This is a very interesting topic. Personality wise, I've always been very close to the feline. One of my cats taught me how to be courageous and strong but for an animal guardian... the Orca has appeared so often in my life and in my dreams, I can't help but to think that we aren't in some way connected. I even share the name of one I respected and loved very much. I cried when he passed away though I still see him in my dreams.
And no, there is nothing wrong with having a hippo for a guardian. They scare me though, They bite sharks heads of sharks and rip crocs in two when they're mad. sad Don't believe me, look it up. You'd have to be an idiot to mess with a hippopotamus.

Faeryselene Cats are awesome too though. Besides whales, I also feel connected to cats, as well as black panthers 3nodding 'nothin wrong with it. Yeah, I should really ignore my urge to be different all the time. Kurisu Shiro Take a look in my sig to get an idea of where my connections lie. Fox... kitsune?

Every animal has it's own qualities that can call to a person. Hippos are just as good as any other animal (maybe better in some cases). Quote: Hippopotamus: Teaches how to move gracefully through emotions along with balancing the spiritual and physical worlds. Teaches tenacity, endurance, patience, and practicality. Demonstrates the power and wisdom of timing. Hippos balance and integrate phycial earthly properties with watery emotional ones along with stability and strength of movement. http://www.starstuffs.com/animal_totems/dictionary_of_wateranimals.htm Sounds like a good animal to me!

Pfft! People like that in bookstores make me chuckle. I watched one girl pick up an encyclopedia to herbs. Now I could have taken her seriously, but she just had that aura that she was trying to be tough to her friends in saying she was actually going to read it. (Do any of us actually read it front to back unless we're looking for something specific? I mean, really, really read it? All several hundred/thousand pages?)
He's uneducated obviously. The type of animal doesn't matter as long as it's something you feel connected to. And if it's a hippo, then by the Gods, its a darned Hippo! *nods firmly*
On a side note, if it were me, I would have asked what his animal was and then laughed at his choice. xd xd Well..maybe I would have. Hehe!

Kurisu Shiro I don't see how an orca is that normal either. Orcas are extremely sacred to Native American tribes of the West Coast. In many tribes, they're the most sacred of animals second only to the Thunderbird (who eats them o.o). Since totem animals are generally identified with the Native American cultures (though totems exist throughout the world) misguided people generally tend to just think you're supposed to follow staple animals like the Bear, The Eagle, The Hawk, the Wolf, The Dog, The Raven, ect.

I am very connected with blue whales =) I know it isn't "normal" but that doesn't bother me. It started when I was little because I was really tall so I related to the blue whale XD
I as well love manatees. I went on a jetski tour in florida and saw a mama teaching her baby how to swim. The guide said that was the first time he ever saw a manatee on his touring career( about 15 years). Ever since then it has been <3

Just the other day when I was practicing my scrying, I found out that my spirit animal is the "boar". Wow, I was shocked. I don't have a favorite animal and I had no idea that the boar was my guide. After looking up its meaning, though, I found that it was exactly what I needed. =]
And hippos are awesome, by the way. <3

Animals are animals. What is 'normal' anyway? Who has a right to decide on normal? Humans are diversely different, so are animals...I bet you can figure out where I'm going. For me it's cats. But I have a friend who's guide is a flying fox. Another with an eagle and a fox. And another with a swan. I've met several people with dragons..but I won't go into that. Is an animal guide even limited by 'mystical' boundaries?
