Alyna laughed. "Well, to be honest, we didn't really know what they were at the time. We had just heard about them, you see, and we didn't really understand what exactly they were. I've met a half-Kalona, but not a Skinwalker or a pure Kalona. I know enough about them to keep my distance. However, I'm not going to give up on my belief that they could be nice just yet, though."
Alyna looked around for Lyka, but saw nothing. "Lyka's traveling with me yes, but I don't technically 'have' her. She's with me by choice, you see. She chose to come along with me to keep me company. And she doesn't lecture me so much anymore. She figures that I'm old enough to make decisions for myself." Alyna grinned, a mischievous look appearing in her eyes, remarkably like her mother's, and said, "So, you've never met a wolf before? Well, then, I think it's going to be very interesting when you two meet each other."

"Oh no I didn't mean like a pet or that you owned her. I guess I should have said it's cool that you have a wolf as a friend. Sorry if it sounded rude. I'm excited to meet her though if I get the chance. New experiences are always fun." Mel stopped for a minute and layed down to roll in the grass to scratch his back. "I've never met even a half kalona let alone a full. Mother said I have a half brother though that has a kalona tail. Never met him though. Don't tell me you've met THAT brother too!" he laughed, obviously joking since he had no idea that she had met Haya.

"Not unless his name is Haya." Alyna said, giggling a bit. "I ran into him one day when his barbed tail got caught in a fallen tree. He was really nice. He's the one who helped me see that it doesn't matter what kind of blood you have, that you choose whether to be nice or mean." Alyna smiled, remembering the silly smile that Haya had to match his kind personality.

Mel flipped over and just stared at her, with unbelieving eyes. "You've met Haya too?? You're starting to know my own family better than I do! Oi, this sure is some interesting day. Haya sounds very nice though, just like mother. I'll have to go and find him one of these days and meet him for myself."

Alyna laughed. "You mean Haya's your half-brother? Wow, I didn't realize that you and Karma were related to Haya!" Alyna smiled, and continued, "You should go meet him one day. He's really friendly, but he's a bit hurt I think that when Soquili look at him all they see is the Kalona blood. He was nice to me anyway, even when I was afraid of him, though. I think it was because I was a foal, and I didn't know any better." Alyna grinned at Mel. "You know, when I first saw you, I didn't realize that I knew any of your family members. I agree, this has turned out to be one very interesting day!"

"I bet he is friendly. That's probably why he told you your blood doesn't make you who you are. I think it'd be kinda cool to have a spaded tail. Good defense if anything tries to hurt you, don't you think? Just smack 'em upside the head," he laughed. "Or a horn. A horn would be pretty handy too..but I'm getting off track." He flopped back over onto his side and heaved out a sigh. "Today's definitely been interesting, I have to admit. Won't be forgetting the day I met the spotted mare that knows more of my own family than I do," he laughed again.

Alyna laughed with him. "Mel, I don't think I know more of your family than you do. I don't know your parents, or your sister. I also don't know if Haya has any siblings." She chuckled softly. "And I don't think I'll forget you, either!" Alyna knew that she'd remember this stallion that was related to so many of her friends.
Pondering over his first statements, she added, "Personally, I think the tail's probably more useful than the horn, just because the spaded tail can lash around like a whip, and defend or attack from all sides."

"That's true. You really should see our parents, they're quite the couple. Mom is really colorful, she probably has every color that's out there on her and dad has the biggest wings I've ever seen. Not normal like Karma's but HUUUGE. I used to stare at them when I was little." Mel couldn't remember if mother had said if Haya had any siblings. She usually just talked about him.
"I agree. The tail would be really handy..Except for it getting stuck in trees," he laughed.

Alyna smiled. "I bet your mom is really pretty. She'd have to be, the way you and Karma turned out!" She grinned. "Huuuuge wings?? Even bigger than Karma's? I have a hard time picturing that, though I believe you." Alyna laughed as she imagined a Soquili with really big wings. She thought that the Soquili would fall over, the wings were too big. She didn't think she had the picture quite right in her head. She didn't think that Mel's dad would be falling over all of the time, that just wasn't practical.
"True!" she said, laughing loudly. "I suppose getting your tail stuck in trees is not a fun experience!"

Mel smiled up at her from his place on the ground. "She is. And yeah his wings are way bigger than Karma's and our sister's. I think it's because mom is normal so the wings came down to a normal size because of her genes." Talking about his family made him recall that day when he, his mother and sister went out for their nature walk. Tuli seemed SO sure that they'd find a frog that dad had been talking about but they turned up frogless. Instead they found birds and bugs as usual.
"So what does Haya look like? I'm curious if he looks like mom or not since I haven't met him yet."

Alyna thought for a moment. "Haya's got this red and gold striped mane, it's really cool. His fur color is gold, with darker gold striped across his back and neck. He's also got the spaded tail, which is the same color as his fur. His eyes are a cool silver, but he always has a warm expression on his face. Well, he did when I met him." Alyna smiled. She liked Haya. She wished she could see him again someday, too.

Mel smiled and nodded. "That's mom alright. She's got red and gold striped hair. I think she's got a little gold on her body but not much, and no black stripe either but the hair and personality sound like mom. I'll have to mention you when I meet him too. Maybe I should mention you to everyone in my family, just in case," he laughed. He still couldn't get over how many family members of his she'd met and probably would never let her live it down.

Alyna laughed with him. She seemed to laugh a lot around this stallion. He was easy-going and friendly, more outspoken than Karma was. Alyna noted the differences between the brothers, although she didn't know if Karma had changed any since he was a foal. Alyna liked Mel's vibrant personality, but she also liked Karma's quiet, thoughtful demeanor. She wondered how two brothers could be so different.
"Maybe!" she said, chuckling.

Mel could see why Karma loosened up around Alyna, she was fun and knew how to have a good laugh. A lot of people could be fun and loose but she made him laugh and he was actually having a good time. "So..this wolf of yours, is she going to sneak up on me and pounce or something? Should I keep a look out and be worried? I'm too young to die." He gave her a slightly horrified look and laughed. "I sure hope she's friendly."

Alyna laughed. "She won't hurt you, although I wouldn't put it past her to try to scare you some." Alyna looked thoughtful for a moment. "Actually, she should be back by now. I wonder if something is keeping her?" Alyna smiled as she searched for Lyka. She saw two furry ears peeking out of the grass behind Mel, sneaking up towards him. Alyna stifled a giggle, knowing what Lyka was about to do.
Lyka had been returning to her "foalie" as she still affectionately called Alyna, when she had seen the big, blue stallion with her. Grinning devilishly, she had decided to have a little fun with him. She crouched down, her belly brushing the ground, and began slinking up behind him. She waited until she was right behind him, and then casually placed a paw on his back hoof, ready to leap out of the way if he tried to kick her.
