While two would prove more difficult and he still was not at his strongest.. they didn't seem particularly threatening. They looked.. quite ordinary indeed. Perhaps it was just what he needed to get back on the right path.

He would wait until they got a little closer. Perhaps he'd let them eat an apple or two. When they were least on their guard, he would spring forward.

Before he could warn her of the possible threat nearby, she darted forward. Alarmed, he took off after her and called out, "Zoet, wait!" The sounds of their hooves hitting against the ground made it difficult to hear. He had no time to find out if she had heard him or not. It seemed like it was just seconds before they stumbled into the little grove.

He stopped to look around. The scent was still there, though faint now. The scent of the apples that now surrounded hem masked it almost perfectly well. It was possible that he was over-reacting. Just because he could not place the scent, it didn't mean they were in danger. The stallion relaxed slightly at that thought, but kept his body ready to respond without a moment's hesitation if the situation called for it.

"Well, this is it," he stated to the mare. "I don't think many know of this place as there's always so many apples here." Though he smiled, he kept his ears perked, waiting for any sound and his eyes continued to scan the area. Something still didn't feel right to him.

Once beneath the trees, she slowed and stopped, body tense and ears flickering. She couldn't scent anything unusual, though her nostrils flared. However, being brought up in a forest, the silence beneath the trees was telling. No birds called or sang. There was no rustling of feathers or fur against the leaves. Nothing moved. It sent a chill up her spine and set her hide to crawling.

Still unable to pinpoint the cause, she turned wide eyes on her companion. Something is wrong! She mouthed it rather than speak her fears aloud. Whatever was here that the other creatures saw as a threat might be intelligent enough to understand her. Or her voice might set off whatever lurked nearby. Either way, there was no doubt in her mind that there was danger nearby.

She shifted closer to Daemon, until their flanks touched. She blew softly, trying to find the threat. Aside from the onset of a fierce storm, little else would silence a lovely grove like this. The sweet odor of apples, both green and rotting, should have had the place bustling with life. Something indeed was very wrong.
