Tara nodded to Myles. "Welcome Miles." Her gaze drifted over to Lenore. "You're not the only one without a proper home. I do live here in a way because I work here and have a room, but I am a traveller too. I have... Well, I have some things I need to do. That require me travelling that is." She added. "As for where I come from." She said quietly. She thought for a moment, it was too difficult to really say, let alone explain her situation. "I suppose I come from England." She smiled softly, it may not have made much sense, but she had to be careful, even around lovely people. She didn't doubt that over time she would tell people, but it was a long time and she had to keep it to a minimum.

Smiling, Lenore drifts back to the table and beckons to the newcomer. "You seem a bit uneasy about the things you need to do, Miss Tara. Is there anything you would like to talk about, or is it too personal?" Hm... I wonder what her "I suppose" is supposed to mean... She brushes the thought away. "Ahh, but England's such a lovely place! You are quite lucky to claim it as your country. I've travelled a bit there, as well as seen a good portion of it from the airship, and there hasn't been a time yet I haven't wanted to claim a part of it for my own." She grins brightly and gives Tara a quick friendly hug. "Ah well, for the time being we can both claim here are home, right?" The sudden movement knocks Lenore's book off of the table, and a letter slips out of between the pages. Blushing slightly, she bends down and picks up both letter and book before (she hopes) anyone notices, and hides the letter in a pocket on the inside of her coat. The book she places back on the table like nothing happened.

((OOC-ness: [April 20] *pokes the thread and sighs* Seems as if I've acquired a habit of killing threads lately.... even though 5 days isn't that bad of a time period in here, I suppose... o.o" ))

(I was away all weekend! Sorry I couldn't warn you. I most certainly have not left this RP smile )

"Well... I suppose I am. Some things are best kept secret." She said thoughtfully, looking up at Lenore with her timeless sapphire eyes. It wasn't even a task she had been willing to do. Not that anyone in her family wanted it when it was thrust upon them anyway. She brushed her back slightly as it hurt slightly along the old wound. She quickly pulled her hand away and smiled as Lenore gave her a hug. She hugged Lenore back. Nowadays a hug was more than welcome. She sighed slightly, "I do tend to miss home quite a lot, but you are right. This airship is our home for now. And I am happy to be here. I will be here for a while longer too I suppose." Her eyes had flickered to the letter, and her curiosity took hold of her as Lenore quickly picked it up. "Is that too a secret best left untouched by strangers?" She asked gently. Tara had a good understanding of the need for privacy.

(( Just thought you might want an example of the kind of music you'd be hearing. Here's some videos of one of my heroes, Jake Shimabukuro < http://www.ukuleledisco.com/jake > Don't miss the video of the concert performance, it'll drop your jaw. ^_^ ))

Myles puts the instrument on the table next to him and sips at the pleasantly cooled beverage. "Say, this is quite good." For a few long moments he listens to them converse, but when they get to the part about secrets, he becomes thoughtful.

He goes to stand up, saying, "If you'll excuse me-", but is cut off when the strap of his satchel catches on the corner of the table. Still half seated, he pitches forward, fatigue from his efforts of the day dulling his reactions. Instinctively, he clutches the satchel to his chest as if to protect it, and falls onto it. A crisp sound of glass breaking punctuates the event, and a dark stain of liquids soaks one end of the bag.

He rolls over, wincing and surveying the damage. His left arm is punctured through his shirt with varying degrees of severity in a dozen places from his forearm up to his chest, and the sleeve is soaked with the dark liquids and spotted with blood. But he ignores this for a moment to open the satchel and look at the contents.

There are three identifiable glass vessel necks among the wreckage, and one of them apparently held a potent alcoholic beverage from the smell of it. He looks on with resigned exasperation. "There goes my aircraft fuel."

(Don’t worry about it! The little PS at the end of my last post was out of frustration, mainly – one of those times when it seemed like everyone else was ignoring what I said. Err… not in here, necessarily, but everywhere else, I mean (both in other forums on here and in real life *thearical sigh*)! xd And ohhh, thankies for the link! <3 )

Lenore lets out a little “meep” as Myles falls over, and a slightly louder squeak as she hears the glass break. Not good, not good she thinks as she sees the blood start to well up. Pale, she rushes to his side and studies him. Sniffing as she does so, she tries to smile. “Ah, alcohol? At least the cuts’ll be clean, if so. I think we’ll need something to bandage you up, though, and maybe a medic or someone to make sure there isn’t tiny pieces of glass in there; some of them look rather nasty.”

