All of Grayson's potential misgivings faded away. That was exactly the sort of idea he could get behind! "O-kay!" he agreed, starting to make a line of blocks to form the base of the wall. He imparted what he thought sagely wisdom: "We have to make it big enough for her friend."

Tammy happily plunked blocks one on top of the other, working steadily away. She rarely could concentrate on one thing for more than a couple of minutes or so, but she was determined to make the other girl like her. It came to her, suddenly, that since she was having so much fun building the castle, the other girl would too. Turning to Grayson, Tammy smiled sunnily.
"Could you ask her if she wants to help? I don't think she wants to talk to me."

Grayson would have been tickled pink if he had been capable of it. Instead, he was tickled black, white, and grey. He immediately reassured Tammy in his sunniest voice, "I'll go get her!"
So he went. Armed with optimism and good intention, he headed over to the little girl with the stuffed animal. He had the advantage of being much bigger and older than her, in maturity if not in days, so after a few hushed words he had gotten the little girl by the hand and was leading her back to Tammy. It was a reluctant, trudging march, but a march all the same. The girl clung to her stuffed animal with a mixture of fear, greed, and resentment.
"Madyson's gonna build with us," announced Grayson, in a tone that very subtly suggested this was not a debatable idea. Grayson sat Madyson down near Tammy -- not directly next to her, but near enough to see just how sweet Tammy was. "Tammy's worked really hard on a castle for your friend."
