Whisper wuffled softly. He sighed and put his nose to the breeze. He froze. Then he screamed his warning.
"Back!" He cried to his mares.
He heard a growl from a bush and a wildcat stalked out. Whisper reared and flayled his hoofs.

Arina snorted and put both of the foals behind her since they were standing next to each other and backed up, forcing them to do the same.
Max backed up, he was scared but didn't show it, he knew that Whisper could take care of it.

Sundancer pinned her ears back and pushed Lucky behind her and Arina's back.
Lucky whinned. She was scared and frighted. She hid behind her mother's back.

Arina watched Whisper and the wildcat. She wanted to help and not stand there like she was helpless, but she also knew that the herd, mostly Max, could not afford her loss.
Max looked over at Lucky and then slowly inched over to her. He nuzzled her comfortingly, he was scared too, but wanted to help.

Lucky turned to look at Max. She whinnied softly to him and nuzzled him back.
Sundancer stood protecting Lucky, Max and Arina and herself.

Whisper screamed his challenge and charged the wildcat. He reared and the cat swiped at him with its claws. Whisper came down hard, hoping to smash it beneath him. But it moved. Whisper whirled around and kicked with his hindlegs. They caught the cat in the head, and the cat went down.
Whisper walked back to his mares, breathing hard. He nuzzled them and their foals.
"Everyone all right?" He asked.

"I'm fine and so is Lucky. But how are you?" Sundancer asked worriedly.

Arina nuzzled him back and said, "We are fine. Are you okay?" She looked at him, also worried.
Max looked up at the black stallion and whinnied to say that he and Lucky were fine, even though the mares had said that already.

The paint mare stopped as she crested a hill. "Look Azumi theres a herd. Now I want you to stay close by me just in case."she said looking down at her young colt. She slowly trotted down towards the herd.
Azumi nodded and stayed close to his dam. Ari and him had been searching for a herd for months. Azumi was almost a yearling now.

Arina looked up at the hill where she saw a mare and her foal. She looked down at Max and said, "Come along," before going over to meet them. "Hello," she said to the mare when they got close enough, "I am Arina, the lead mare of this fine herd, and this is my son, Max. Who are you?"
Max glared up at his mother, she was always introducing him like he couldn't do it himself. "Hello," he said to the other colt.

"I am Ari. My son and me got kicked out of our herd about 9 months ago when a new lead stallion took over."Ari explained tossing her mane.
"Hi I'm Azumi. Nice to meet you."Azumi greeted the other colt.

"Welcome to our herd Ari," she said with a smile, "Make yourselves at home." She swished her tail and walked back to the others, she new Max wouldn't get into any trouble.
Max swished his tail and followed his Mama back to Lucky.

"Can I go play with the other foals?"Azumi asked his dam and cantered over to Max and Lucky after Ari nodded. "Hi wanna play?"he asked the two foals, shyly.
Ari trotted over to a soft place in the grass and layed down. She watched Azumi and the other foals.

Max perked up when the other colt asked to play. "Sure," he said and reared a little.
Arina smiled at the foals and started to graze in the shade.

Dancing Flames crested the hill and looked down at the small herd below. finally, a herd to join! she said as she cantered down to hill. Dancing Flames slowed down when she reached the herd. She appcroched the mares of the herd and said: i've been looking for a herd....may i join? Dancing Flames shifted from one foot to another. her ears pricked forward, catching many sounds she hasn't heard, or known before. Her tail swished around her legs and lower back to keep away the flies. ugh, i don't like these flies! Dancing Flames thought. oh, i forgot to tell you my name. my Name is Dancing Flames, or Flame for short. you can call me either one. i really don't mind either one. after that, Dancing Flames was silent, waiting for their response.
