Four wings... four daughters

Nikiana stared at the lab as she stood outside, delaying her entrance. How did she continue to end up with all these kids? Was it fate? Or did someone out there hate her for some reason?? The woman sighed and pushed the door open and walked in. Sterile whiteness hit her like a brick wall. Rather quickly, someone was scurrying forward.

"Miss Ledell?" The man in the labcoat didn't really wait for a response. "This way, someone's bringing your sp- child out." Niki tried to peer around, but all she saw were white walls and tiled floors before another man in a labcoat came forward, carrying something.

"Sorry, she was impossible to wake up..." The second man muttered to the first as he dumped the slumbering child into Niki's unexpecting arms.

The woman tried to examine the sleeping child in her arms a bit more. Scales, four wings... wait, four wings? "Uh... what's with her wings?" Niki asked the men, whose whispering had fallen below her detectable range.

The two men seemed a bit startled that she was even still there. "Oh, that's related to her DNA. She's a mix of Chastity and Sloth..." The first man shrugged. "Flight might be interesting for her..." The two men turned back to their own conversation, apparently figuring that was enough for her to know.

"Uh.... does she have a name?" Niki asked, trying to squeeze more info out of these guys.

"She seems to answer to Allete..." And now the first man practically pushed Niki on out the door. "Be sure to keep us updated!" With that, he closed the door behind her.

"Well, Allete, it seems we've overstayed our welcome..." Niki told the sleeping child as she carried the small girl to her jeep. "Looks like I'll have to redo the other twin room for you... Especially since it seems you won't need a crib."

The car ride home reminded Niki of her first child, Ala. Like Allete, the koala girl had slept the whole way home and while Niki had set up a room for her as well. About the time Niki had gotten tired, Alaqua had woken up and had seemed rather energetic compared to the tired woman.

Hopefully, that incident wouldn't be repeated... Niki would like to sleep tonight...

Now I know my ABCs

Niki sighed as she stared at her whole family gathered about. Reign was trying to get Cassi used to dealing with other kids his age, saying that Kat had said he was terrified at school and clung only to Kate. Apparently, the boy was falling behind in his schoolwork as well. So Niki and Reign had decided to have Cassi come over and Niki would work on teaching him along with her two littlest girls.

She's recruited Ala and Reign both to help her as she came up with an idea to hopefully open Cassi up a bit and keep him distracted enough to not be terrified by his two littlest aunts. Allete, specifically, scared him the most. Ala had convinced Bob to stay outside for the day and keep the imps and minidragons out there as well.

Niki had found cookie cutters in the shapes of the alphabet at the store and was now finishing up the cookie dough. She divided the dough into thirds and passed one portion of it to Ala, who was helping Allete. Another portion went to Reign, who was of course helping Cassi. The last bit she placed before Evelyn. The three older women grabbed rolling pins and helped guide the younger kids in rolling out the dough. Once rolled out, the kids got to make a cookie for each letter of the alphabet.

Each kid got their own cooking sheet and Niki was sure to label them to prevent any fighting later. While Niki and Reign moved the kids over to the table where icing, sprinkles, and all kinds of decorating materials were set out, Ala combined the leftover pieces of dough together and rolled it out to make some plain cookies, which she placed on another sheet. While Niki and Reign led the kids in singing the alphabet song and counting up to ten, Alaqua cleaned up the kitchen.

Finally, the cookies were done and Ala set them on plates for each kid. She let them cool while the kids continued to sing for a bit longer before taking them over to the table. The kids were excited about getting to decorate the cookies and went at it with a will. Even Allete seemed to have energy, which was saying something, considering she'd about fallen asleep during the singing and counting.

While the kids excited ate their cookies after decorating them, Niki smiled at Reign. Cassi was seeming to come out of his shell a bit. He even softly asked Evelyn if she could pass some pink sprinkles over to him. Perhaps if he could get used to his aunts for short periods of time, he'd be able to handle classes. Plus, Niki had suggested having a private session arranged with Kat. She knew the kindergarden teacher often did that.

While the two girls finished what cookies they'd wanted right then and had run off to go play, Cassi remained in his seat, glancing up at his mother, wondering if they'd be leaving soon. Reign shrugged at her mother's expression and gathered the remaining cookies he'd made before heading towards the door. Niki arranged quickly for Ala to watch her younger sisters before heading off to drive the two home.

Reign thought over going out and buying herself a car. She really needed it...

