Pez shook her head slightly. The conversation was turning stranger and stranger... the television repair was long since forgotten by now.

"No.. Ah mean... Ah didn' tell ya my name." A small pause. "That name."

The adult shifted uncomfortably in her chair. The sense of something being... not quite in place was beginning to unnerve her. It was very small - like walking into a familiar room and not realizing right away that the chair you always sit in has been moved just a few feet to the left but being able to tell that something as different. Was off.

"Yes you did," Jezebel said. "You thought it, didn't you?" She smiled and smoothed the flame-colored afghan across her knees, then turned her face back towards Pez. It was obvious, though, that she was listening to something the other couldn't quite hear but she got very well. "They didn't tell you?..."

Pez's arms crossed and she looked down at Jezebel with a level, one-eyed stare. "They tol' me Ah had to fix a TV. That's it." She leaned back in her chair irately. "Look.. jes' stop beaten' aroun' the bush and tell me. I can't read ya mind."

Jezebel smiled back warmly. "But I can read yours. For instance, right now, you're thinking about your lunch... It was an omelette, plain, but..." She shifted so she kneeled on the bed and leant forward so her nose was touching Pez's. Her breath smelled clean, like spearmint. "You wanted it to have bacon and cheese, right?" With a bright, sprightly little giggle, she flopped backwards onto her bed and shook with little chuckles.

Pez jerked her face back as Jezebel toppled over, giggling like a small child awake for too long and on the brink of sleep. When everything was hillarious.

A shiver ran through Pez and she sucked in a quick breath. She had been about to ask the girl to tell her what she was thinking about... and she had been thinking about lunch, bitterly wishing she could have had something less plain and tasteless.

"Co-"
"-incidence!"

Pez blinked, okay, that could have been a coincidence as well. She'd just finished her word.

"Stop playin' aroun'."
"Stop playin' aroun'."

Pez didn't know what was worse, the fact that this was getting stupid and actually frightning fast or the aggrivating way Jezebel mimic'd her speech pattern.

"Alrigh' ya can stop now."
"Alrigh' ya can stop now."

...Pez glared angrily at the child, stuck half way between two strong emotions. Quickly, not giving herself much time to decide and dwell on her next idea she shouted something loudly. Something that this snotty little child wouldn't know.

"Mataeis Davies!"
"Mataeis Davies!"

As Pez erupted backward and out of her chair, Jezebel rose her hands into the air, fingers splayed out as she laughed mirthfully, like a child enjoying a game. Her hair was short and black, sprawled out on the bed around her, and her eyes...

Pez backed into a corner, bringing her fist up to her mouth to block the startled sound that wanted to escape her throat. She shook her head hard, watching Jezebel. "What is this?"

This time her voice was alone.

Lamia practically screamed with laughter, and she really had to work at it to make her own shoulders stop shaking. "It's me, it's what I traded my ego for," she laughed. "My self. Isn't it funny? I traded my self for your self. I'm like a mirror." When Jezebel could sit back up without collapsing into giggles, her hair was soft and downy white again and her eyes were that tranquil, pale pink and not... strange, as they were before.

"Who's Mataeis, Pez?" She curled her knees up to her chest. "Tell me about him."

Pez shook her head, still backed into her corner. This was beyond just strange or 'freaky'. Pez actually felt a small coil of fear in her stomach. There was something though... something that kept her from running away.

Curiosity killed the cat.

"Ya should know, shouldn' ya?" She brought her hand down from her face, blinking her one good eye languidly, wondering if the girl knew how she lost the other one, too. She decided to humor Jezebel for the simple sake of a newly developd trepidation for the young girl sitting on that bed, curled up and looking so innocent.

"He was my brother." She spoke softly, her usually coarse voice softening just enough so that one might hear the echos of the beautiful woman she could have been had her life been a different one.

"I can't know it unless you think of it," she said after a moment. She tucked the afghan around herself again, and waited for an answer. When she got it, her smile became a sad frown. "He died?" The thought of death wasn't so bad, as long as it was hers. Jezebel just felt bad for Pez, because it was the worst to be left behind. She watched her in fascination.

Pez looked away, eye sliding half closed as she remembered with an exhale. "Yeah. Car crash... ******** drunk."

She tried not to think about it as hard as she could but that in turn just made the thought-words stand out in bold red font in her mind. Bitter and upset, carrying with them so much disappointment.

He'd been the ******** drunk.

Pez shook her head, jamming her hands into her coat pockets, looking sidelong at the girl. "So what... they do some freaking experimenting on you?" The woman slowly moved away from her safe corner, over toward where the TV was. She had a job to do, if she finished it she could get away from here. The insides of the machien should be plenty cool by now, it felt like they'd spent hours talking when likely it was only minutes.

The girl looked sad, too. "I'm sorry," she said, but there wasn't any real meaning to it. The words fell flat. "No, I did this to myself." For once, her words came out somewhat coherently. It made sense to listen to her, instead of having to puzzle out the meaning of a freakish child. "I made a pact with a demon named Lamia. A demon could fix your eye, you know."

Pez didn't really think she was sorry, but she didn't care either way. The woman reached into the television set - indeed it was still plenty hot. She gingerly removed the tube anyway, making small jerky movements as she tried not to keep her fingers in contact with the burning glass for too long.

She was only half thinking about what the girl was saying. The only demons she knew existed were her own personal ones. "Righ', one with lots'a eyes, yeah? That'll have enough so it don' mind missin' one." Pez began to screw in the new tube.

There was a flicker of something out of the corner of her eye. Pez lifted her head jerkily - things along her perefial vision made her nervous. She couldn't see the full span of things so well anymore.

Long, black claws scratched at the floor beneath Jezebel's bed as the demoness emerged in her topless (though all inappropriate bits were covered by trailing downy hair) glory. Black ink dripped from the sharpened fingernails and splattered into the (undoubtedly expensive) umber carpet. As frightening as Lamia's torso was, the long snake tail tended to scare more people away. "Art thou questioning mine existence?" She smiled, exposing all those long and horrible teeth.
