Jiri nodded. She'd practically been raised on the Jeedai heresy - it had been her bedtime stories as far back as she remembered, but she really had no proof whether things had happened as people claimed. She knew, of course, that Luke Skywalker and his family were real, but had they really done all the stories claimed they had? Or was it exaggeration.

"Have you ever heard of The Ganner?" she asked, selecting a story she knew particularly well thanks to its simplicity.

"Ummm." He debated this, shaking his head. "Never. Whats a Ganner? Er...The Ganner?" He'd have thought it might have been a persons name, but she said 'the' Ganner, which made it sound like something very specific.

((agh. Sorry so short. Wookiepedia fails me for this one))

"The Ganner," repeated Jiri insistently, "Ganner Rhysode. He was a knight during the war. You haven't heard of him?" She studied his face intently, trying to decode his human expression, and deduced that no, he hadn't. "The Ganner was a comrade of Jacen Solo, the Jeedai avatar of Yun Shuno."

She paused, debating whether she had to explain herself, and decided she ought to. "Yun Shuno was the god of forgiveness," she stated. Herself the child of heretics, she did not believe that the gods existed now. (Usually.) "Anyway," she continued, throwing in a phrase she had picked up in her adventures learning basic, "When the Yuuzhan Vong captured Coruscant during the war, Jacen Solo had something very important to do but he was being chased by hundreds of warriors, and the Ganner was with him. The Ganner selflessly engaged all of the warrior in direct combat and defeated every one of them. He said "None Shall Pass," and none did."

"The Ganner had no choice. He couldn't let the warriors through the door to the Jeedai Jacen Solo. The Ganner sacrificed himself to collapse the building he and the warriors were in."

"The gods were so impressed with what the Ganner had done that they made him one of them, giving him the duty to guard the gates of death. He doesn't let anyone who shouldn't be going back and forth between life and death through. No one can defeat him."

Jiri leaned back and supported herself with her hands, satisfied with her ghost story of sorts. Clearly, the Yuuzhan Vong placed more value on dying valiantly than getting out alive.

"OH!" He sat up slightly in surprise and recognition. "I have heard of him...a little! You said -the- Ganner and I thought you were talking about a thing, instead of a person. Wow, I'm sorry. I didn't know -that- much though... I guess I don't know half enough about some things." He frowned, frustrated with himself at this, as he considered the incredible story. "Wow." he noted again a moment later. "That would be really amazing. I wonder what he was like to meet."

"Yes," agreed Jiri. "All the old Jeedai sound amazing. I always wonder if we can ever live up to them, or if in a few hundred years younglings will be telling stories about us."

She leaned forwards and forced herself to smile at him, the blue-tinged skin under her eyes drawing tight in friendship at the same time. "We have to become great warriors so that we'll become legends," she said, and scrunched up her face. "There has to be a way to do it that doesn't involve going to the dark side or dying."

Maybe much later in her career she would consider dying valiantly in combat, but right now she just had too much to live for!

"I think we will. I mean they had the same training we did. " He volunteered, stretching thoughtfully. He didn't see himself dying gloriously in some battle, rather he wanted to be remembered for impressively -not- dying in battle, but just kicking tail. "I think we'll do great, and someday someone will be telling stories about us." He scrambled to his feet, tugging at the collar of his robe with an sigh and a grin. "I gotta get back I guess. I need to go work on my training some more..."

"That's right!" exclaimed Jiri, hopping to her feet. "I need to go work on the lightsaber lesson more! I haven't quite got it yet," she sighed, rolling up her pant leg to show him a burn on her knee.

"I don't even know how I managed that," she explained. "We'd better go, then!"
