There's an abrupt and rather wet thump from just outside the nest, and a brief moment later there's a quick flurry of movement as something quite small and indistinguishable is thrown in at the huddled group.
As the black and red little creature hits the floor about an inch from Highfog's talons and remains there, unmoving, it turns out to be nothing more than a pitifully soaked black chirop with bright red markings painted onto its wings.
One black little eye looks up at the sentinels, then the tiny chest heaves and the eye slides shut. A closer inspection will reveal that the little creature is not dead, merely unconscious and very, very cold, but otherwise remarkably unharmed.

The ginger-colored Parus was more than happy to burrow against the large fledgling. He twittered into Aspen's down, giving a jump himself when the thunder rolled and he was pulled in closer. Even from his place tucked away to the Wildtype, Catch tried nibbling at his feathers in a lax way to comfort him. A strange feat considering the tight circumstance.
Thump!
The Ghost fledgling jerked, turned against the comfort of Fog's warmth in time to see....
Splat!
Song squealed in terror, her brain not registering in time to what exactly this tiny beast was. All she knew was that it was wet and scary and had been spit out from the storm. She ricocheted off of Fog's wing only to pinball back and forth in a dizzying spin; a break from the worriment with some comedy. Song tripped over her tiny-clawed feet and crashed again into the Minder, before bumbling away from her and huddling near Sagebrush.
"It's gonna eat us!"

"It's not going to eat us," Sagebrush started to sputter, rushing to hide behind Songbloom, "it's going to eat you!" Clearly, the strange chirop who had landed in the nest had startled him. He wouldn't have been hiding behind a girl if it hadn't. One thing was for sure, though...he would never live it down - hiding behind a girl.
Boxthorn, being a chirop himself, stared at the one who had been knocked out intently. Was he a companion to another sentinel? Maybe, but maybe not. He showed interest in it, though, and probably would try and talk to it if it weren't unconcious. A sympathetic look gleamed in his eye.
Still shaken from the sudden crash, Sagebrush poked his head out from behind Songbloom. "Who's companion is he? Do you know?"

When the Chirop fell inside, the already paranoid Highfog screamed. "Eeeeeeeeeeek! Oh dear oh dear please kids don't get near that", she let out with a high-pitched voice. Her attempt to step back and stay away from it was vain, as the wall was right behind her. As she hit it, a small "Eeeek!" was heard. The teacher spread het wings again. "Don't touch it!", she said, ignoring Sage's question. Very carefully, she moved a toe onward to poke it. Poke, poke, poke? First, she realized the red markings weren't blood. Then, she noticed the small thing looked awfully like a Chirop. Finally, she winced: "Oh my, I think it's dead." As she said this, her knees failed to support her any longer, and she fell down on her bottom, stressed. Fog really didn't feel like eating now what would have been an okay snack otherwise. Besides, it was marked, for all she knows, it could have been a messenger. She was so shattered to inspect the poor creature and tell the fledglings it was alive after all.

Aspen was quick to move. The sudden intrusion was the last thing the nervously incline fledgling needed and he bolted out, flapping his wings in a wild manner as he fluttered about, pressing against the side of the shelter to raise up in the air to small height before he landed flat on his tail with a 'thud'. Grounded, he turned about, finding he was alone and bolted right to Fog, quivering with the mess of fledglings behind her. All of them where hiding, but poking their heads out from around Fog to look at the intruder.
When Fog said not to touch it, he shook his head. There was no way he was going to touch whatever it was. Looking at it, it looked like a matted bunch of fuzz. Foreign, like it was spat out from the Thunderbird itself. It was clearly wet too.
Aspen held his breath when he watched Fog poke it, before falling to her bottom and saying it was dead. That was good. He didn't need some weird thing trying to kill them all. Then again, whatever it was, he felt bad it was dead. Song and Sag said it was a companion, making the wildtype look closer. It....did look like a companion. "It's a companion? So it's not gonna eat us?"