So, I've now got four daughters and a grandson. Man, do I feel old. Gaia's really messed up sometimes. I mean, it wasn't that long ago when Reign and Ala were just toddlers. Now Ala's growing up and hitting her teenage years and Reign's already moved out and ended up with a kid. Silly D-corp. I really need to talk with Alan about that whole deal... The tech even had the nerve to threaten me with another child if I tried interfering!

But now, the leaf has sprouted and we now have Evelyn at the house. And another corporation is following after D-corp and threatened me to take in Allete. So I've got three girls around the house. Reign comes over every now and then, but Cassi's scared of Allete and Bob. He's also still nervous around Ala. Evelyn, he seems to get along a bit better with.

The cooking alphabet lesson was a lot of fun. Now Evelyn sings the song really softly all the time. Allete was more excited about eating the cookies and was upset when they were all gone. Then she went and flopped onto the couch and turned on the TV. I'm a bit concerned about her. She needs to get out and about more... Evelyn seems rather shy, but she plays well by herself and can often get Cassi to play with her some when he comes over.

Ala's now pressing me to teach her how to drive and get her a car. I don't really understand why. After all, Bob's big enough to start flying her places now, but she still wants to learn to drive. I guess she's jealous because Reign's been looking at cars lately. I took Reign out to teach her to drive because she does need a car to get around on her own.

It would be on a Saturday that you open your mail box (if you have one) and notice there is a rather thick envelope stuffed in there. There is no postage stamp and a very vague return address. But you recognize the font and the company's name. 'Seven of Seven Inc' scrawled in majestic font across the upper left hand corner. As you open it, you may strangely find yourself drawn to the letter, there is a mass of notes inside. They read as follows:

Letter
Congratulations! You have managed to succeed in raising your child. (IE: Not killing him or her or getting killed yourself. Haha we kid of course.) We would like an update from you on the following:

Guardians Name:
Child's Name:
Sin:
Virtue:
Gender:
Current Attitude:
Likes:
Dislikes:
Any abnormal growths: (if any, example: Feathers molting, horns growing larger, scars )
Current hair style:
Current clothing preferences:
Dominant celestial trait: (The sin or virtue)

Please summarize in your own words how difficult or easy it was taking care of your child. Did you manage to care for them in a kindly fashion? Or were you forced to discipline them?
As well do not be alarmed if you suddenly find your child achieving a massive growth spurt in the next little while. We are finding that the children from our facility have strange growing patterns and are rather unpredictable. Although please let us know if anything unexpected occurs.

Sincerely the technicians from Seven of Seven Inc.

Ps. Please just leave your letter back in your mail box one you have completed it our courier will pick it up.

Thank you.

You would notice the letter seems overly friendly...strange since the scientist were so ...cold before.

(Just take the from Guardians name to Dominant Celestial trait and pm it to the mule, the summarization doesn't have to be long just have fun with it.)

Mail time!

Nikiana was used to strange packages arriving in her mailbox and without postage or any return address. In fact, she first thought it was something from D-corp until she noticed that the company name was different. "Seven of Seven Inc...?" The woman knew that name sounded familar... "Oh, it's for Allete!" The woman carred the envelope inside and sifted through the pages within. They wanted information about Allete. Why did this not surprise her?

The woman filled out the form and wrote a brief summary as requested. She placed it in an envelope, sealed it, and carried it back out to the mailbox.

Form
Guardians Name: Nikiana
Child's Name: Allete
Sin: Sloth
Virtue: Chasity
Gender: Female
Current Attitude: LAZY.
Likes: Watching TV, eating cookies, sleeping
Dislikes: Being made to play outside
Any abnormal growths: Her horns are a bit longer now
Current hair style: Her hair's grown out, but she doesn't bother to brush it most of the time, so it's rather matted and tangled...
Current clothing preferences: A baggy, too large T-shirt, usually stained with something or another and shorts,
Dominant celestial trait: Sin, most definately

Allete is actually rather easy to care for, in a sense. As long as she's in front of the TV and on the couch, she's happy. The problem comes when trying to get her to go outside and play. She'll whine and grumble all the way out there and then usually just sits outside until I let her back in to watch more TV.

You've noticed that your child is trying very hard to fly, but...no avail. Afriad she may hurt herself in her attempts you feel the urge to contact the facility and set up a appointment for your child.

So, it's been awhile since I've written. Things have been busy. Allete had a flying class at the facility where she was produced. That... didn't go too well. She fell asleep. Probably from exertion. That kid needs more exercise... Though she doesn't seem to be getting fat or anything. Must be related to her DNA or something.

Speaking of DNA, Allete got to meet one of her 'parents'. And I can tell where her laziness and sleepiness come from! The guy could hardly keep his eyes open to talk to Allete. He's also where she got her horns and scales and one set of her wings. The techs said she'd get to meet her other parent when she got a bit older. I wonder what that one will be like...

