Chapter Fourteen

Was there a reason that she was seemed so mysterious and alone? Why did my mother seem so obscured and resistant to talk about her past? I might find out in just a few days, or I may never find out at all.....But that doesn't really matter to me if I have hope for my future... I think that's what she would have wanted..

Amira
Age: Seventeen

I couldn't help but to continue to stare in shock at my completely unexpected discovery being Colt's secret. For a moment, I thought that I could pretend that I never saw anything and sneak away from the hot springs and act like nothing happened. I decided that would be the best thing to do, but instantly after I turned away to slink out of the hot springs, I felt an angered hand thrust forward and grab a hold of my neck, while dragging my backwards.

"If you scream Amira...." Colt's voice hissed out at me, seeping so closely into my ear. "I'll snap your neck here and now." He added on ,with an almost spiteful tone. I nodded submissively and turned my head back to him, while closing my eyes in the process.

"Look Colt....I didn't mean to..... I had no idea really..." I shyly reasoned and quietly sighed at Colt's grunt. He continued dragging me until we were deep into the hot springs and pressed me against a large, steaming rock. I don't know why I referred to him as a man while he was a woman. I suppose it might of been hard to imagine him as one even if he only wore a towel at the moment.

"Colt......I won't tell anyone. Honest!" I pleaded with him as he looked down at me in anger and fury. For a moment, his left eyebrow twitched but he never moved his clouded cold, robustly, yet feminine eyes from glaring down at me. Colt slowly lifted his hands away from my shoulders and grudgingly stomped away. "Wait Colt!" I called after him and clung onto his arm. "Please.....Talk to me.....Don't walk away angrily...You might do something you regret if your mind is clotted..."

"Why?" He asked bitterly, looking away in sadness.

".....Huh?" I didn't really understand what he had meant. Maybe he was just talking to himself.

"Why?" He repeated and looked down to me. Though I couldn't be sure, it looked like Colt was on the verge of.....tears.. "Why are you so worried about this? Why can't you mind your own business just once?! Damn you.....Amira....." He whispered and pulling away, leaving me to look at his backside. In just a few seconds, it sounded like he was crying softly.

"....Colt........"

"Do you now what it's like?! What it's like to have to sneak away to take a simple bath alone?! Or what it's like having to hid your gender and lie about what you really are?! Just being alone in the world?! *Sniff* No..probably not.....My parents....my half brother....My entire family just threw me away because I was born in the wrong body..." I stared speechlessly at Colt and gasped in slight disbelief at this. His family just abandoned him because he was a cross dresser?

"..........But I........Oh Colt......That's horrible........" Why was that all I could think of to say? I couldn't even find a way to say something as simple as 'I'm sorry.' For the moment I stood silently bit my lip as I thought of something to console Colt. "I understand Colt. I'll leave you alone if you want." I murmured softly and slowly turned away, to make my way to the entrance of the hot springs.

"No...please...stay with me just for a little bit longer Amira...." He whispered with a weak voice, looking down to the water and slowly waded to my side and grabbed onto my left arm with little strength to hold me.

"Alright....If you want me to Colt...." I stated worriedly and went over to the nearest rock, slowly going under the water to about shoulder deep while leaning against it. "I promise I won't tell anyone Colt. On my life I won't."

"I know you won't Amira....but I don't really know why.....You could blackmail me with that......" Colt whispered grievously and followed me under the water, sitting only feet away from while looking ahead.

"I shouldn't even know.....Honestly I would have never thought that Colt."

"You wouldn't believe how long it takes me to put on my clothing. First I have to put on some under bandages in that certain area, and then I put a mesh shirt on. Then I put on a black shirt and then my coat. It's troublesome to do this everyday, but I have to......."

"I'm glad you have such abnegation Colt....I'm sorry that your family......It wasn't right..."

"I don't care about them....They'd rather keep their cloth of so-called purity unstained and bleach out the dirt. They didn't throw me out only because I am a cross dresser, but my father (who was a giant) had an affair with a human woman who became my mother. I was just a stupid halfling cross dresser to them.....Why would they need something like to tarnish their reputation? So they did what was logical. They abandoned me after I was only a few years old....."