It's going to eat you!
Song gave a wrung-out squeal and flapped her wings in a flurry of panic. All of her tumultuous fussing sent her pivoting backwards into Sage something like Aspen and his wall. Scrambling for purchase on the shelter floor, she tried to shove herself behind the Wildtype and switch positions again; it wasn't working out too well.
All the commotion sent Catch squawking up towards the ceiling of the nest, wing beats fast and desperate. With nowhere to land the Parus circled around the Sentinel's heads like a mobile, high-pitched chirps pealing through the hollow.
Companion? Dead?
The Ghost's tufts raised tentatively, quivering like antennae. When Aspen came near to them, Song wedged herself between him and Sage and Fog. She was top priority! A trembling wing poked incessantly at Aspen.
"Yer th'bigges'," she quailed in a tinny voice. "You g'check it!"

Caught off guard by Songbloom's scrambling, Sagebrush stumbled backward as she tried to switch positions. With a loud thump the young wildtype fell to the floor, flailing to get back up. Once he did, he raised a wing up in the air while trying to act as if things like that happened every day. "I'm okay!"
Sage's companion, still curious about the strange Chirop himself, watched the motionless body intently. Head tilting, he gave a short cry, and turned to look back at Sagebrush. This only caused the fledgling to blink, and then stare at Highfog and the others.
"Reckon he thinks that Chirop's still livin', just unconcious."

Apparently surprised, Fog lifted her head. "Err? Is he sure?", she asked, "Well, wait for it to wake up, then. We'll ask it some questions." After a thoughtful silence, she added, as she got up again: "I'd rather you didn't touch it, kids." The teacher listened to the noise coming from the outside. It took her several seconds to make sure, since Catch was right now a very loud Parus. Nope, the storm was still going on. When she turned back to her students, she flapped a wing at the small bird. "You, shush."

Aspen watched with bated breaths as he looked at the unmoving creature, but the drama from it's quick enterance was dieing down into the commotion of the storm again. It was then that Song turned to him and poked him to check the thing out. "Why do I hafta see cause I'm big? That's not fair! What happen to ladies first?" He said, poking Song back. His eyes went up to Fog. "I don't wanna touch it!" He said, pleading for her to say something, which she did. breathing out, he looked at Song. "See. We should leave it alone if it's dead."

Song began to puff again. She certainly wasn't going to touch the thing! She returned the poke again with a squeak, her feathery brow dimpling.
"N' what if't dies withou' some pokins?" she shot back. Of course, she wasn't going to volunteer nosing around that sopping mess of companion. Icky! Sage's Chirop's cry made her wince; she clicked her beak and turned to Mama Fog in question, "What're we gon' do'widdit? Ea'it? Seems mighty soggy n' stuff, but'm kin'er hungry...."
Catch settled down and landed with a click near the fallen Chirop. Whistling, he began to peck and n** at the pile of fur, wondering why it just wouldn't move. Come now!
"Euw! Catch, get'er way from tha'!"

When Catch began to peck at the fallen Chirop, Boxthorn fluttered his wings angerly and gave a cry to tell him to back off. Sagebrush frowned. "You shouldn't peck at it like that," he muttered, shuffling over to the fallen companion.
"And if no one is going to take care of it, I will. It'd be cruel to just sit here and let it die. Box and I couldn't deal with such a thing.." the fledgling exclaimed, sounding hurt and bothered by the thought of it. No. He couldn't just sit there and not do anything. He had to do something. Gently, as Sagebrush extended his wing, he rested it on the fallen Chirop. After all, noting bad could happen from helping an animal in need.

Frowning, Fog gave her opinion on the situation: "Calm down, kids! You should not bother what's the property of adults! And your properties must leave alone other Sentinels' properties too!" While saying these last words, the teacher shook a wing at Catch. Sage's reaction, however, instead of angering her any further, caught her attention. "Huh, excuse me?", she asked, in case she had misheard. Interested, she watched the fledgling get closer. The Ghost had almost expected the Chirop to suddenly wake up and bite the young one, but it didn't seem to move at all. "Err, alright", mumbled Fog thoughtfully, "Do as you will... but when you feel like it is moving, leave it alone, it might bite you if it is scared." This looked like a good experiment on life and responsibility for Sagebrush. With curiosity, she watched the strange scene.

With an ear piercing bang one of the tall trees surrounding the nest is hit by lightning. A spear of brighter-than-daylight seems to pierce the tree, splitting it in half. The following rumbles of lightning are close, but hard to hear for the nest's inhabitants since their ears are ringing. When the mayhem finally stops the storm seems to have spent most of its energy. It doesn't rain quite as much anymore. Is it over? No... Not quite. An even louder noise fills the air.
