Though Guilian never listened to those that criticized, it was still nice to know that he had a defender. Or rather, ANOTHER defender, as there were a couple offspring that would be at the front of the line if they caught word that someone had so much as HINTED that there was something wrong with the way Guilian raised his kids. Loyalty was really a delightful thing to possess, if he did say so himself...
Even if it did manifest in weird forms sometimes.
His mouth in a straight line that didn't quite hide the twitching hints of a smile, he commented, "Call me old fashioned, Ariston, but I always felt that by the time one's offspring are old enough to truly be called 'mares and stallions', they no longer need parental supervison. Or are you referring to parental advice giving? Or parental blame passing? Ariston, have your children been participating in that 'my father is stronger than your father' thing and gotten you roped into an altercation of sorts? If you want me to stand in for you, you can always just ASK rather than playing these coy little games with me!"
To say that Guilian's interpretation was outrageous would be putting it mildly; however, as he wasn't in the least bit serious, outrageous was fine. Besides, it sounded like Ariston needed something outrageous at the moment; now that Guilian was no longer morose, Ariston had picked up the slack. A relationship, indeed...
So he simply patted Ariston's shoulder, commenting "Yes, well, there are more mares out there than the ones determined to settle down, my friend, and a stallion of your caliber could easily have his pick. You've just been in the wrong place lately, that's all."

"Well, I only meant that I would pawn my children off on you if anything happened." With a usual wink, he only stared at Guilian for a moment before continuing on. "I don't mean to be coy, so I apologize. I am just stating how it is!" And damn, even stating such was awkward for Ariston! He didn't think that anything would actually happen to him, but father's needed to plan, didn't they?
"Oh please, don't make excuses for me. Now your just being too kind." Seriously though, his laziness was his own fault, and he was avoiding the confrontation of females on his own accord. "For some reason though, I am not ashamed. I've been happy spacing out lately. Goodness.." he paused, realizing his thoughts were going in circles at this point. "That is totally a sign of aging, what the hell is up with that!" Smacking his hoof to the ground, Ariston then walked a few steps away from Guilian before laughing to himself after his dramatic display.
"Let's go fly. Seriously, the day is too nice to be walking around like this." Pfft, and Guilian and Ariston were most happy in the air anyways! "I'll keep aging if I walk around this slowly all the time." Not even waiting for his friend's response, Ariston undid his wings while preparing himself for a relaxing flight. "I'll see you up there?"
And with that he only smiled before making his way up into the sky, knowing fully well that a change of pace would be good for his body and mind.

When in doubt or uncomfortable, simply avoid the problem. Yes, that was a solution that had ever been Guilian and Ariston's friend, so Guilian couldn't say that he was surprised to see it employed again.
Besides, it WAS rather silly to walk when they both had wings and the day was so lovely.
So rather than waste time responding, Guilian simply spread wide his own wings, shook them once, then with a graceful running start took to the air himself. Sometimes, conversation was important; then there were other times when all you needed to say could be summed up in a nod.
Perhaps aging wasn't all bad. After all, with age come understanding, maturity, and, if you're lucky, time-tested friendship.