"Oh.....But how is it possible for a giant and a human to......conceive?" I whispered in an embarrassed tone, feeling my face turn a shade of pink in result.

"I don't really know the details, but it has something to with a temple hidden deep within some mountains....."

"Oh...." We sat there for the next few minutes while looking away from each other. I almost wanted to leave and check on Regjis, but I instantly jumped from the water to see it turning a peachy color. "Eww! Is there something in the water?!"

"Hmm...No...It's my skin paste....It must be coming off now."

"Skin paste?" I asked skeptically and raised an eyebrow to Colt.

"Yeah. Ea taught me how to make it. I make it to disguise my skin tone in case I met someone from my family. I can make hair dye too, but I don't think I'll ever need to use it."

"Hair dye?" I asked slowly while a light bulb began to glisten inside my head. It might be a crazy idea to do, but it was the only way to honor my mother posthumously. "You can make any color hair dye?"

"Yes......If I have the right.....Wait...Amira? Are you saying...." I nodded silently and stared Colt in the eyes, unblinking and seriously. He then sighed and looked down to the water once more. "Alright. I'll make you some. Call it a payment for keeping my secret between us. I know just the color too."

"Thank you Colt. I'm going to get out now. I think Regjis will be worried if he can't find me."

He nodded and half waved goodbye to me. I motioned the same and slowly waded away from the large rock we both leaned against. I took one last look back to Colt and gave a satisfied sigh. Perhaps Ea somehow knew that this would happen and wanted Colt to join us, or maybe it was just a coincidence. Either way I was kind of glad that Colt was one of our allies.

Chapter Fifteen

Where would I be without the support of my friends? Where would anyone be if they didn't have someone to share their thoughts and troubles with? No one can survive being alone... Lilica and Risfu.....Raymund and Ronald....Even Colt and Regjis have helped me grow stronger. We all need someone's shoulder to cry on at times. Even I did when my Mother died..... I wonder if she's watching over me right now.

Amira
Age: Eighteen

It took me longer to get back to the conference room then it had to arrive to the hot springs. That could easily be explained because Lilica had carried me there, but I didn't mind the lengthy walk. It gave me time to think. Who was the giant dressed in the silver armor and why did he attack? What was the thing he was looking for? Question swirled all around in my mind. So many questions and the only thing I had to make up for that was the lack of answers.

But the most important question I found myself pondering on mostly and wanted the answer to was who exactly was this 'Wrivolste' that the giant knight and my mother referred to? It was an unexplainable feeling, but just hearing the named muttered so ominously from the two giants gave me uncontrollable shivers as chills went up and down my spine. In an feeble attempt to warm myself and cease the unshakable feelings, I lightly rubbed both arms covered by the sleeves of the thin sweater that Lilica had given me to wear.

It was a cute style with red threading that ran from each cuff of the sleeve to the collar of the neck. The primary color of the sweater was a very soft; almost egg shell, yellow with small patterns of maroon that resembled an 's' symbol on the front and back. The pants weren't so bad either. It was a very dark ebony color that cut off just below the knees, but the material was a very cottony soft. Did Lilica buy this outfit while she was at Idyllic Port? She did have enough time seeing how long I was separated from her and Risfu. Now that I thought about it, when was she going to tell Risfu about the baby?

"Hey Amira!" A younger voice called behind me. I turned to find Ray only feet behind me, grinning eagerly. Like Ron, Ray had short brunette hair and blue eyes, but he styled it with a spikier cut while Ron left his hair straightened. This aside from the style of their clothing was the easiest way to the twins apart. Ron had more of a lighter attire of clothing often wearing reds and yellows, and Ray went the darker style with anything between black to burgundy.

"Hi Ray! What's up?" I asked just as eager as he, trying to hide how deep in thought I had became.

"Nothing really! Me and Ron were wondering what your plans are now!"

"My plans?" I asked and raised an eyebrow. What was Ray getting at?

"Yeah. You're the boss now. (Hmmm...Should I call you boss now?) Anyway, what do you plan on doing now? Are you going to keep the base here, or are we going to move the fort to a new area?" Is that what this was about?