To take her mind off the blood and to stop her hands from trembling as she clears the wounds, she starts to ramble. “It’s not necessarily a secret that strangers shouldn’t know of, Miss Tara - not, of course, that I count any of you as such - but it does bring up some past memories, not all of them good. It’s from my brother… he’s kept me up to date – as much as possible, from me moving around so much – of what’s been happening at home since I’ve left. I didn’t leave on the best of conditions, you see, so it’s not like I could have just gone home again, nor could I really ever talk to anyone else because of that. We’ve always been close, though, closer than the rest of our siblings; I know he tells our parents what I say (at least partially), but I don’t really mind too much. He’s always mentioned perhaps I could ‘reconcile’ with my father, at least, but even he knows that’s useless. His newest letter is… rather troubling, though.” She manages a shaky grin. “I think you’ll live, thankfully, Mr. Myles, and surely it can’t be that that hard to get fuel for your aircraft. If there isn’t any in the city at the moment, I’m sure our captain would be happy to go somewhere where you could get it. You can’t be that willing to leave us that quickly anyway, can you?”

He looks down at his hand, which is developing an odd muscular tic. "Ah, no, my autogyro runs on alcohol, so fuel is never far away wherever there are people. I thank you for your concern but I really must be going now."

And with that, he picks up his satchel and walking stick in one hand, and ukulele in the other, and rushes out the door.

Lenore blinks, slightly stunned. "Oh, dear.... I guess he was." Absentmindedly wiping her hands on her overcoat, she wonders outloud. "Do you think it was something we said? He seemed fine for the most part, but left suddenly.... ah well. I just hope he's all right." Sighing, she glances at the table. "What a mess.... and he didn't even drink much of your lovely tea." Pausing a moment to survey the room, she begins to look sheepish. "Emm... I'll help you clean up, but I'm not quite sure where the things are."

(( Since this doesn't seem to be going anywhere... REBOOT! cool ))

Late the next morning, Myles awakens in his small rented room in a condition which feels like a hangover. He finds a brand new leather satchel that must be his, for his belongings are in it, yet he can't remember purchasing it. He dresses, takes up his walking stick, and goes out into the crisp air of a morning at altitude. He decides to head to the tea shop he found yesterday to help treat his aching head.

On the way, he purchases a newspaper from a boy on a street corner, his eye caught by the special afternoon edition's headline declaring a string of thefts perpetrated at several businesses last night.

Myles enters the shop and takes a seat, then starts reading the paper.

(Reboot, yay! xd *grins* Hmm... just assume everything got cleaned up/set to rights again and everyone drifted off to their homes/living places, I guess... razz )

Lenore wanders into the shop, looking forward to a break from the monotomy of running errands (and getting lost on the way to the various shops). "Mr. Million! Are you all right? You left so suddenly yesterday, I couldn't tell if you were or weren't. Oh, I'm interrupting your peace and quiet..." She grins sheepishly and holds up a flatish box, just big enough to fit a manuscript and a few other small packets in. "I'll leave you to read for the moment; the post and a rather mad editor demand this as soon as possible. I'll be back soon though!"

Reaching the doorway, she turns in a flurry of skirts and jacket-tails, and grins sunnily at Myles. "I hope you don't mind, but I've got a few things to ask you. Nothing personal, I promise! And never feel like you have to answer anything you don't want to, anyway; everyone has their own little things they have the need to keep secret." Twirling again, she half-skips down the street, muttering "Now what direction is that post office in again?"

Myles starts to reply, but Lenore is gone before he can get a word in edgewise. Just as well, he was getting a bit apprehensive reading the article. Every sentence seems to carry a vaguely disturbing import to it. He puts down the paper and sips at the tea he ordered.

The door flies open and Agnes runs in with pencils and papers falling out of her bag and pockets. She falls down in her chair and shrugs at the mess she just made.

(I swear this thread is cursed - every time I go to reply the internet crashes.... XD )

Lenore rushes back in, a little more than an hour later. "Oh, good! You're still here! I swear, I'll never learn how to navigate well around here. It's all how everything turns all the time. Can't navigate by the sun, and the streets don't run logically like they did back in New York." She sighs theatrically, and picks up a few of the papers on the ground. "Hm... a lady's hand... I believe these must be yours, then!" She hands them back to the stranger and smiles. "Hello, and welcome! My name's Lenore, his name is Mr. Myles Million, the Mr. part being optional I suppose." She flounces* over to where Mr. Million is sitting and sits down across from him. Grinning, she asks: "Did you have a good read? Find anything interesting in the articles? I hope so, it's so... dull, when the writers find nothing going on of any interest."

"Well, I'm fascinated by this article on the thefts last evening. It says the culprit must be a mechanical genius, because every one of the businesses victimized had sophisticated and complex security devices. But they were all without fail dismantled and disabled."

"Thefts?" Lenore looks puzzled for a moment. "Ohhhh, so that's what the people were talking about earlier! What type of stores were hit? Was anything taken? Well, I suppose things were, since they're calling it a 'theft' instead of a break-in, but was anything valuable-and-or-unreplaceable taken? Are they targeting just businesses, or private homes as well?" Uneasily she remembers the pile of books in her apartment that serves as both a door stop and security lock, but grins to hide her thoughts. "I'd like to meet this thief, though, they sound like quite the interesting person to be able to get past all that! I wonder who it could be, though, everyone I've met so far seems nice enough, and more than willing to leave things to their owners. But, of course, that can't possibly go for everyone, I suppose."