Ala's still a teenager, which worries me a bit. She can get rather cranky at times. But... what am I to do? I just hope she'll grow out of it and fast. She and Bob have been having lots of classes and Bob's learned to breathe fire. Which is rather frightening. I just hope he won't burn the house down on accident or something.

Evelyn... is still Evelyn. She needs more friends. The girl's so shy, which is good when dealing with Cassi, but she doesn't speak to anyone else, really. I think the age gap between Ala and her doesn't help much. Ala's a teenager and she's constantly surrounded by little kids at home. Even when Reign comes over, Cassi is along with her, so I think Ala's tired of the little ones. She'd stay with Reign if it weren't for the fact that Cassi's terrified of Bob and still unsure about Ala.

My family is definitely unique... and probably rather insane. Sometimes I wonder how we all make it through the day...

Oh, it's been a while since I've written... I should really get back into the groove of writing in this more often... Guess life's just really busy. My three girls still at home are growing up and Reign comes to visit less often...

Ala... has had the least amount of changing. She's not really been doing much other than her normal classes. She and Bob tend to go flying, probably to escape this crazy place. But I'm a little worried. She hasn't seemed to be making many new friends.

Evelyn has grown and I was a little worried about what happened at the Halloween party. All the kids just... disappeared. But Evelyn said it was a weird place... different. She hasn't really said much else about it. She can't wait for spring to arrive. She wants to plant a flower garden in the backyard. I just hope the imps and minidragons don't wreck it...

Allete... oh boy Allete. She had a few classes at the facility (she still hates going there... what on earth did they do to her before I got her?!) and... they went okay, I guess. She didn't really fall asleep in either one (almost did in that spirituality one, though...) but crashed in the car on the way home.

Of bosses and dungeons

Allete was in her favorite place: the living room, sprawled on the couch with a game controller in hand. She'd finally fought her way through the dungeon to the boss fight. The room was fairly silent, except for muttered curses and the sound of buttons being mashed as Allete struggled through the boss battle.

"Alright, Allete. Enough games for today. Go play outside." Her mother suddenly interrupted, reaching for the power button.

"Mom! NO! It took me an hour and there's not a save point!" Allete tried to see around her mother's body and continue the battle. "Just... let me finish this first?" She spared a glance for her mother, then added "Please?"

Niki sighed. "Alright. But you need to go outside... get some fresh air... play." She was ignored by the preteen. She just wished she could find SOMETHING that Allete found interesting and would get her to get some exercise. It seemed her DNA prevented her from gaining weight (which she would obviously have gained otherwise, with the amount of just lounging around she did).

Allete grinned as her mother left the living room and got back into the battle, mashing buttons and trying to not curse at the game too loudly. Her mother wasn't fond of cursing and would probably come back in and actually turn the game off if she heard it.

An hour later, Niki poked her head back into the living room, still hearing the game's music. She eyed what was going on on the screen for a moment. "This doesn't look like the boss battle anymore..."

Allete gave a start and glanced at her mother, sheepishly. "Uh... yeah... uh... it's not..?"

Niki smiled. "That's what I thought. Turn it off. NOW. Time for you to go outside."

Allete grumbled and quickly ran her character to the nearest save point before turning the game off. She sighed and got up to stomp her way out the back door into the backyard, where she sat at the patio table and just stared at the door.

Her mother sighed and shook her head. "You're not coming in until I see you actually playing or moving."

Allete scowled in response, crossing her arms across her chest and staying put. She turned her gaze out into the yard, watching the imps and mini dragons chase each other around and around. They were so energetic... and she was definitely not. And this didn't bother the girl at all.

The spawn sighed and stood up, walking about the yard some. If she just sat there, her mother would come out and yell at her, threatening to take away her playstation and other game consoles until the girl finally got up and did SOMETHING.

Might as well skip the yelling part... The girl glanced about the yard as she walked. There was the one really big tree that Ala liked. It was empty since Ala was off flying with Bob again. But climbing trees was too much work... so was flying. She remembered the first class she'd had for it. She'd fallen asleep. And the second had been rather... interesting. She probably wouldn't have learned how to fly if her teacher hadn't taken her into the air and dropped her, forcing her to either learn or die.

Allete made it around the edge of the yard once and banged on the backdoor. "THERE!" She shouted and her mother opened the door.

"Thank you. See, it doesn't hurt you to get some exercise..." She got a snort in response. "Wash your hands. Dinner's almost ready...." The woman went back to preparing the meal in the kitchen, leaving Allete to go get cleaned up.