"Now that I think about it, I don't really know. What do you think I should do Ray?"

"Who me? I think you should stay, but Ron thinks we should move on. So that's why I came to ask you! What do you want to do?" Typical Ron and Ray behavior. They never agree on anything and every time they're in a dispute, one or the other comes and asks me for my opinion.

"Uh...Well now. I haven't really put a lot of thought into it." That was true. I've had so much more on my mind and since my mother died, it's been hard for me to accept that fact nonetheless that I was expected to take leadership for the mercenary. What was I supposed to say? 'Sanuk is better fitted for that title then I ever was?' That was probably true even though he was the one that killed her. I mean he knew my mother longer then even Lilica and was more of a seasoned soldier. "But when I decide I'll let everyone know. Alright? I'm going to go to the library now."

"Ok! Don't worry so much about it anyway Amira. Ron was just being a know-it-all snooty head. I don't know how someone like that is my brother. I think I'll go look for that Colt guy. He seems like someone who has a lot in common with me (especially our clothing choices), more then Ron anyway. See ya Amira!" Ray jokingly murmured and waved a quick goodbye, before jogging back in the direction he had come from.

I had originally planned on returning back to the conference room, but after telling Ray I was going to the library, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to actually go there. It wouldn't hurt to take a small detour right? I didn't have to worry about Lilica and Risfu if they thought I was still taking a bath, but Regjis on the other hand would be another story. Though if what Colt had told me was true, then Regjis would most likely stay asleep for a while longer. Maybe, if my instincts were right about this, there might be information about the man named Wrivolste hidden in the library.

But even if there was information, what next? What could I do? It didn't matter to me then. I just wanted to know everything that I could know. I don't really know why, but it seemed like going to the library was the only choice I had. I doubt Risfu or Lilica would tell me anything if they did know something about it.

After a few minutes of walking silently, I came to the great doorway that stood before the entrance to the library. I took one short breath and quickly pushed the oak doors apart. I was never allowed in the library when I was younger because it was used to keep files and information on every client we were ever hired by. So Ray, Ron, or I were never to go inside out of fear of messing up the files.

The sight of the library was hardly describable. There were rows upon rows of tall shelves that bore all kinds of books. (Human sized books that is.) Where on Ziam would I start looking if I wanted to find any information?

I don't know how long I skimmed through as many books I could grab. Book after book only lead me to wasted time and disappointment. It was a very stressful and frustrating period, but I really don't know why I didn't give up and forget about it. I guess curiosity was getting the better of me.

"......found......cave....." I jumped from the unexpected voice that gave off a hissing voice. Was someone else here in the library with me? And if so, then who? I didn't know the answer to that question. Who could have? But that didn't make me stop searching for the source.

"....found...him.....cave......mother..." The sound spoke again. By the difference that the voice had this time from the previous time, I was definitely getting closer.

"Hello?" I slowly began, waiting for a few moments while expecting someone to answer. But no answer came. I took a few steps, skimming the area for any indication that a person was here. Nothing. I was beginning to doubt that I heard the voice in the first place. What if it was just the wind coming through a window?

I took one last glance of the area and it was fortunate that I did. I immediately spotted a book that stood out like a rose planted with lilies. My fancy had taken the best of me, so I decided to inspect the book further because what were the chances that I would find a book that look so auspicious among these account books? The cover was very elegant despite being a sinful black with an imprinted word reading 'SANUK: MEMORY ENTRIES' etched in golden letters on the cover. I had to reread the title of the book at least five times, because of how skeptical I became. I could feel my anger rising up just from looking at the name Sanuk.

"Of all the people! Of course! It just has to be Sanuk. Not Lilica. Not Risfu. Not even Ganatoa! But damn it all! Sanuk! Mister human hater himself! Sanuk the murderer!........Why am I not surprised?!" I cried out in fury. I wanted the book to be as far away from me as possible. I wanted nothing to do with that book. I lifted the book just above my head and, in my blind rage, threw the book as hard as I could against the shelves in front of me. I watched with a venomous stare as the book landed on its spine, followed by the cover and a few pages flipping over.

