Faevan
Faevan slipped quietly into the library through one of the back doors, bypassing the sometimes rather active library and taking a seat in a shadowy corner. It seemed that the building was uncharacteristically empty this evening. From her silent perch, she fixed her eyes on the main part of the floor, waiting for someone to pass her line of sight.

Zanen
Zanen sighed as she walked briskly through the streets, her eyes staring miserably at the ground. She had repeatedly reminded herself not to procrastinate on getting books for her research paper, but it seemed as though she would be forced to do so anyway. After a few fruitless hours of walking to all the libraries within her reach, she had come to the unfortunate realization that at this late hour, all of them had closed theirs doors to any prospective visitors. It wasn’t really the procrastination that bothered the teenager, for she had quite a lot of experience with it in the past. No, she was simply annoyed that she had wasted all that time for nothing.

Now…where was she?

Lost in her thoughts, Zanen had realized that she had simply left her legs to their own accord, and it seemed that they had carried her somewhere quite unfamiliar. Grocery store…library…some apartments…Wait—a library?!

It seemed to be open and hardly daring to believe her luck, the teenager forgot all about being lost, and ran up to the entrance. She softly pushed open the door and entered. The library seemed to be…empty.

“I—hello?” the teenager called out, her voice a soft murmur in the vastness of the library.

Faevan
Faevan sat for a moment, letting the woman wonder, before realizing that indeed, no one was in at the moment. Not in, or being lazy...With a small sigh, she stood up, walking on silent feet toward the girl. It wasn't usually her style to converse with patrons, but she had been away a while, and missed the amusement.

"Can I help you?" She asked, trying her best not to be intimidating.

There was no reply, and Zanen quietly fidgeted as she pondered on whether to leave or just go and search for the books by herself.

A sigh broke through the silence and though it wasn’t particularly loud, the teenager almost jumped in surprise, as she hadn’t really been expecting an answer after the delay.

A woman was walking towards her, and the teenager couldn’t help but blush as she answered in a quiet voice, “Umm, I’m sorry if I disturbed you! I need some books on fairytales for a school essay, so I was wondering if you could help me with that…”

Faevan
Faevan had to bite her tongue to keep from laughing outright. This girl had no clue what she has stumbled upon.

"Fairy tales, you say? What manner of tale are you seeking out, if I might ask?"

She turned her back, waving a hand idly over her shoulder, bidding the girl to follow her. She let her hand graze a book here or there as she led her down the aisles of bookshelves.

"We have the classics, of course. Tales of little princesses and their princes. Or perhaps something a bit...darker? Tales or murders most foul, treason, and betrayal."

Her hand suddenly rested on the binding of a old, well loved book. Fae pulled it off the shelf, blowing the dust off the tome. It could have been a trick of the very low light, but perhaps there were small specks of light dancing on the edge of her breath as well?

"Then, there's this book. Maybe this is what you seek." She handed the book to the girl, and expectant look in her eyes.

Zanen
Zanen’s eyebrows knitted together as she viewed the expression upon the woman’s face, giving the teenager a slightly perplexed appearance. The other asked a question, but it didn’t seem to be a rhetorical, as she gestured at her to follow without waiting for an answer. There was a knowing air around the woman and she seemed to know exactly what she was doing, although the teenager had given her an extremely broad subject. So follow she did, nervously toying with a stray lock of hair the whole way, stopping immediately as the other suddenly pulled an old book off a nearby shelf and offered it to her.

With some hesitation, Zanen reached out a slender hand and accepted the book, her pale fingers curling around its binding.

“Thank you,” the girl replied out of courtesy, offering a soft smile to her companion as her eyes wandered away to inspect what she had been given.

Faevan
As Zanen's fingers touched the worn leather, a shower of soft, barely perceptible lights shimmered and glowed. They multiplied, until the girl seemed to be covered in a sparkling shroud of light. The lights swirled this way and that, seeming to open the book of their own accord. Once the tome lay open int he girls hands, the lights concentrated, seeming to form the shape of a small creature...

...a small boy.

Zanen’s eyes widened as the book seemed to pulsate with a soft unearthly light, which grew brighter and stronger with every passing second, engulfing her in a shower of magical sparks. The teenager couldn’t see anything but dancing lights, but she felt the weight of the book opening by itself. The lights joined together, and suddenly, the weight on her hands grew so much heavier.

A boy. She was holding a boy. HOW WAS THAT POSSIBLE?

“H-h-heavens above! W-wha—How? ” she stuttered uncertainly, her mouth agape in disbelief.

The young boy merely yawned sleepily, surveying the girl that held him with barely concealed interest.

Faevan
Faevan merely smiled her enigmatic smile.

"Check back with the proper shop staff is you have any specific questions about him." Faevan smiled at the boy, giving him a gentle pat on the head before turning and disappearing into the shadows.

Zanen
Zanen was left hanging as the woman seemed to melt into the shadows, a knowing smile still present upon her face.

...Just what did that woman mean by proper shop staff? Who was she? What had just happened? How had the boy taken the place of the book? Was it magic?

As much as the teenager wanted to run after her, demanding the answers to her questions, it was getting late, and she really had to return home and finish all her homework. Zanen made up her mind to come back as soon as she had some time to spare, and that time, she would not be content to leave without answers. As for the boy, well...she couldn't just leave him here.

She gently set the boy on the floor. "Well, um...you'd best come home with me then, I suppose. Will you walk with me?" she inquired softly, still visibly shaken from the experience.

The boy clambered unsteadily to his feet and tripped over his long purple pants. "Coming!" he cried energetically, as he rose to his feet again.

Zanen couldn't help it; she laughed and smiled. It seemed as though she got more than she bargained for...
