True... but learning Latin has certain benefits other than just the Classics. That's not to say that the classics suck; au contraire, they are brilliant and are a huge part of the language.
But, learning Latin also helps you understand English, French, Spanish, and langauges in general better, and it is more for that reason than the Classics that I'm learning Latin 3nodding

roxianna Latin sounds like a really nice language; I plan to learn it as soon as I'm fluent in French and Chinese...any tips? 1. Get yourself a Wheelock's Latin. When you're learning Latin, it's your bible. 2. Think about verbs like mathematical equations. You've got the root + tense sign + ending. 2.5. O, S, T, Mus, T-I-S, Nt= the mickey mouse song. 3. Est= Eh-st. Not the French pronunciation. I know from a friend that French will screw up your Latin, though pronunciation doesn't do you that much good. 4. Learn about the Roman culture. If you ever get to the Aeneid, and know nothing about the culture, you'll have no idea what it means when Vergil says the Trojans ate their tables. I'll add a few more as I think of them. Or PM me, if you feel like it.

But, learning Latin also helps you understand English, French, Spanish, and langauges in general better, and it is more for that reason than the Classics that I'm learning Latin 3nodding I have to give you that. The reason I took Latin in Middle School was for the culture. I've always been fascinated by mythology, especially Greco-Roman, and I love the Roman period in history. I'm of the opinon that the time just before the Republic fell was the best. Caesar's Gaulic Wars and Cicero's speeches. Besides, there's this fantastic conflict between Clodius and Milo...and political intreague. Clodius, now there is a historical figure with color. He snuck into the Bona Dea festival dressed as a woman...his sister...oh the list goes on. I just think that a lot of people dismiss the Classics--even the Greeks. People with go 'yeah, yeah, they're important' but they don't...love them I guess. I mean, Martial. He's fantastic. It's so...unRoman, yet at the same time, it wouldn't fit anywhere else. I almost feel sorry for Vacerra, he's so mean to the guy, but it's funny. People who just pass Latin off never see that.

Reasons to love/hate Vergil:
Eripunt subito nubes caelumque diemque Teucrorum ex oculis; ponto nox incubat atra.
I love that imagery.