The scenery was quickly changing. The shelves slowly disappeared and were quickly replaced by large overflowing trees. Even the ground was changing into dirt with giant roots from the trees sticking up. The sun was brightly shinning down in a nearly blinding ray. I gave my eyes shelter from the light and called out to anybody in a panicked tone. "Lilica?....... Risfu!....Ray! Ron!....Regjis?! Colt?! Is anybody there? Can anybody hear me?! Hello! Somebody answer me! PLEASE!!!"

"So tell me Gina. How did you find our little friend?"

"I found him in a cave near here, Mother Felenes. He hardly said anything to me though. And when he did it wasn't very friendly."

I paused and turned back, my breathing slowing down in relief that someone was actually out here. Approaching in my direction was a human woman and a giant child. The woman had short blond hair and shimmering blue eyes, appearing to be in her very young twenties. Her skin was very pale and the clothing she was dressed in looked like a very religious and churchly style. The giant child walking beside her had vaguely familiar silver hair and ebony eyes. She was dressed in a simple gray dress and only appeared to be ten or eleven years old.

"Excuse me!" I called out to the woman and hastily walked to her, stopping in her path.

"I see. Thank you for bringing this to my attention then. As you know, not every human is very approving of giants. I fear that if this never clears up, then our two kinds may never join Gina."

I called to the woman again and waited for some kind of indication. But she never acknowledged me and kept talking to the child. I even went as far as standing in her way. But she simply walked through me. Like I was some kind of ghost. Was I really dead? Why wasn't anybody able to see me?

I followed the woman, whose name was Felenes. I continued to follow her (seeing that I really had no choice) and came to discover that she was a priestess who was in charge of a local orphanage. Apparently one of the children there named Gina told Felenes that she found a young giant boy hiding in a nearby cove, but he was reluctant to come out.

"We're here now Mother Felenes. See? He's right there." Gina murmured slowly and pointed to a large cave that gave little visibility to what was inside. But if you looked at it closely, you could definitely see the large figure of a giant huddled inside.

"Thank you Gina. Hello? Don't be afraid. I'm not going to hurt you." Felenes replied softly and slowly inched her way to the mouth of the cave.

"Get away from me human!" A young, but loud voice hissed from the cave.

"I just want to see if you are alright. Please come out so I can be sure that you are unharmed."

"No! I'm never going to trust a human ever again! You're all nothing but lying monsters!"

"I'll ask you once more to come out please. I can't let you stay here. It would only give the humans who live in this area a reason to attack you."

"........."

"Will you come out now?"

"No."

"May I ask why?"

"Because humans hate giants for no reason. They call us monsters. You're all just afraid of how easily we can kill you."

"Did the humans already try to attack you?"

"What do you care? You stupid creatures think a seven-year-old is a threat to you."

"I understand. I am Mother Felenes. Where are your parents?"

"Who cares? My fat slob of a father is always flirting with human hussies. I hope he dies."

"What is your name?"

"......Sanuk..."

I'm cutting off right here. I'm continuing in another post to keep the page length for the chapter down.

*CONTINUED*

The scenery began to swirl once more; my head began to feel very drowsy from the unexpected change. My head was throbbing and my body was feeling greatly strained. At the new destination, it appeared to be an especially stormy night in some kind of forest. The pounding of footsteps approached from behind me, and by the sound of how hasted the steps seemed I could tell that whoever was coming was in a hurry.

"Cinna!! Cinna?! Answer me Cinna!" I recognized the voice calling out as Sanuk's. His voice was unmistakable. I then spotted the rushing figure of Sanuk coming closer and closer. He wore a very dark vest and matching leggings. The vest was barely visible though because of the fact that Sanuk wore a long red coat over his attire.

Sanuk was running as fast as I had ever seen him run in his life. His face wore a look of anger and dismay. He looked a few years younger then normal; his three trademark scars were missing from his face and his red highlights could not be seen in his raven hair.

