Stormbringer's form relaxed somewhat - though his wings still quaked and his head jerkily surveyed the outside - and he even gave a nod to Hazel as he dissected her words, eyes narrowing as he mulled over the pros and cons. "We only heard one. There could be many more, silent...," he offered, then dropped his head, unsure of himself.
"Yes, there is safety in numbers. But sometimes... it is better to be a coward and live another day than be slaughtered in a vain attempt at bravery," the ghost sighed, shaking his head and looking between Sylverbeth and Hazel. His own father had told him that on one of the last nights he was alive, one of the last nights Storm had seen him.
If worse came to worst, could they handle it? Doubt loomed over the ranger's painted head and he shifted uneasily, eyeing Sylverbeth as he put forward a very good point.
"Yes... that could be," a grimace darkened his features as he agreed with the scout, and he found himself scowling towards the egg shells. I'd say let them have it... kick it out onto the forest floor and let them come. His thoughts dripped with disgust for the Spectre child and what dangers it brought upon the clan. He despised it, wished every misfortune upon it, and could even see himself committing crimes against it just for the clan's benefit - or atleast, he thought it was.
Storm held down his inner voice and stewed, a dangerous look on his face as he stared down the shells and the storm.

Hazel swelled a bit with pride when Sylver seemed to calm. A positive outlook was important in all things, especially a potentially dangerous situation like this. If they thought they'd be alright, they likely would, after all.
At Storm's word however, she grimaced. It was the truth, of course, and she couldn't say anything against it. There could be more than one out there, true, but if it helped them put up a brave front to think there was only one, she'd prefer that. "That is true Storm. But again, the way in is narrow. They could only fight one at a time, and we could do that. We could even keep rotating each other out if needed to wear them down." Another frown flickered thinking that whatever it was might be after the Spectre chick. She herself had no issues with it. As far as she knew, it thought of itself as a member of the clan. It hadn't grown up a Spectre after all. It didn't commit any war crimes in days of old. If it came to that, she decided she would fight for the little one as she would any fledgeling in Noctua.

Sylver danced around a bit. "So we stay then. Sounds better than trying to flee out into the storm anyways. Besides, it's true. We could fly right into a pack of those feathered freaks of nature." He fluffed up then smoothed himself out again. "Besides, I'd rather be known as a hero rather than a coward any day."

"We stay and ride out this storm, for better or for worse," Stormbringer grunted, ignoring the Scout's last comment, and settled into a quiet mood as he took to preening his flight feathers, just in case. He focused his eyes on the cloud-murals on his wings rather than the shells, finding he grew nauseous and restless whenever he looked at them.
The ranger's thoughts kept creeping back to what was out there, calling out in spite of the Thunderbird, and also how his Chirop, Meren, was doing. He'd left him at early dusk to make his rounds, and he hoped the little companion had enough sense to stay inside, or had atleast found suitable shelter if he didn't. The softer chest feathers were subject to repositioning, no real purpose behind it other than to keep moving.
Golden eyes lifted to Hazel, wondering, as he had never seen her before in his ranger-duties, what territory she watched over, and why she had chosen a combatant task. She had a level-head, and he was grateful for it, but he had his resignations. He knew Sylverbeth to be trying for a combatant task also, and he nodded his head more to himself as he approved. Atleast these Sentinels hadn't graduated and wished for the stupid, loud, obnoxious, least helpful - so he thought - tasks of Noctua. These Sentinels had real value.

Hazel settled into her perch more deeply now that the others had agreed. Let whatever it was try to come to them, they had the power of the storm with them tonight. She watched a bolt of lightning arc through the sky, lighting clouds and trees alike. She shivered at the roll of thunder that followed, though it was not fear that made her quake. The lightning was beautiful, she thought. "Streaks of the Thunderbird's feather dye..." There were many tales of storms, and how the Thunderbird made them. Some claimed the lightning was the light from his eyes, or the streak of his talons. Others claimed it was dye, and rarely some depicted it as the great bird's droppings. Regardless, the blue and gold twists were cold and hauntingly stunning to watch.
She moved a little and one of the shell pieces cracked. She looked down at them, thinking carefully. It might be much better to simply toss them out of the tree...But so far, other than the shells and the odd noise, there was nothing to say they weren't just harmless shells. For all they knew, this was simply the nest of some Serpe or Waral that had gone wild. No, just yet she would wait. As the next peal of thunder faded, she perked her eartufts, trying to hear any sounds of movement from the trees beyond theirs.

Sylver moved as far from the others as he could and settled down. Tucking his wings close to his body, he was prepared to rest up a bit in the event that anything might come their way. Anything... not good. He moved bits of shell out from around him and closed his eyes.
"I hope this storm passes soon. I could really co for a good meal right about now." he stated openly, not worried about making conversation, just speaking his mind to calm his nerves.

Storm lifted golden eyes to Hazel as she spoke, though he was unsure if she was referring to the storm outside or the one depicted on his wings. He ignored it for the most part, tucking his head and lifting his wings, beginning to rearrange feathers on his belly as the rain came in howling sheets, battering the wilderness around them. He also thought the lightning was a fair sight, and often found his eyes lingering on the bright flashes when they came.
"Enough prey will come out of hiding for you to have your fill, I'm sure," the ranger muttered between feathers, fancying himself a large rat or two and a nice quiet sleep once the storm blew over. He, like so many other rangers he knew of, was socially inept, quiet, awkward, and was one of those Sentinels you just wouldn't usually start talking to. Even though he was familiar with Sylver, he stayed distant. Wincing slightly at the scraping and crackling of the shells, he brought a few of the larger pieces closer to himself so that he may take them and report later, or atleast show them to Sly and Foxfeather - he was sure they'd be interested.
His eyes flicked between his company and the entrance, senses straining against the outside as he preened to keep himself calm.

Hazel began to relax at last, and a small sigh escaped her. Waiting was even harder than worrying, and she knew she would be stressed past her wits if she continued to think on things. For now being calm and cool would be best. And she did love storms after all. Ever since she'd been a fledgling she'd liked them, and the stories of the Thunderbird too. Regardless of this being one of the worst storms she'd ever seen, it was rather nice. She was dry, and not alone, for two points. True, the males seemed little company, silent as they were. Hazel was compelled to talk with them (atypical ranger that she was), but seeing them shuffle away she thought better of it. No need to make things here uncomfortable. Now if they only knew what had left the shells...

There's a sudden distant peal of thunder that just keeps rolling on and on and on, as if somewhere out there, the rain has momentarily been replaced by lightning strikes. It seemed to come from the direction of the Deep Woods...
