He could tell that Nathaniel had as good as flipped a switch, going into student mode, which made Jaden feel suddenly ashamed. Yes, it was all well and good to joke about, but they were supposed to be studying, and he had been enjoying the lesson before becoming completely sidetracked for a few precious moments...
...but in retrospect, he wouldn't have traded them for anything. Flushing faintly, he ducked his head and scrawled more notes on his busy paper, filling out the spaces of white, the entire paper a mess of notes now. All well and good, it seemed, because that was how he liked them, they were a map and an adventure to read over later, and seemed just as interesting as they had when first introduced, embellished like this.
"Soon." He added quietly, a promise to himself to make it happen, more than anything else. Gods he was fond of the British boy, the one who had accepted him, and trusted him...cared for him as friend...and Jaden would do nothing to endanger that friendship, surely.
Even as class began to draw to a close, he wondered just why, no matter how fascinating the less, his friend was more intriguing still...studying was all well and good, but to study with Nat made it ten times better. The tiny blond had had friends before...but...not like Nathaniel. Nathaniel was special in the best of ways, and no matter how odd they both might be, they had a bond, and Nathaniel had Jaden's unwavering loyalty.

Well, so that was how it was huh? It was all very fascinating how languages had bound together like that, simply out of the need to communicate. Symbols and cave paintings had become words and signs and voices. Most languages weren't even written down at first! And yet they had somehow made it through the enemy of time. He vaguely wondered how this had impacted the society's in turn and wondered how there became so many different branches. It seemed to have just... happened. Like so many other things in the world. A different culture, a different mindset, a group of people. It all changed the way things were done.
Even today, there was no guarantee that someone would speak your language and then what would you do? You'd be point blank stuck until someone helped with translation. As he finished up his theories and notes, he looked at Jaden one more time. Green eyes watching him, his movements, anything and everything. Yes. This was someone important. Just like language had been important, Jaden was too. Slowly, he began to put things back into his beloved messenger bag as he stood up.
"Um.... Jade?" the Brit questioned softly, wondering if it was strange of friends to be like this. Wondering if it was okay that he wasn't used to the whole concept of it. Wondering if... just this once... he could allow himself a little bit more of this boy's company. "Would you like to compare a few notes with me when you're finished? Not uh... not in here, but outside?" Wow, why did he have to sound like such an idiot? His best friend was his best friend, he could ask him things. It didn't have to be this hard.

At the very sound of the other's voice, as though it was Jaden's siren call, he turned those odd eyes of his towards the other, full attention towards the British boy even as the blond shouldered his own bag, seeming content with what he had by way of notes for this class. And then there was the sketch of Nat as well...
His face came alight with pleasure at the question, and he nodded enthusiastically, "I'd love that..." Though his voice was still class-room appropriate in volume level, the excitement within it put it on the dangerous borderline that would get one scolded on most days. A very odd response for the little scholar, but one that testified the depths of his exuberance when it came to all things Nathaniel.
"We can grab a bench." He suggested, bustling for the door with happiness evident in his entire manner. Jaden really was easy to please, well, so long as the person doing the pleasing was Nat, the simple things could cheer the tiny blond for hours.

Nathaniel brightened a little at this possible outcome. It seemed like things really were all right for a time. Things could be a-okay just this once. It was okay not to know how to handle things, because he had Jaden there to lend him a hand. The exuberant American that lifted his spirits and made everything seem worthwhile. As he finished and hefted his messenger bag into a more comfortable spot on his shoulder, he followed after him to the door, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder before walking out.
He had noticed the excitement, despite the volume of his voice, and was somewhat flustered by it. Why? He couldn't quite say. But it didn't much matter. This was the kind of thing he would allow himself to enjoy. The company of his best friend after a good class. Yes. This was just right.