"Sanuk!! Brother! Wahhhh!!" Sanuk took off full speed in the direction the voice. I didn't know how I did it, but I was able to keep close behind Sanuk as he dashed to find whoever this Cinna person was. I didn't know how long it was, but Sanuk kept running until he reached the very edge of the forest; a cliff that dropped over a rocky pit of sharp rocks and the oceans waves beating against the cliff repeatedly. He never stopped to rest.

"Cinna?! Where are you Cinna?"

"Sanuk! Help me big brother!" A voice called from the side of the cliff. Sanuk immediately crouched down and attempted to lower his arm down the cliff side. I slowly approached the side of the cliff and gasped at the sight. Clinging for life on a small crack of the cliff, was a young girl with long black hair with red highlighted bangs; her pale yellow dress was soiled with mud. Her six year old face and silver eyes reflected the fear of falling.

"Colt?!" I cried in surprise. Cinna was Colt. So that meant Colt was Sanuk's half-sister....er...brother.......

"Sanuk! I'm slipping!" Cinna cried in dismay.

"Hold on Cinna! I'm almost there!"

"I can't!" The thunder in the sky began to thrash and fuss as the sky light up in a flash of white. Cinna gave a hoarse shriek and slowly let go of her place on the cliff. "SANUK!"

"CINNA!!" Sanuk screamed in terror. The look on his face at that moment was very different from the scowl I've only seen him wear. It was a face of vulnerability and sorrow. He looked as if he was the one who caused this. "Why couldn't I save you? Why did I get here too late?!......First Felenes and now Cinna...."

Somehow I expected another jerk to come and it did. The dark gloomy sky melted away and was replaced by the colors of a sky that the sun had begun to set. I was standing in the center of a garden filled with many assortments of flowers in a row. Nearby was a fountain that appeared as a mermaid with shooting water spouting from a vase the statue mermaid held. The sun was vibrantly lighting up the garden, which in turn gave the garden an even more harmonious effect.

"Oh Sanuk. Aren't the Radiant Gardens lovely just at sunset?"

I turned my head slightly back and gaped in surprise at the sight of Sanuk lying so calmly and contentedly. He was sprawled in the flowers, his arms crossed behind his head for support, and wore a pleasant smile on his face. Lying beside him was a giantess with beautiful hazelnut hair and sprightly jade eyes. She was very slim in a pale yellow gown which billowed just below the knees. Baby blue sleeves gathered from her shoulders to her wrist and tied into her hair a golden cornet.

"Yes. Somehow I feel at peace."

"Can you believe we've come here everyday for at least five years?"

"We've known each other longer though Rina."

"Yes. I'm so glad I met you Sanuk. You're one of the best things that's happened to me." The woman affectionately murmured and slowly stood. She strode over to the area of the garden and began to fiddle with a yellow rose at her feet.

"About that.....Rina...I have something I want to ask you." Sanuk sheepishly muttered while reaching into a leather pack that he had attached to his beltware. Sanuk retracted a small blue box from the sack and opened it quickly, unintentionally allowing me to get a small glimpse of what looked like an emerald stone on a golden ring. Sanuk took a small gulp and hesitantly walked over to the woman.

"Oh before you say anything! I've got great news! Look at this ring!" The woman replied eagerly and lifted her left hand to reveal a diamond studded ring encased snuggly on her ring finger. "Wrivolste proposed to me just this morning!"

"You don't say......" Sanuk replied. By the look on his face, he was heart broken by this and the woman failed to see that.

"I know! I'm so excited!"

"Hey Rina!" A giant was approaching from the farthest garden exit. He bore dark raven hair and dark golden eyes. He gave Sanuk a sadistic look behind Rina's back before turning to her. Then the giant wrapped his arm around Rina's waist and drew her into a kiss. While Rina closed her eyes to enjoy the surprise, the evil golden eyes glanced towards Sanuk, sending of a sadistic vibe. It was like the man enjoyed hurting Sanuk when it was obvious that he know how Sanuk felt.

"Oh! Sanuk! What did you want to ask me?"

"Nevermind............." Sanuk muttered angrily and slowly retreated to the garden's exit, dropping the box that carried his ring inside the fountain. "I know the answer now anyway........" Unless I was mistaken I could have sworn I saw tears in Sanuk's eyes.