Allete sighed. Her life was so boring...

Journal Entry: 06/07/09

mommy said i need to write more. i don't like writing, but she's making me. she said i should write about my classes. i don't like classes. i'd rather be playing my games or sleeping. and i don't like going to the lab. mommy says they won't do anything to me anymore but i just don't like it. not at all.

but i did learn some neat things in classes. in one class, i got to throw knives at the teacher. mommy said she'd have reign teach me some more about that, since reign knows how to fight with daggers too. i can't wait to do that. but if reign comes that means cassi will come and cassi is wimpy. he scares too easily... it's almost not fun.

my other class... i learned that i can yawn wind. doesn't sound cool, but is kinda neat. i can like make trees fall over and stuff. my teacher said i could probably do tornados and stuff and make things for me to fly on. he called them thermals. not sure what those are exactly, but i'll have to practice this. dunno how it will work. will try.

i asked mommy if that was enough writing and she said no. she said i need lots more practice. i don't like this practice. i want to go play more.

mommy said i should write about my feelings. i don't know why...

oh, i met my mommy the other day. not mommy, but my dna mommy. my 'real' mommy. she was... nice, i guess. she had four wings, which is where my four wings came from. but all hers have feathers. only two of mine do... my other two have scales like my dna daddy.

mommy said i might get a cell phone soon like ala has. she said i might be old enough now for one. i didn't know there was an age limit on cell phones. why? that makes no sense...

what else to talk about? mommy said i have to keep writing. i don't like it. i wish i had a pet... ala has a dragon and there's the imps and minidragons, but i don't have a pet of my own. mommy doesn't want more pets around. she says we have too many pets already and doesn't want more. i don't know what i'd get if i could get one... something fluffy? a kitty or a puppy? i dunno.

i'm hoping to get an xbox 360 soon. i have a ps3 and a regular xbox, but the xbox is so outdated. mom won't buy me the 360 though. she says i should save up my allowance and get it myself. something about appreciating the value of money. sounds boring to me. plus, it's expensive. i could buy a lot of ps3 games for that price. i guess that's what mom was talking about. maybe i'll get one for christmas? but that's a long time away. i could buy it myself before then.

well, mom says that i've written enough. but she says i need to write more often. i don't know about that. maybe. writing is boring. playing video games is much more fun.

ugh! she said now i have to go outside and play. i think i would rather write. the outdoors is not fun. its hot and it makes me sweat. there is air conditioning inside. much better. but i guess i have to go play and make her happy. blah. oh well. i'll be back inside soon, i'm sure. mom just thinks i need more exercise. don't know why. i'm not fat. ala's the one who's fat.

... okay, mom said that was mean. but it's true. it is!

Juicy Gossip

Niki was leaving instructions with Ala as she finished getting ready. For the occasion, she'd put on a nice dress, black and almost sexy looking. Probably the closest thing to something sexy that the shy woman would ever wear. The sight of their mother bringing such a dress home had made her daughters question what was going on. Her explanation: well, she had a date. Of course, a date with whom had been the next question, one that Nikiana had avoided answering.

"Make sure Evelyn and Allete are in bed by 9 and you can stay up until 10. No sweets and don't stay up late. I don't know when I'll be home, but you have my cell number. Call me if anything happens. Or you can call Reign. You have her number too. You sure you don't want me to call her and have her come over?"

Ala frowned. "Mom. I can handle it."

Niki nodded, the movement making putting in the earrings she was trying to put in that much harder. The doorbell rang and both women glanced towards the front of the house.

"I'll get it!" Alaqua started towards the front door.

"No, no. Go check on the girls. I'll get it. Love you. Have fun. I'll lock the door behind me and don't open it for anyone." Niki shooed her daughter towards the back of the house before slipping on her shoes and heading towards the door.

Scowling, Ala headed towards her room, slowly. Once she heard her mother opening the front door, she turned and crept down the hallway towards the living room. She could hear a male's voice and then her mother saying something. Suddenly, her mother appeared at the end of the hallway, holding a bunch of flowers.

At the rather pointed look that her mother was giving her, Ala turned and headed towards her room again. She heard the front door close and raced towards the nearest window, which was in Reign's old bedroom. The room had been converted pretty much into a playroom for the three girls still living at home and Allete and Evelyn glanced up as their older sister ran into the room and directly to the window.

"What is it?" Evelyn questioned, worried. Their mother hadn't left them home alone very often, so she was nervous about something bad happening.

