"Because don't you think people would be scared?" he asked, innocently. "I mean, what if I COULD speak to ghosts, or specters, or whatever it is you think I speak to. What else might people think I could do?"
His voice was calm and sweet, a mellow voice that sounded innocent as could be. "What would you do if you could talk to ghosts?"

Surrounding by the comforting books on both sides of her, Irelia still felt a chill creep through her, looking at Antony.
"I'm not scared," Irelia muttered, her words braver than what she felt.
"If I could talk to them? I don't know, though it would be interesting to see what they had to say. I mean... You didn't look particularly happy, being dragged towards the mirror."
Irelia bit her lip. She really shouldn't push this... but she can't help it.
"Besides, it doesn't matter if I can talk to them. You can. Its your secret, isn't it? Ooo, I knew I would find it sooner or later! Wait till I tell your Ladies."

"Then," he said, "you'd believe me if I told the ghost of the mirror is reaching for your throat right now?" he asked, casually looking in the mirror next to them. "She's probably going to tug you in and steal your youth, or something... that or she'll just kill you. It could go either way."

Looking between Antony and the mirror, Irelia gulped. He could see ghosts, she knew that, but she had a liability. She couldn't see them.
"I believe you can see them. I don't trust anything you are saying right now, and would you really let her do that? Would you really let her pull me in?"
Irelia's voice cracked on the last bit. The lady could be pulling her in, and she would never know. She was in a tricky situation, but she couldn't back down from the challenge in Antony's eyes.
"Would you really let her kill me?"

"Well," he said, looking thoughtful. The ghost woman was just glaring at him, her arms crossed over her chest to show her irritation with his using her. "It would keep you from telling people that you thought that I can talk to ghosts," he said as if it made perfect sense. "Oh dear, she's getting angry... Really, do you think I can stop a maddened ghost? Even if I wanted to?"
"You are such an evil little liar, beautiful boy," the ghost complained.

Irelia was on shaky ground. She didn't really know what to do, Antony was bigger than her, older than her... and pretty much threatening her life. But Irelia didn't know how to deal with anything other than doing more of what had started the situation. Irelia shrugged.
"Fine. Let her kill me. Do you really want to have my blood on your hands? Do you really have no conscience, no moral fibre?"
Irelia shook her head, distressed by Antony's seeming lack of morality.
"Besides, you could of just ASKED me to keep your secret. Its not like anyone would believe me, anyways."

He grinned, then started to laugh, loud and clear, his amusement obviously real. "I was teasing you," he told her. "I'm sorry, I didn't think you would take it so seriously. Here, I'll make it up to you. Pick one thing that's under twenty bucks and I'll buy it for you."

Irelia snorted.
"Oh great, now you're trying to bribe me off." Irelia scowled, but chose her favourite book, one that she had been visiting for weeks.
"What's the problem with seeing ghosts? I see people's secrets, and I can hear books, to be honest. Its not like you'd be any weirder than any of the other patch kids."
Irelia can't let things go.

"Thank you," Irelia said to Antony, brightening at the prospect of talking to the book when she got home.
"Death?" Irelia asked, not really following, "You mean like, the mythological god? Hades? You know him?"
Irelia really couldn't help herself. She loved mythology.
"That is so cool. I'd ask to meet him, but i'd rather not, you know, DIE."

Shrugging, Irelia took the bag the owner offered to her, and hugged it to her chest.
"You might be, thats true. And unfortunately, I can't tell because you just told me, so I can't even find out if its a secret. But I'd rather believe THAT than you letting a ghost kill me, to be honest."
"Anyways, why would you lie now? Its a lot weirder to talk to Death than to ghosts, so you just offered me information thats more weird. You don't mess with me and secrets."

"If you're insane than you won't mind me telling everyone I know you can talk to ghosts. And since its painfully obvious you do care, and you're just trying to confuse me, I'll keep it a secret."
Irelia turned to leave the store, but stopped, biting her lip.
"Actually, I have been feeling something odd, in a clearing in the forest near the park. I don't know what it is, a ghost, or just a weird feeling, but could you come see? Its sort of... weirding me out. And I promise not to say anything to anyone, scouts honor, if you do this for me."