"Ssshhh!" Ala scolded her sister, peeking out the window. "Darn, they're already in the car- wait..." She stared for a moment longer. "I'm calling Reign!" She declared.

Evelyn whimpered. "What's wrong? Is something bad happening?? Ala, tell me!"

The koala girl scowled. "Nothing bad. I just want to talk to Reign." She left the room, headed towards her bedroom. Once there, she fished her cell phone out of her pocket and pressed the entry for her sister's phone.

----

Reign had just put Cassi to bed and was relaxing when her cell phone began to ring. She jumped up and quickly grabbed it, not wanting the noise to wake the puppy boy up. "Hello?" She closed her bedroom door as she answered.

Ala grinned. "Hey! Guess what Mom's doing right now?"

Reign blinked, wondering just what their mother was doing to make Ala call her. "Uh... working?" She went with a fairly safe answer.

The koala girl shook her head. "Nooooo," she answered, drawing the word out.

Reign picked up on her sister's tone. "Oooh, something good? What is it?"

"She's on a DATE!"

Reign giggled and flopped onto her bed to settle in for a juicy gossip session with her sister. "A date? Who's the guy?"

"That's just it. Mom wouldn't say. She came home the other day with a new dress and when we asked her about it, she finally admitted that she had a date. We asked her for more about it, but she wouldn't say."

"A new dress? Mom?"

"Yeah, I know. It wasn't something Mom usually wears, either. It was knee length and black. And a bit fancy."

"Really?"

"Yeah. And you want to know the best part?"

"What??"

"They left... in a limo!"

"A limo!!" Reign grinned. The guy must be rich! Way to go Mom!! "Did you see the guy?"

Ala sighed. "No... by the time I got to the window, they'd gotten into the limo already."

"Darn."

"Yeah... he brought flowers, too. I saw them before Mom left."

"Flowers?" Reign thought for a moment. "You think... it could be the same guy that sent flowers to Mom that one time?"

Ala had to think back for a bit. "Those flowers? That was a long time ago!"

"So?"

"So, if it was the same guy, why haven't they had dates before now?"

Reign sighed. Her sister just didn't understand love sometimes. The chimp woman would rather be talking to Evelyn at that point. At least that sister had a love of love stories. "Hey..... do you remember that one night that Mom didn't come home. And she called the next morning and never said where she'd been?"

"That was before the flowers."

"Yeah. But maybe she was out with a guy! After all, the flowers came from a guy and they didn't come that much later than that night."

"This same guy? No way. Plus, she never said she was with a guy."

"But she never said anything about it. Just that something had come up and she'd ended up falling asleep and that she was sorry she hadn't called." Reign pressed on.

Ala shook her head. "Reign, not all love is like fairy tales, you know. Plus, that was a long time ago. She probably had a good reason for not telling us at the time. We were younger then, you know."

"Not that much younger... We were old enough to stay home by ourselves and take care of the twins."

"Well, you were... I was just helping. Mom barely let me off with watching Allete and Evelyn tonight by myself. She almost called you to come watch them."

Reign chuckled. "Mom just worries. She trusts you to watch them. She's just worried that something will happen. She's always worried. She probably worries if you'll try to take them back."

"HEY! I was very little then!"

Reign dissolved into laughter at that. It amused her to no end that she could still get her sister for that supposed ice cream trip. "Don't worry. I told Allete and Evelyn a long time ago to never trust you when you say you're going to take them out for ice cream."

Ala groaned. "Will I ever live that down?"

"Nope!" Reign giggled as she heard her sister groan through the phone again. "Hey, if anything happens... call me before calling Mom. Might as well let her enjoy herself. She works too hard."

"Yeah, she does... she's always busy. I'm glad Bob can fly me to D-corp now for my classes. That's one less place she has to go to, at least."

"You should drop by sometime when Cassi is in class." Reign sighed.

"He still scared of everything?"

"Yes... and he's supposed to go visit his dragon egg soon. I haven't even tried talking to him about that. He'll be terrified..."

At that point, Allete opened the door, Evelyn following along behind her. The shyer, younger girl glanced at Ala. "We're hungry..."

"I want cookies!" Allete demanded.

Alaqua sighed. "I gotta go, Reign. I'll call you sometime and let you know what I get out of Mom." She hung up the phone and looked at her sisters. "Mom said no sweets. But there's some fruit we can eat."

Evelyn smiled and Allete scowled, but both followed the older girl to the kitchen.

---

Reign smiled as she hung up the phone. It was good that her mom was getting to have a bit of fun. After all, Reign herself was actually close in physical age to her mother now. Realistically, she wasn't all that old, but she was a full adult. And even adults deserved some fun.
